Wilder has been incredible this season but his substitutions are increasingly making less and less sense and are coming too late in the day.

Today, I was shocked that he decided to not bring Jags on when Egan got sense off. Bash and Robinson in a flat back four? Why wasn't Mousset brought on when we needed something upfront? The game was gone and yet it took an age before he brought another defensive player on to sure it up.

Really puzzling.

I thought Jags would have come on as soon as the red was shown 🤷‍♂️
Im quite surprised just how poor we’ve been these last two games tactically. Don’t get me wrong, the softest red ever and then Enda having a stroke doesn’t help. But we’ve been 2nd best to two piss poor teams now!

FIVE subs available and he decided to completely waste that option.

No Mousset and no outlet was baffling.

1-0 down with 10 men and 30 minutes to go against probably the worst possession side in the league is NOT game over.

Maybe it's his way of protesting against the use of 5 subs?

In an odd way, it was a more adventurous decision not to bring Jagielka on. Had we done so and kept the back 5, you’d assume it would be a centre forward to be taken off. Current Jagielka offers nothing going forward, whereas it did seem that when we were on the ball we wanted to keep our usual shape with defenders moving forward. Obviously in hindsight that clearly didn’t work. In fact it slightly reminded me of our defensive performance at home to Bristol City last season, where we again switched to a 4 in the 2nd half.

When Madine got the daft red card last season against Brentford he did the opposite. He took Hogan, Baldock and Dowell off for Didsy, Cranie and Sharp.

I think he only took Baldock off due to injury.

With all due respect to Robinson and Bash, I'd not want them as my 2 CBs in a flat back four in the Championship!

Neither would I. Wilder suggested in his post-match that Jagielka went over his ankle yesterday: “he really shouldn’t have been on the bench today, that’s why he wasn’t put on”

That's great news for Man U. Is Ben Heneghan eligible to play?!!

He isn’t, no. Interesting times.

Good job we sent Retsos back.... what a complete shitshow this restart has been.

Wilder spends all of lockdown praising the incredible fitness of the players for them to return injured when it matters.

Has Wilder said that he “sent Retsos back” or simply that he “has gone back”? He said only the other week that we were looking to extend the loans, so the issue seems to be either the parent club not being up for it, or Retsos himself not being up for it.

Looks like a chnage in system then, maybe we come up with a new innovative way of playing. Last time we got drubbed everything changed.

Wilder has said Jags picked up an injury and was why he wasn’t brought on , he’s not likely to be fit for Wednesday evening either,

Why would Retsos want to be on loan at a club who don’t play him? I don’t blame him one bit for going back, a player with his talents need to be playing games.

I'm going back to L1 start but I think you knew that ;)

I did think that was what you meant, but I thought it was worth remembering that every drubbing doesn’t mean ditching a system that’s otherwise shown its worth. I don’t think we’ll change the system, as it’s shown to be fine when the players are performing normally. Today they didn’t, and then that was made worse with the sending off. We might, and probably will, change the players in that system though after today.

It does when you don't have enogh CB's to play that system

If you can point to an example of a game where Wilder due to injuries/suspensions has ditched the system to accommodate the available players, rather than move the players to accommodate the particular system, I’m all ears.

Who's available to play? This isn't shoehorning in Robinson/Cranie we literally don't have cover. Take one out you get away with it, but this is no flat back 3 system as you know.

I’d actually be more concerned by us going with Basham + Robinson/Stevens in a standard middle 2 tbh. Keeping our usual set-up is the lesser of two less-than-ideal approaches.

Robinson playing in the middle of that 3 sends shivers down my spine.

We are going to get wankered aren't we.

Yes.. I think we are too..

Positive thing, we've achieved the target already by stopping up, dont say it too loud but some of us were happy with that..

He must be able to play somewhere for £20 million quid.🤷‍♂️😁

I'm thing CB or target man with Mosse running off him. Midfield in the PL seems too quick for him, especially the way we play.
