I watched the borussia hertha match and didn’t mind the noise. Someone obviously controlling the different sounds even down to boos when ref didn’t give a foul or book a hertha player.

Yep, the TV company were fitting in the whistling when the Ref gave a foul ...... but only for the home team

Sky are getting ready to do the same ........................ 🤔

Is it over the tannoy or is it being played over the live footage? I can't tell.

I also can't tell whether I prefer it. I kind of like being able to hear the shouts and screams of the players and the bench.
I could imagine our Chris's voice being quite prominent, which would be entertaining too. Sure adds a different layer.

I hope they play recordings of canned laughter, like they do in TV sit-coms. That would make it enjoyable if they play the laughter every time Villa concede. 😃

I might send this soundtrack to Sky for that very reason.

I think it’s over the footage rather than over the tannoy. It’s a bit shit for me, I’d rather hear them all going off at one another. I imagine BT are trialling it ahead of the upcoming PL coverage.

It makes no sense to do it at all if it isn't over the PA system for the benefit of the players.

Aren't LaLiga using some of EAs FIFA noises?

I can't remember what version it was, but you used to be able to download a club specific file for FIFA that included your clubs songs etc.
They must have recording of this type of us singing GCB, Barrel of Money, Allez, Allez, Allez etc so this wouldn't be a stretch to incorporate that through the speaker system.

As far as I can tell we don't have any songs on Fifa20. All you hear when you play with United is "Sing your heart out for the lads!" which I have never ever heard us sing in real life. Leeds, Wednesday and Forest all other prem teams have songs specific to them but we don't.

It was an old version, and you had to download load these fan customised ones. I'm talking years ago, it may even have been X360.

It's been a while since FIFA had crowd and commentary downloads (don't know why, it's a good idea) so I imagine if we had a pack it would have been FIFA 07 on the Xbox 360 which was the release for the season we were last in the Prem.

FIFA 20 has done a piss poor job where we're concerned, they haven't even added any additional commentary for us re: promotion or style of play, never mind specific crowd stuff.

I think I prefer it. When you watch it without you get drawn into the fact there’s no crowd and end up thinking about that, whereas with noise you forget about all that and just enjoy the football.
I watched the Bayern game other day and genuinely thought there were a few fans in there, especially with the drummer.

Me? I'll watch it regardless. I'll probably have the kids and Mrs pestering me all night anyway so won't hear owt

In a weird way, this seems actually somehow more acceptable to me than a no-fans and fan noise alternative. I actually joked a month or two ago that the reason all the PL clubs were pushing the FIFA20 tournaments so hard was to warm all the fans up to the idea of watching FIFA stadia being superimposed onto the live feeds for when football returned. I’d no idea at that stage that something like this was in the works.

I'm very much in the "football without fans > no football at all" camp but really, is that the best they can do? It looks shite! Maybe I've overestimated the technological capabilities of broadcasters but that is basically just a worse, digital version of a mural, no?

Unfortunately, this has come too soon for holographic fans to be used.

I don’t know how easy it would be, but given we already have lots of footage of the stand from the master camera angles broadcast this season, doesn’t technology exist to simply sew that view of the stands onto live footage? Perhaps it would require green screens in the stand visible admittedly.

I kind of hope with any of these options there will be the ability to choose which you have, and whether to just have the completely unedited feed, with player profanities as audible as possible.

My one big gripe with the games I've seen without crowds so far is the flat commentary - in Bundesliga games on BT I've seen teams have shots that it's almost like the commentator forgot to say anything about. I really hope Sky are drumming into their commentators to try and act as natural as possible, and not like you're commentating on a behind closed doors friendly. Anything to distract me from the fact that it's a fundamentally weird experience, basically. Did my head in during the first Bundesliga game back how much time was spent discussing how strange it all was - YES, I AM AWARE OF THIS, PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE GAME.

Hopefully having crowd noise - assuming commentators have it in their own feeds - will at least prompt them to raise their voices a bit in moments of drama.

Benfica vs Tondela last week, they did it over the PA and it sounded pretty good considering. Game was utter dogshit though. Worst Benfica side in years, Porto should be further in front than they are

That’s what’s got me in the Bundesliga. There have been a few games where I’ve had it on quietly in the background in the kitchen, haven’t heard anything of note, and when I check the score I’ve missed a goal or two. Low key commentary won’t cut it.

This was back in March in South America, but an example of passionate commentary remaining unchanged despite the lack of crowd.

It is shite. It's like FIFA 98 on N64 graphics.

They absolutely could do better but maybe don't want to pay to roll it out, you need to have a 3D model of the ground and put the fans in it, and a VR controller on the camera to translate the moves to the 3D environment, so it all lines up. Every sports broadcaster does it in our country because they've all got virtual sets which uses the same principle.

I'd rather they just put a tarp over the seats than this rainbow shash.

Been watching Monchengladbach v Wolfsburg and the sound is absolutely fine.

I actually don't get how they do it. They have a chance and the crowd noise ramps up. Wolfsburg just fouled a player and got booked and boos rang around.

Are these sounds inside the ground too?

Certainly makes watching the game on TV much better

They're not in the ground, just for TV and they're controlled with a mixing desk. All loaded in with various sounds for different occasions, boos, hisses, fair play claps, goals for both sides (quieter for the away team), and chants, it is clever.

I hope the Premier League one is as complex and not just FIFA noises.

We've not even got actual blades songs on FIFA 😔
