Went with the Epson TW650 for a balance of value and lumens/contrast. It was a toss up between that and the similarly priced Optoma DLP.
Not had chance to test outside yet, but its fine in a bright room. If a little noisey fan wise depending on your settings.
Its gone up £100 since I got it.
Whats the critical issue, Lumens or contrast? thinking of getting 1 for the Pub at Foxhill, used to have one when we first opened about 10 years ago, it wasn't very good![]()

How much did you get it for? Finger currently hovering over the buy button on amazon..

£399.00 from Richer Sounds, in my experience of Richer, might be worth ringing them and politely asking them if you can have it for the price 'you'd seen and were ready to buy for'. They are usually good customer service wise and i've often had stuff thrown in/reductions just for being polite yet knowingly cheeky.
They also offer a 6 year guarantee at no additional cost.
Still not tried it outside though.
Any particular reason you went for that one over the optoma at the same price?
Other pointer is... The Epson fan is loud on some settings and has no additional Audio out... So depending on source, you'll need to split the input or use Bluetooth if you don't fancy relying on a tinny projector speaker.
Yes, i noticed that just before i was about to hit buy![]()

£30 Firestick with some free apps plugged into back of projector sorts this conundrum![]()
ooh! now that's a very valuable tip. I'll ask my clever son to get me one of these firesticks. You're not the first person to mention it but I haven't a clue what one is.
If it works though it will be a big bonus because it's going to be a bit tight with all of us gathered round my Commodore 64 watching the game.
Many thanks for the tip!![]()

We have got an optima hd144x which was £399 from curry’s but it has gone up now the screen size is quite decent to say we only have about 3m throw to play with. I wouldn’t have bought the pull down screen if I had thought on I would have plotted where the picture was on the wall and then framed it out with some archiv, you can buy allegedly special paint for the wall. Also running it through a Sony atmos amp and mainly using it with the PlayStation (got now tv with the hd upgrade) - just need to sort the wires out

I remember during France 98 there was a pub by Manor House that claimed to have the biggest big screen in London. Me and a couple of mates went in and it was four white bedsheets stapled together and draped from the guttering. The sun shone on it and you couldn’t see owt. My advice to the op would be to make sure you have good top shade.

Done same thing mate, bought a cheap one off eBay, worked well in house at night so was looking forward to setting it up outside the next day, set it up but couldn’t see anything in daylight and I mean not a thing. Did a bit of research and read a minimum of 3000 lumens was needed so I ended up buying a better one from amazon. Result: managed to get a picture in a shaded area of my garden but in strong sunlight even under full shade I have to have the projector close so I get about a 50 inch screen, as the sun starts going down I can pull the projector back to increase screen size, in full darkness it’s pretty impressive how good the picture is and the projection size. Still watchable strong daylight but you really have to create some shade to stand a chance, also I bought a grey screen from eBay that really helps during the day.
It was reduced just before Christmas- I would still pay that price for it as it’s a good piece of kitthat’s the model I’m looking at, but it’s now £480.
Ended up Buying the Optoma Hd28e. WalthamstowBlade has the correct advice. In cloud cover it’s watchable at large sizes, but when the suns out, you have to get pretty close to the wall to get a decent image, and hence quite small.

The part of the garden we're aiming for is shaded from about 4pm.
But it's by the by for tomorrow anyway. The weather in Sheffield is forecast for storms from 3pm onwards and Richer accidentally delivered a 92" screen which, while amazing, was completely bloody ridiculous. If the right size screen turns up and the weather is dry, we might just make it outside on Sunday.
I’ll bet Foxy wanted to keep that![]()
Well I failed to take into account needing to source one that works underwater by the looks of it
