should we take them seriously? and is anyone concerned that except for malta it is 180 mins and no goals.

No and no again.

Come on David you might be a Blade but you are seeing the negative in everything, be it the money situation, loaning of players, friendly results with youngsters and trialists playing.

Is this a picture of you I have found ?

We are not Man U who throw out their youngsters in pre season friendlies and win every one of them.

Come on Mansfield were non league, we've lost tonight to a quality League Two side!

Blackwells quote for tomorrow:
We have played two strong sides who gave us a game thats what i wanted.
Remember we have got a lot of players that havent played together before.
I think were still 3 players short .
I am now looking for quantity not quality because my first try hasnt worked out.

Or will it be the truth:
I am a clueless b*****d and there is no way we are going up next season, we cant afford toilet paper never mind some players and me saying quality over quantity is just another way of saying mccabes told me to do things on the cheap!

Scrap the side we have now winless in two with no goals and take on the Burton squad they will come cheap and their strikers can find the net.
Blackwell can still spout quality over quantity while pleasing his boss by saving McCabe a load of cash.

No and no, they're just glorified fitness sessions at the end of the day.

More of a concern would be the lack of Britton and to a lesser extent Simmo. I seem to remember KB saying Willo was nothing to worry about this time last season.

Winning matches. Friendlies or not builds confidence IMO.............

Tell that to your neighbours at PNE Fleety ;) Still good to see Leeds losing 4-0 to the mighty Bury...

Yep, I've just been hearing how brilliant they are having scored 11 goals in 3 games ! No news on Dickinson at their end either.

Ha Ha not at all i just don't want to get to the game in only 3 weeks time and the side not to have scored or played together. Only got Rotherham and the argies left. oops forgot notts county

Would have loved the reaction if we'd won both games on here. Old Blackie has got it right this time, what a manager, things are looking good, these friendlies are serious run outs and a good barometer, who cares if Britton is another crock signing, the kids are brilliant etc etc.

Yeah it's good to get wins but when you're using close 20 players in a game, it's hardly a true barometer of how things are going. I appreciate that the defence need to get together sooner rather than later but then again, it's a fair bet that at least 2 of the starting defence against Cardiff aren't actually here yet !

Back to the friendlies, I can remember plenty of people on BU slagging the club off for dragging the squad over to China in the summer of 2005 and look what happened, possibly the best start to a season ever and promotion !

No. Haven't attended a pre-season friendly since Notts County in late 70's. There's a reason for that!

No. Our main method of chance creation is lobbing some balls into the box. From Concorde Park to the San Siro this will work a couple of times a game. We'll either score or not, depending on who the chance falls to, so not scoring against non leaguers isn't a worry.

I'd say no and no, too.

Let's face it, get the defeats and blanks out of the way now and it's fine. If we're 2 or 3 league games into the season with two 1-0 defeats then you can be concerned.

Mines a yes on this not necessarily because of the frendlies but more a weakness we had last year that hasnt really been addressed.
Fullbacks that dont get forward very much, a complete lack of pace. The wingers. one has one good game in five , the other cant play at full throttle or his hamstrings twang. Overall not much creation other than the hoof you speak of, and therefore a lack of goal scoring chances.

Get the rust and kinks out preseason that is what it is for .I am sure at this stage last season Blackpool hardly looked like a promotion winning side.

It was interesting to read Speed's comments on the O/S. He sounds critical of the training regime in Malta which appears to have taken its toll of the players. Burton were sharper, he says.
Should we blame the fitness coach, or commercial interests in sending the team out to train and play in that heat?

Not that fussed on either count. I would like to know what anyone who went thought of how individual players played and whether there was any discernable changes in the way that we played.

From the distance of the internet losing by the odd goal to lower-league opposition (rather than winning by the odd-goal to Buxton / Matlock / Doveholes / Norton Woodseats or whoever we've played in similar stages of previous pre-seasons) doesn't feel like much of a drama unless we've huffed and puffed and looked like clueless hoofers. If we've passed it around like masters and lost I could actually feel quite positive.

Any views??
