Wasn't Devlin sent home from the tour immediately after it landed - he never left the airport according to the Wayne Quinn podcast and went back on the same plane he came on due to being drunk?

Blackwell and Warnock turfed him off the plane before it departed. He was shitfaced and being 'a nuisance' (described with raised eyebrows to me). Another rumour was he'd told Warnock to fuck off.

Anyway, he'd mended his ways enough to set up Santos for a late goal v Crewe and score in the Hudds game three days later at BDTBL when I went up in the next season. Him and Warnock seemed pretty affable 'backstage'.

His goal was sublime stuff.

Yeah - no doubt he will. I spoke with 'certain people' (nuff said) in Trinidad about it. They said/he said. All I have is what they said. I'm not judging Devs. I think he was a quality footballer - like I say that finish against Hudds, I was sat in the H Block for that and watched the way he bent it with the outside of his foot and foxed their keeper.

To offer some balance, Devlin, while limited in some ways, was perhaps the most consistently exciting player I've seen for United. Give him the ball out wide, and you know he'll deliver a cross. I sat on the Kop, wider of goal to where I sit now, and I knew that when Devlin disappeared behind that pillar that the ball was about to sail across goal.

Two games stick out. The first is that 4-4 against his old (and future, sadly) club Birmingham, which is mentioned in that dramatic games thread. Devlin played like a crossing machine that day, creating chance after chance.

The other is against Forest. If I remember the sequence of events correctly, Nigel Quashie went straight through one of our full backs. I think it was Kozluk, although it might have been Wayne Quinn. Devlin steamed in and twatted Quashie, Quashie twatted him back. Quashie was sent off but Devlin wasn't. Forest then spent the rest of the game trying to get Devlin back but couldn't get near him. Then, in injury time with the Blades leading, Devlin took a short corner and held the ball up. Presenting a stationary target for once, Forest player-manager David Platt launched himself two-footed into Devlin and nearly kicked him into orbit, and Forest went down to 9 men and the Blades held out.

I have an idea that Platt actually went into the United dressing room to apologise for that after the match although I could be wrong about that.

I remember that 4-4, had a night out in Derby afterwards, no idea why.

I really rated Devlin and had a good chat to him in a lounge at the City ground after forest away...could have been when we had the gold and purple away shirt?

I should add, he doesn’t defend his actions by the way. More his version of what happened when they landed was different.

Loved watching Devlin play. I love watching wingers play anyway but he and Paul Ifill were the best two I’ve seen for us by a distance. Sadly it’s very much a dying art these days, think they’re seen very much as luxury players - although anyone that watched those two knew how hard they worked both ends of the pitch.

Whitehouse got to be the best on the left though in my view. I'd go with Dev over Ifill but I really liked Iffil also. He was crucial in the promotion season. Shame Warnock never played him in the Pl.

Fair play for his honesty, admits it was all his fault. Unfortunately for him it pretty much confirms what we all thought the case was at the time. He can say he was still trying, but having admitted (several times) his head had been turned I’m not really convinced he can really claim to have been giving his all in those last few months.

When I first started watching the Blades properly my Dad always told me Devlin was the only good player we had.

I can't really remember much about him.

He was one of those players you'd see smashing them in on a weekend on Soccer Satdi and think 'why don't we fucking sign him'? Ifill was the same and a few others like Ashley Ward, Carl Asaba, Iffy Onoura and Paul Shaw. Then, as soon as they pull on the sacred stripes, they turn shit, or at least, a lot less than what you'd expected.

Kept hoping once we'd sign someone like Ian Stonebridge from Plymouth, but summat told me that as soon as he donned the shirt, he'd have gone to piss.

I listen to every episode of Bladespod and 4 Blades in a Pub, and enjoy every one (the Wayne Quinn one was excellent), but I remain of the view that, unless it’s an interview, the quality of a football podcast usually drops the longer it goes past an hour.

And if a podcast talking about a single game lasts longer than the game itself, that’s usually a sign of unnecessary waffle.

I do a lot of solo walking every day and I listen to podcasts then.

You might surprise yourself. Our podcast @tufty_club are never more than an hour and the quality of ours are consistently low well before we get to the hour point!

Seriously I love the Blades Pod and 4 Blades in a pub pods. I usually listen in chunks when I am commuting/walking/running. They are miles better and more professional than our which are more of a laugh. We just decided when we started to record our chats that we'd try really hard to keep under an hour...most are 20 mins (match reviews etc). We struggle to even find time to meet/record due to various commitments so am impressed with the other two pods significant efforts. Think it's great that Blades can get together and chat and produce stuff for other fans to listen to.

We are hoping to chat to Nick Montgomery and Rob Kozluk (one hour might be a rush with these tho so may give up our rule a bit!) soon tho as we recently did a pod about the Warnock documentary....should be out by the end of the week and in a few weeks are doing a kit podcast which discusses all the United kits over the years with another Devlin....John Devlin who is the guru on football kits (wrote several books on the subject). He has agreed to come on with us. Ill even put the kits/powerpoint we discuss on here with the pod as an audio description of something visual might not totally work!
