The Red Arrows flew over my flat on Friday. I heard the noise and thought, "That sounds like The Red Arrows," but by the time I'd staggered to the window it was too late. What a swizz! You'd think they'd go at a nice sedate pace so those of us having a well-earned lie-in would have a chance to see them. Or they could do what the Spelthorne Police Helicopter does and circle above my street all fucking day.

Indeed. Other source here suggests naming rights one of three reasons why most clubs against the neutral stadia suggestion.

But it soon emerged that several other clubs, ones not threatened by relegation, were also unhappy with the neutral stadiums idea. Six soon became eight and then last week it seemed that at least half of the 20 wanted to play their remaining matches where the fixture computer intended.

By Monday’s meeting, that number was up to 14, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. There was no need for a vote on the matter, the prevailing mood was clear.

The reasons for this shift in the polls are threefold: 1) with each place in the final table worth an extra £2.5 million in prize money, every club is fighting for something and home advantage, even without a crowd, could help; 2) there would be commercial impacts to playing at neutral stadiums, particularly for those clubs with naming-rights deals; and 3) the leagues in Germany, Spain and elsewhere are planning to resume over the next few weeks, too, and they are not insisting on neutral venues.

I think the fact that elsewhere in Europe clubs are playing at their allotted ground might sway the neutral ground arguement away again like if they can do it why cant the PL?

Another thing that bothers me after reading the BBC News site. Players like Sterling, Rose and Aguero speak out there concerns over playing a game yet on the flip side at least 7 PL players have broken lockdown rules and are looking at or have been given fines. So on that basis you would tend to think players are not bothered and will play regardless.

I wouldn't worry to much about the photo I would have thought the RAF would be more worried about the missing plane.

My issue with this is.. it’s alright isolating our precious footballers.. whose going to cook their food, make their beds, clean their toilets etc? Are we going to isolate all the hotel staff?

Probably similar people who do that stuff for them otherwise. I've not seen any pics of Aguro etc queing outside Lidl.

No club wants to play at neutral venues, that’s been the case since day one. If it wasn’t for the government, it wouldn’t even have been suggested.

It was suggested by government safety advisers I believe, but I could be wrong.

No club is now backtracking on neutral venues. The Premier League and most clubs just want to finish the season by any means necessary. How much each club is willing to compromise depends on their individual motives.

it appears as though they are backing games at home grounds now if clubs cover the costs.

I can see players using face coverings for the games, be interesting to see if a few of the “higher end” players refuse to play but the games go ahead anyway, because by the sounds of it out lot can’t wait to get back playing regardless.

Apologies if this is already posted (not read the thread) but was told yesterday that the restart plan is to play games from 12 June (1 game on a Friday, 4 sat, 4 sun, 1 Monday) with final fixtures 1/2 August. Some midweek games thrown in to get it all done. Cup quarters and semis played during this period too, with cup final August 8th

I find it interesting that Troy Townsend specifically mentions calling the season “null-and-void”

If his only concern is his son’s safety, why does he have to even get involved in that argument?

I notice that Andros was born in Leytonstone. I wonder if Troy is a West Ham fan?

They aren't living pay packet to pay packet, but some club employees will be. Their wages depend on the players completing the matches.

Unless football clubs are going to be allowed to use the government furlough scheme without a national outcry.

Footballers are not living from pay packet to pay packet. They are going to be able to resist risks far longer than most.

There are over 30m people in the UK aged under 45. To date 384 people in that age group have died from this thing. There is little to no danger to a professional footballer and their young families.

The only players who have legitimate concerns are those who live with and care for a seriously ill, or elderly family member. 'Because I'm black' isn't a legitimate concern.

I can see why Troy has been wheeled out. He chairs Kick it out....and there's evidence to suggest CV-19 is racist in that it effects the BAME population greater.

Might be fake news the free games are the ones BT and Sky have not paid for so they shouldnt really have any say. They were looking at the free ones being shown on the clubs video channel, so you log onto the club website and watch it that way. What was previously known as iFollow but is now some other company. Free to register an account. So mainly the 3pm kick off ones. UEFA in March this year gave the go ahead for 3pm matches to be screened on TV. This will be interesting in the next round of TV contracts as 3pm UK matches will be thrown into the mix for the first time ever.
