Wednesday faced the possibility of going down IF they lost at home to Forest AND Luton won at Derby. At half-time at Leicester it was announced that Wednesday were 1-0 down at home to Forest. There were no mobile phones in those days. At full-time we were celebrating our promotion but then all went quiet as the announcer went through the division one scores. He announced "Derby 2 Luton 3" to a large cheer, continued going through the results in alphabetical order until he got to "Sheffield Wednesday 0...". We didn't hear Forest's score (3),as there was absolute pandemonium. After playing second diddle in Sheffield since the Boxing Day Massacre, we were top dogs again. United fans were wearing T-shirts saying "The Blades are going up" on the front and "Wednesday here we come" on the back. One bloke with me has covered the latter up with 'CANCELLED'. In his autobiography, Dave Bassett appeared annoyed that a section of our fans had appeared pleased with Wednesday's relegation. The section being around 95% if I recall correctly.
We had tickets in the away end above our supporters but it was all BladesWere there any Leicester fans. Never noticed them. Fun day.
Watch the last 10 minutes of the video I posted further back, plenty of pigs crying at the endI’ve heard pigs say that just before the final whistle there were rumours that Derby had equalised and they were safe. I’ve also been told that when they realised it was bollocks and they were down, quite a lot started ruaring.
I would but I just get ‘video unavailable’. A GIF of crying pigs would be great. Every time one posts on here just reply with it.Watch the last 10 minutes of the video I posted further back, plenty of pigs crying at the end![]()

Bert and Co were located up in the stand behind the goal where the Leicester supporters were suppose to be, except that half of Sheffield was also up there. We had tickets in the away end above our supporters but it was all Blades
Marc North had a remarkable day didn't he?There's so much to unpick in that video.
- Whatever the hell went on for Deane's goal
- Marc North scoring between two spells in net
- Paul Wood's apparently painted-on hair
- Wilder helping make the third goal
- The infamous zone man discussion
- The throughball header for the fifth goal
- The generally atrocious defending throughout
Marc North had a remarkable day didn't he?
He died in 1991 of lung cancer, aged 35.
Tragedy.
Snap.Yes, I looked him up after watching the video and I couldn't believe that someone who played in that match had been dead for 19 years. Very sad indeed.
