Evening all,

After the slightly gloomy 2006/07 retrospective, Roygbiv and I decided to yak about the 4-2 win at Hillsborough in 2017 instead, which I presume will make for slightly easier listening... we talk about the legacy of Leon, the brilliance of Brooks, Mark Duffy writing his name into history, bouncing, the build-up, the fallout, our favourite little details, and this match as a sliding doors moment for both Sheffield clubs.

So glad I listened to this - it brought back so many unbelievable emotions of ecstasy, dejection and ecstasy again to sheer relief at the end. Prompted me to watch again and just noticed the camera at the beginning showing pictures of Waddle and Sheridan who were nodding along to the pigs Hi Ho song.

Really enjoyed this – captures all of the emotional beats throughout the game perfectly. Funnily enough one of the main moments I can remember vividly is leaping up to stand in front of the tv as Clarke wriggled clear for the 4th. That was definitely the first moment on the day that I could start to relax a bit.

Big fan of the pod - you guys always sum things up really well and make me genuinely chuckle. Always helped a blade over in the north west feel connected to a great time for United. Right now these recaps are a really uplifting distraction in some surreal times - keep up the good work!

What I did notice watching the rerun stream a few days ago was the pre kick-off smug look on all the pig fans faces. None of the usual derby day nerves for this lot, they were really convinced they were gonna batter us.

As you alluded to, I didn't remember the bouncing at the time at all, but then I - like the rest of us - were in that minute of utter despair with thoughts of impending doom. After that, pure joy as well as a bollocking from the wife for scaring the kids with my raucous celebration!

Other bits of note / what I remember:

• I had to switch the pre-game analysis of Andy Hinchcliffe off as it was all about how fantastic Wednesday were and how we'd struggle to cope, I switched back on bang on 1.15pm so missed the Coutts death stare.
• I only recently saw a clip of the Duffy goal from their South Stand touchline which shows Carloss chucking his water bottle down in disgust when the 3rd went in. Will have to try and find it.
• Footage of United running the Piggy "gauntlet" from the coach to the players entrance before the game, noticeable that they completely ignored Brooks, must have thought we'd brought a ball boy!

The biggest thing that I misremembered about this match was the length of time between Joao's goal and Duffy's goal.

When Wednesday equalised I was devastated and laid down in the corner of the room with my head in my hands.

Not sure why but at the time it seemed like there was at least a good 5 minutes before Duffy put us 2-3 up.

It was only after that I realised Duffy had scored pretty much straight from the kick off.

At QPR they started in the same lineup, but it was one of the few games Brooks started in Duffy’s role behind the front two – Donaldson partnered Clarke. One of Brooks’s poorest games for us. While we saw some brilliant moments, particularly in this game, we never fully nailed his position in our system. You’d think his attributes would have made him ideal to really challenge Duffy, but he didn’t look comfortable in that position. His best games were generally playing off a striker, where we had a slightly more compact midfield and more of the onus was less on possession based play and more using space on a break. In an odd way he’d have probably been much better suited to our current system playing off McBurnie than the system we played the two previous seasons.

That's a good shout. However for context, you'll have to include the weekend before and the disappointment of the Millwall game coupled with Leeds strolling against the pigs straight after. From one of the lowest lows to the highest of highs in a week.
