'Greatest' own goal you have seen (for or against us)

Has to be Brian Gayle against Luton for me, due to the coming timing. The Blades were coasting to a big away victory when my mate exclaimed "everyone's playing well. Even Gayle's not fucked up", just seconds before he bulleted an unstoppable header into our net.
Didn't he repeat that a few games later, again against Luton? Or is my memory fading?

Cliff Calvert against Luton in March 1978? We were winning 4-0 and near the end Cliff Calvert chased after a Luton player attacking on the right at the Lane end and he managed to nick the ball off the Luton attacker but the ball flew over Jim Brown who spun his head like Regan in the Exorcist.
That was the match Simon Stainrod , having scored two already , rolled the ball towards an empty net and ran away arms aloft to celebrate his hat trick. He then realised the ball had stuck on the line on the waterlogged pitch , and must have felt a bit of a nob as he could have walked it in.

At the end of the following season, when we were relegated and he had been transferred to Oldham , I saw him at our cricket club ( he was a fellow player) and he winked at me and said sarcastically ' shame about dem Blades mate'.

Think I blanked him for a bit after that comment.

I really dont know if it was Mel's last goal and I'm a bit gutted that we didnt stop the pigs winning the title. Strange how I have always thought that, must be wishful thinking.
I always look at it on the basis that had they beaten us twice that season then they would have been champions, or at least really fuckin close which is a sobering thought. Fortunately it’s been downhill ever since for the scum since then.

Remember Andy Barnsley doing a bullet header from about 8 yards into the top corner in front of the kop in mid 80's. Against Bradford (??)
I was at the game too absolute bullet header

There was one away at Huddersfield in around 96/97 that was scored for us, a half volley from about 25 yards out. I can't remember the player though, nor can I find a video.

What about Derby's goal for us in our 3-1 win recently ?

I saw most of those mentioned but top of the shop has to be Des Walker's because of who he was and the significance of the win even though we screwed up the final.

Poor Des, not only an ex pig but also a product of the Forest youth team.

A year or so after we played Forest again and he was on the front row of the South Stand along with other non playing members of the Forest squad, just behind their dug out

I was sat directly behind them and managed to catch his eye . Stoked by a few pre match shandies I said to him ' Thanks for the goal Des '.

He seemed quite edgy , probably expecting comments, and spat back ' yeah but it did you no good though, you got hammered in the final etc etc ...'

I managed to keep calm and just kept saying ' World class finish' ' clinical' ' no keeper in the world would've saved it ' 'top corner' 'unsaveable' on repeat , which made him repeat his earlier comments just louder and more riled. Highly enjoyable.

A wag a few rows behind me ' Tell us about your time in Italy Desmond' which made all around collapse in stitches , best of all including his team mates.
