I wonder how it will work with broadcasting deals. Can the BBC afford approx £400m for the rest of the season? I doubt it. Sky and BT won’t be paying it if they don’t broadcast it. Maybe adverts on the BBC when games are on but that seems unlikely.
 
In Germany they are saying players must wear face masks. I really don't see it restarting, best we can hope for is the sporting merit as UEFA talk about which get us into Europa league for the next season (whenever that will be).
 
Show em all on all channels at the same time, best presentation wins ... as it should be

Dutch football isn't the PL. It will be points average across the leagues that is the final outcome. It will be brave decision to deny Liverpool the title. As for Norwich fuck em.

BBC will probably get one match a week, while the other matches will be on Sky/BT.

Every Premier League match will probably be live via the red button.

Isn’t the “suggestion” that all games should be on free to air tv? Unless you mean BBC red button, if so I can’t see sky and BT agreeing to that.

I think the broadcasters would go for that but I think the Government want it free to air to stop people going around other peoples houses to watch football if they don’t have sky/bt.
 
Can see been having the odd live games and extended MOTD on at 8pm a bit like sky's game of the day and MOTD sat sun Tuesdays and Wednesdays

With itv or ch 4 getting fa cup games

I get that point, but at the moment Sky Sports have paused subscription fees. No one will want to start paying subscriptions again if live sport is free to watch on the BBC.

Football clubs need the money and I can’t see Sky or BT paying the full amount to clubs if they can’t generate subscription income.

What about the Sky Sports subscription which I'm guessing most people have currently suspended, it will be costing them millions.
Sky/BT would want millions back from the Premiership clubs to cover their lost revenue.
The only way I can see it working with the TV companies is Sky/BT & Amazon(if they have any games left) choose their games as before to show live.
All the games are then broadcast live but only to season ticket holders of each club that's playing through their relevant clubs channel (Which would also help the problem of refunds on season tickets)
The clubs could offer a pay per game charge to supporters who don't have season tickets to cover the pay on the day fans. Sky/BT could also offer the same.
Match of the Day would broadcast as normal on the night of the games.
Sounds complicated and not sure on the logistics of it all but it's the only way I can see that keeps the fans of clubs relatively happy while at the same time protecting the income of the clubs & TV companies.
 
If sky are pressured into airing the games for free then they will find a way to.do it .I get the impression that long term sky don't want to get into a legal battle with the clubs as although there would be a short term hit on the clubs ,long term the premier league is looking at a Netflix trpe tb deal with their own streaming service which would earn them more money in one season than the whole of the current deal
Sky can't afford to pay more than they currently are and let's face it without football who would subscribe to sky at all ?

Agree with you mate, my missus is fed up of hearing me say this.
 
It needs to be completed for the players and the fans. To void it off in my eyes isn’t an option, itd be so demoralising. It’s like throwing in the towel. Fair enough if it has to be behind closed doors, obviously I’d rather be there - of course !
The only people who won’t want it finished is probably Watford and West Ham been on 27 points.
 
For a country that it still suffering from 800 a day deaths, which cannot provide the required level of PPE equipment for front line staff and cannot undertake the desired level of testing for the same Important people, which for them is a life & death situation, to even consider restarting the football season is immoral.

The logistical and financial effort needed to complete the season would be in stark contrast to the response to the pandemic so far.

That’s before we even start on the potential health risks to the players.

You’re right someone is not going to get what they want and seen as sky/BT will be paying out a lot of money it will probably be the Govt who don’t get what they want.
 
Sky won't be a deal-breaker and they won't lose out. They will just insist on having extra games tagged onto the end of their agreement.

Having said that, I'd guess there's approximately zero chance that the season isn't abandoned.

I agree as much as it pains me as I am missing Football so much.


The June start date is fantasy stuff really so all the discussion about who will show it is superfluous. I know I have said this before and of course been accused of being negative but it's realism. When I see all the tabloid stories and daft ways they are going to get games going I am surprised people would read it and think it is possible that we will see games in 4-5 weeks time?

Deaths back up to 800+...still nowhere near the set 100,000 tests per day and no real concrete plan of a track and trace system. Can't provide tests/PPE in large enough numbers to those that need them.

The football authorities said they would not consider starting until it was safe to do so (they mentioned the 5 things the govt needed to hit)

We are a lot longer than 4 weeks away from that. 4 months might be a more sensible discussion in terms of Sport coming back.

Germany were hoping to start mid May but are now running into major issues and the govt have not approved the league restarting. They are a long way ahead of us too.

It would take nearly 300 people to get a game on per match so you are talking 6,000 people per round of league matches required just to get football back on behind closed doors. You'd need lots of police too as people will congregate too. If the govt can't provide enough in the way of testing, PPE to hospitals/care homes then how are they going to find all this kit for the 6,000 above and frankly why should they for something non essential.

Still not seen an answer either for it one person catches it...then what....the whole thing is postponed again?

I think it would be quite irresponsible to endanger people's lifes too and as others have said quite immoral. Would people rather things we have (testing/PPE) are used in care homes and for essential workers or to get some football matches on? It irks me a bit that people are actually pushing so hard for it when surely it boils down to that simple question doesn't it? I know this is a football forum and we'd all love it back but we have to be realistic. Football/Sport is right at the bottom of priorities for he country and world right now.

As I have said before I do not think we will be seeing Football (even behind closed doors for a long time). Eventually the Premier League and EFL will just can the season I predict. I don't think they should and would rather finish this season even if its 6 months or longer down the line but when we get to June, then July and then August and nothing restarts all the other leagues will have made decisions and the UK will follow suit. The only question is if they finish it as it is with places based on points per game for any games in hand or just scrap it completely. I worry for us it will be the latter.
 



I can’t see it restating until a vaccine or some sort of effective treatment is available, they may have a go at behind closed doors games but that will unravel within the the first round of games when someone from one of the two sides tests positive and both of those clubs have to go in to self isolation for two weeks. Unworkable.
