Dee Boyle of the Longpigs/Cabaret Voltaire was a blade (he died a couple of years ago). He was always in the Rutland having a pre-match pint in the mid 90s.
Fondly remember Cabaret Voltaire from my Limit days.

Got into them again a couple of years ago - their music has stood the test of time very well.

Sad to hear that Dee Boyle has passed and slightly ashamed that I have only just learnt this.

It's not a 100% Blade but has been quoted as saying he is 51% us 49% them. He did the bow thing to Currie when he was a guest at the lane.

I saw a documentary about Sheffield a few years ago. Palin was talking about the 1966 FA Cup Final and waa referring to Wednesday as 'we' throughout. However he then endee the segment by saying 'And I'm a Sheffield United fan, and I was upset!'.

So while he clearly has a fondness for Wednesday, he's more of a United fan.

Anna Walker
Chloe Newsome
Asha Evans
Alex Hammond
Charlie Webster
Kate Burlaga

I don't know who some of those are, but found this list of celebrity female fans of football teams and those came up.

Just googled Asha Evans to discover out she's one of these OnlyFans girls who gets their kit off for cash and posts porn of herself on Twitter.

On my work laptop.

Cheers 👍

His dad was David Mercer who played for us in the 1925 FA Cup final.

At Selhurst Park before the kick off (we lost 5-1), my dad spotted Tony sitting a few rows in front of us , pointed him out to me and asked me to get his autograph. I went over to him and he cheerfully signed my programme despite that I didnt know who he was. On coming back to my dad, I asked "Who's he?". "Tony Mercer from the Black and White Minstrel Show" was the reply. No surprise I didnt recognise Tony!
I didn't know David was his father, nice to know. As I have said before, David Mercer was one of my maternal grandfather's favourites and often mentioned him when he reminisced. He knew off Tony and like myself saw him at the Lane but as far as I recall never mentioned the connection. Often wondered why Tony supported United apart from the fact he was born in Sheffield. Thanks SB another piece in the jigsaw.

'Sit on the fence' merchant is Palin, went to Birkdale school, what can you expect. Bet he didn't play football, if he did and played for the school I'II have kicked him.

He has come out more recently. He was on the radio just before lockdown saying that because he went to public school he tended to support anything from Sheffield as it reminded him of home but the Blades have always been his club. I don’t think it’s that unusual, given his age; there were still Blades that would go to the bucket when we were playing away when he grew up.

Sex Pistols producer Chris Spedding is apparently a Blade.
Steve Heighway, ex-Liverpool, is definitely a Blade.
Chris Spedding is from the area so could well be. His dad lived in Calver for many years. I didn’t know he produced the Pistols though. He’s more famous for being a Womble.

He is on record as saying he spent his youth playing football on Hagg Lane. There was some footy posts on there when I grew up so it seems he is a footy fan. I doubt he had a choice as to his schooling but I'm sure the bruises will have faded by now had you played against him. In his spitting Yarns the team he supports (Barnstoneworth) are wearing red and white stripes so he pinned his colours to the mast there. I just think with him being very middle class he doesn't get involved in the rivalry that I can't avoid as I detest them.

He swings both ways as it were. His diaries have several Wednesday references, not many blades. Around the world in 80 days is on BBC IPlayer now, watched episode 1 the other day and at 1 bit he picks up a trophy and shouts Sheffield Wednesday - no blade would ever do that. But in the same episode he gets a call to say United beat Newcastle which would have been the 3-0 first leg win in the League Cup in 1988

Well quite. The bit I'm referring to is the only bit I know where he confronts it head on - i.e. talking about Wednesday but finishing up by saying he's a United fan, but obviously it's all over the place.
