Adolf Hitler - Famous German
Charlie Chaplin - Famous Non-German

Both were born in 1889 and so always had an affinity with the club. If you look carefully at Chaplins silent movies, you can quite clearly see him mouthing 'Fuck W*******y' at the camera on a number of occasions.

Hitler on the other hand, played a big part in the signing of Bill Dearden from Chester. Adolf, following his escape from Berlin and his time in exile in Argentina, spent time in the Blades scouting network and was always a fan of Billys robust style. Not a lot of people know that 😷😷😷

He was also "Charles Paris" in local band, Charles Paris and the Push, who ended up just being, "Push", had one single out at least, The Cambridge Stomp, saw them live at Students Union.

I have that single too! Can't be many that do.
Saw them at the Limit.

Without looking, did he just pick our name out of the hat on Soccer AM?
No, i asked him at Tramlines a few years ago if he was a Blade to which he replied 'Yeah Boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'

That's good enough for me.

Antony Genn ,formerly of Elastica ,Pulp and the Hours ,wrote loads of stuff for Robbie Williams and wrote quite a bit with Joe strummer. Also produces the music for Peaky Blinders and a good mate.

If he's got any copies of this in his loft let me know.

Okay, probably stretching the 'Celebrity' tag a bit far, but two people I'm happy are Blades:

Luke Unbomber, DJ and founder of influential Manchester night Electric Chair. See this for a nice Blades ref: https://www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2008/jan/26/post

Ben Rhymer, character, ex-vinyl slinger at The Store on Div Street (happy days!) and was in the BEST Sheffield band bar none, The Fat Truckers:

Mark Labatt off The Chase.

30 years ago PM Dawn had a top 5 hit with Set Adrift On Memory Bliss (a bit of a rip off of Spandau Ballets True.
I don’t know where I heard it but I recall Simon Mayo mentioning something on Radio 1,but the lead singer Attrell Cordes (now deceased ) was a Blade even though he was American .

Nice one SB, always gets missed in this context. I can confirm he was an attendee on occasions in the late Fifties. I, on the terrace witnessed his presence in the directors box 'mi lud'.
Another one from that era and before, Sheffield born, Ben Warriss, comedy partner and cousin to Jimmy Jewel. Also often in John St. Stand directors box.

What about Peter Barlow of Weatherfield, thought he was a Blade?

I’d automatically assumed, that’s how he ended up being an alcoholic? 😉

He was meant to be in the fucking navy too, yet I detect not one scintilla of 'navalese' in his vernacular. By nature, we swear like fuck and have terminology in our speech which is alien to others. It's called 'Jackspeak'. There's even a book on it.

And when he lived above the shop in that flat, he had a picture on his bookshelf which had him in some sort of uniform with a United States Naval Officer's cap badly photoshopped on him. I emailed Grandad-TV and it disappeared.

pommpey

His dad was David Mercer who played for us in the 1925 FA Cup final.

At Selhurst Park before the kick off (we lost 5-1), my dad spotted Tony sitting a few rows in front of us , pointed him out to me and asked me to get his autograph. I went over to him and he cheerfully signed my programme despite that I didnt know who he was. On coming back to my dad, I asked "Who's he?". "Tony Mercer from the Black and White Minstrel Show" was the reply. No surprise I didnt recognise Tony!

I swear like fuck and the closest I've been to the Navy is my old school jumper.

Luke’s instagram is genius.

We are Irvine Welsh’s English team - story was a flat mate was a pig and did his head in so he adopted us 🤣

I helped run the book launch for Filth in 1998 at the Showroom. He organised it to be on the same day as a midweek game. And he was sporting two pin badges: Hibs and Blades :)

Dee Boyle of the Longpigs/Cabaret Voltaire was a blade (he died a couple of years ago). He was always in the Rutland having a pre-match pint in the mid 90s.
