Probably because there won't be one for a very long time.
 
Our Derby is with the west Sheffield team who play at Old Trafford isn't it, is there another?
 
I think the problem is we spend too much time in separate (to each other), usually lower divisions. There simply hasn’t been enough top flight (or any division) derbies in the last 50 plus years.

Not to mention our capacity’s are too small compared to others. 30-40000 doesn’t get the juices going for outsiders as a mega occasion like it does for us.

Around the country and further afield it’s not given a second thought. Other derbies are far higher profile because they play each other year in, year out in the top flight of whichever country.
They‘re televised and beamed around the world and have been for decades.

For pure passion and hatred I reckon the Sheffield derby easily ranks in the top 2 or 3 in this country, but for the reasons stated doesn’t register outside of Sheffield.

When Bert originally read it, there was no problem but as soon as it transferred to android it was ruined.
 
Too often the rivalry between two clubs is judged on how much fan violence and hooligan action this is / has been between the two clubs.
 
Guy I know who supports Gas says that Sheffield Derby's are tame in passion and hatred compared to Bristol. Wonder how many derbies the prat who's written it has been to.
 
The 5th Wentworth v Chapeltown cubs from the early seventies is bigger than some of those “derbies”.......

I worked with a Bristol City season ticket holder......he was in his 50’s and had lived in Sheffield for 15 years.
He always used to tell me the Bristol Derby is big but it doesn’t compare to Sheffield.

He said in Bristol rugby is traditionally a bigger sport than football.
He said football isn’t as important down in Bristol compared to Sheffield......he used to mock us saying we take football too seriously up here.
 
Depends how you define “derby”, I guess, but Chesterfield vs Mansfield and Blackburn vs Burnley have been pretty tasty in the past.
 
Everyone who is a football fan thinks their clubs derby is the biggest, whatever ‘biggest’ means most pointless word in football but anyway.

Fact is it’s clearly a list devised by some wanky football hipster, who’s writing it sat in Nice’s third kit from 2006 because he likes the sponsor.

Whatever division the Sheffield derby is in its one of the most fierce games of the season. However from a neutral point of view, our Yorkshire derby against Leeds at the end of last season was by far the most interesting to watch because of what it meant in the context of the season. I also felt that game was as fierce as either game against Wednesday last season.
 
Depends who you support doesn’t it the Sheffield derby will be number one to most if not all fans of united and Wednesday the same as supporters of for example the 2 Bristol teams if it doesn’t matter to you then you don’t get the full feeling of a derby Celtic vs rangers is tasty but I can watch it with no feelings
 
i saw this earlier. four four two used to be an respectable magazine & how they can rank a plastic MLS rivalry above steel city derby is mad. obviously the football brains have moved elsewhere
 
If you look at all the proper same city derbies, I would say the Sheffield derby has to be the closest down the years. With no Sheffield team being truly dominant for a sustained period of time and none with vastly bigger crowds than the other and neither have bulging trophy cabinets. I work up and down the country and once I’ve made it known which team I support, it’s usually followed by the same question..........Who’s the bigger club in Sheffield?
Well, if I was a piggie big bollocks my instant answer would be “Wednesday of course!!!“ Being a Blade I usually give em a wry smile and say “good question.”
 
I know I'm biased but there are two things that make the Sheffield derby better than most other derbies in my opinion.

1. It doesn't take place that often which makes it feel like a bigger occasion when we play each other.

We've only played each other 131 times since we were formed 131 years ago. So that's a nice average of exactly one meeting per season. Not much at all.

The Manchester derby and the Merseyside derby seem to take place three or four times every season. It has become tedious.

Celtic and Rangers have played each other 420! times in their history for Christ's sake. Even the people up in Scotland must be sick of it.

2. The two clubs are pretty evenly matched with total meetings roughly split equally between United wins, Wednesday wins and draws. This makes it a lot more interesting because you never know who is going to win. Neither club has ever had a sustained period of dominance over the other club.

A lot of derbies have always been pretty one sided which makes it boring. Again, the Manchester and Merseyside derbies have always been dominated by Man Utd and Liverpool. Same thing with Arsenal in North London.
 



1. How the fuck can a “derby” between 2 American soccer teams founded less than 15 years ago that are 173 miles apart be bigger than a Sheffield derby?
2. Liverpool v Man Utd isn’t a derby. It’s a rivalry.
3 Southampton v Portsmouth at number 14 above Arsenal v Spurs and Newcastle v Sunderland with no Liverpool or Manchester Derby in sight?
Is the writer on drugs or just knows fuck all about football?
