I've been off for a week and come back and re-read this. I'm even more at a loss now than I was when I started.

Can anyone answer the following questions without compromising themselves, their sources or the club:
- Is it likely to happen?
- Will I know about it when it does happen?
- Am I likely to be surprised, impressed, excited or irritated when I find out about it?
- Will the news make me think I was dumb not to have worked it out from the cryptic clues, make me extremely irritated about the cryptic clues or think this thread was actually a worthwhile exercise that made us all think more deeply about the club we support?

Every year I say I won't bother with looking at pre-season stuff - but every year I get taken in by every rumour going and by the time the season starts I feel like I've been through the emotional ringer.

I guess I have it coming though - having sat about with some mates to plan and start off a rumour about Jan Molby joining us when we got promoted under Basset just to upset the Wednesday fans, and it ending up being officially denied in the press by both Liverpool and United. This was inspired by somebody else I know who started off a rumour of a player signing in the mid 70s - only for it to happen 3 months later! Mind you, once Harry Haslam was involved anything could happen. Pedro Verde anyone?

Yes absolutely 100%

- Will I know about it when it does happen?
Yes, the club will make a big announcement

- Am I likely to be surprised, impressed, excited or irritated when I find out about it?
I would expect you to be surprised, impressed, excited and only irritated if you thought we were signing Messi

- Will the news make me think I was dumb not to have worked it out from the cryptic clues, make me extremely irritated about the cryptic clues or think this thread was actually a worthwhile exercise that made us all think more deeply about the club we support?
when you look back at the thread you will see it is there in plain text, you just need to know which bits :)
 
What kind of time scale are we looking at for this suprising, exciting and impressive announcement?

The details have changed slightly from the initial news Foxy heard but the club will let people know.

And really, some people are going to be disappointed reading this through!

Not the way Bob is ramping it up Linz, quote, "suprising, exciting and impressive announcement" sounds like something significant to me!

It really depends on your general outlook. Remember I've been classed as a clapper so it doesn't take too much to impress me. :)

To just to kill one rumour deal it isn't linked to investment.

Come on United, get off your arse and announce it, I can't see any reason why not.
 
OK I'll admit it, I read some more posts on this and cant leave it alone. I'm too curious now. From what we've been told we have established;

Its not about new signings

Its not about investment

Its not about coaches

It is exciting but also disappointing :confused:

It is 100% likely to happen

It is in plain text but not a single person other than Bob, Foxy and Linz (unless someone else is in the loop) can work out what it is!

I think someone is having a good old giggle here :D

Remember how everyone was caught out with the april fools thing (which was brilliant I might add)? I know football fans arent known for having particularly large IQ's but if it was that obvious someone would have worked it out by now and spilled.

I presume that there is a friendly with Estudiantes in there somewhere...Maybe with a 30 years since Sabella left us anniversary twist...

Alternatively perhaps its a link up with their Academy or something similar to the proposed Sau Paulo link up

Think a link-up with a club is more than likely the only thing left!
 
Another link-up is just what we need, after-all the 3 we already involved in have been a resounding success and have produced plenty of talent for their "parent/sister" club. I for one would not be impressed if it was just another tie-in.....

If it is a club/academy link up then I too will be shrugging my shoulders to a large extent. We've been there, done it and seen it fail.
 
I've just read the thread and I think the news is a friendly against Estudiantes De La Plata. They play in red and white, their manager is Alex Sabella and one of their players is Juan Sebastian Veron (Verde's nephew?).
(i.e. Incoming, two Argies and a friendly). The date of the friendly is the 31st July, based on the pre-season thread.

Ah here was me thinking they were going to announce that they were getting rid of the stupid posts in the kop. :)

Gladly I've moved to a better view for next season.
