the £ will rocket? Not before we have 6 months of recession.

and there will still be a lot of people who make vast sums of money out of it. A family friend tells me that the paper masks they are buying (the NHS) are £47 each.

And the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer and nothing changes.

8lade confirmed.

Maybe your family friend has got their info mixed up, but the paper masks are pence not pounds

The NHS pays extortionate amounts from preferred suppliers for virtually everything. However, I doubt they would pay £47 for a single paper mask.

They don't pay that for paper face masks.
They don't for consumables
They pay more for specialist equipment, but with justification....

A nice sentiment, but I suspect this thing will slowly peter out rather than suddenly disappear, with mini-returns or periodic scares. I think a lot of people will be very wary for a long time - people are already talking about how it will change the way the world operates. We'll see. I hope it's not too long lasting. After all, people still take the lift up to the 110th floor.

Anyone who believes that putting a simple paper mask over their nose and mouth will give them protection against any virus , let alone this one , needs to think again .

Even the more sophisticated one mentioned above only claims to offer protection against non volatile liquids and dust particles , which doesn't even come close to offering protection against a virus .

Wearing gloves on the other hand, is a far more sensible and effective precaution . Do it .

No they aren’t 47 quid each 😂 there’s a dot somewhere in those numbers

Ok everybody has declared this bollocks paper mask, metal clip that mounts it to the nose, carbon filter 3M FFP3
OK that may be for a box but still too much.
That's £6.80 each, inc VAT which hospitals won't pay, and that site sells to hospitals (exclusively at the moment). It's a heavy duty mask with ventilator valve. I was in our local DIY place and bought a couple of masks before all this broke out and this is about the price of the better masks. They may have hiked the price by a quid or two, but it's not too much.

Ok let's just straighten this up the person in question said these are £47, so I assumed that meant each, hopefully they meant for the box of 10 (I didn't question it at the time). It may be that the hospital was paying each, as pointed out by another poster when using preferred contractors prices mysteriously rise, saw it all the time whilst working for the government. The link I put was to show which respirators working being used not the actual supplier. They aren't particularly useful for people with glasses as they clip on the nose where the bridge of the glasses sits however as we know the virus can enter through the eyes, there is an alternative which is basically a clear bag which sits over the head and is more expensive. Nothing is 100% (short of the rubber military respirators) but anything offers some protection even a scarf around your face.
As an aside the person in who was being fitted for the respirators, worked in a hospital wasn't front line Cornavirus but worked in another 'life or death' department.
Hope this answers everybody's questions.

Which hand though Joe. 😉

Let’s tell the EU we are not paying them a penny until this is over, that should soften the blow.
