Forget not completely shite, he wasn’t even remotely shite. He got 9 goals that season from right-wing, joint third total with Kabba, and was either first or second in assists. He also despite the groans from plenty when he’d lose possession never shied away from trying something more difficult rather than whatever was easiest – that’s what we needed at the time. He was completely overly criticised that season – some of the abuse he got from around where I sat used to drive me crazy. He played a huge part of that season. I’d go so far as to say that had he not been there we might not have gone up automatically – Gillespie certainly wasn’t up to speed that season, and was much more of an impact sub till we got promoted.

For me it was more of the eye test, and perhaps as a 14/15 yr old at the time not having the understanding of the game I do now (i.e. appreciating that taking more risks in the final 3rd will obviously lead to more dispossessions). It just happens that I remember him more for being frustrating than any of his goals/assists.

For me, he goes into the category of One Season Wonders – he had a really good season, and is one of the few players I’ve seen that were really comfortable to shoot or cross with their weaker foot. His contribution that season does for me go under the radar a bit with fans, much like Jagielka in midfield (there are people still that think he was always crap in midfield – he was really effective there that season), or Short at centre-back.

I am amazed Don Hutchison has not featured yet. He was superb elsewhere, perhaps he doesn't totally fall into the SHITE for us category, fair enough.

Lyle Taylor - 2 goals in 20 for us, looks like he could make an EPL move soon after 11 goals in Championship
Ramsdale - thought he'd always be League One level or backup championship
Calvert-lewin - young at the time, but never looked like he'd set the world on fire)
Simon Francis - very average tenure with us with 12 apps, who'd have thought he'd notch over 100 EPL appearances?

ok maybe i am harsh for saying shite, he never made an impact as a young gk and tbh i never saw him as epl potential, not shite, but yeah never saw him holding down a spot in the PL

Sort of – he was calamitous from early into his permanent spell. But the reason why we signed him permanently is that he’d actually been excellent in his loan spell the previous season.

Steve Simonsen had been excellent on loan in the closing stages of the previous season and when Paddy Kenny surprisingly moved on most thought (including myself) we would not suffer too much in this department. How wrong they/we all were.

David white, was class at city but was piss poor at the blades. Always remember him picking the ball up for a throw in before it had gone over the line therefore giving a free kick to the opponents. Summed up his time with us.

Simonsen was good on loan. As soon as he became a permanent he turned into a gibbering wreck. He cost us at least 10 goals that season and we would have gone up long before the Evans conviction or his moon boun penalty; if he could have done any of the following just once or twice....a) catch b) punch c) actually not be scared of contact
