If they decide to end the season I think it's only fair they allow the clubs with games in hand to complete those so that everyone finishes on the same amount of games. Clubs of course play the 1/2/3 games in hand behind closed doors.

I'm not just saying this because we have one and what it could help us achieve but still be nice 😁

But everyone has different levels of run-in difficulty. If, say, Villa got relegated on goal difference when their rivals still had Liverpool or City away, that would be very harsh. The only fair way is to finish all fixtures.

I think if they chose to allow teams to equal up games, i think they'd wait until mass gatherings were allowed again and have a weekend finale. What an amazing weekend that would be either way!

If it finishes now it has to be voided other than the league cup. The strategy is to delay the peak until summer so there's zero chance it will be back in April. The strategy itself is flawed as it's expecting everyone to do exactly as per the advice which depends on symptoms, but it is being spread before symptoms appear. Kids are still going to school which will spread it like wildfire. Kids will bring it home, infect parents / guardians, then it will spread around work places and to the elderly (Grandparents). The Government are going soft rather than full out, so the peak will be high. Therefore unless the Canadian immunisation works it could be some considerable time before we are back in BDTBL.

Says the Arsenal fan...

Bullshit Piers!
How on earth is it “fair” to abandon the season?

Finish this season off whenever it’s possible to do so. August if necessary.
Then shorten next season in whatever way fits best into the new time scale.
I.e. Half season? No league cup? No Carabou Cup? No Nations League? No International friendlies. Etc

Null and void the season Piers and Karen Brady can f**k right off imo! Funny how supporters views would differ their team was in a better league position. Almost sure that if West Jam and arsenal were sat pretty in European spots it would be the last thing on their minds. West Jam have already had enough luck the century and arsenal season has been the metaphorical equivalent of trying to pick up a bowling bowl with a popadom.

We should play a 30 game season with all games taking place in a week some teams to play Tuesday Saturday if they have games in hand and others just on the Saturday, I say this because Newcastles game with us would be their 30th and our 29th.
UTB! Wilder will sort it.

The games need to be balanced out whatever way you look at it. Give Liverpool the title and then do a play off system for Europe and relagation with the higher placed teams getting home advantage.

Problem is if there is a vote from the clubs I think they will void it and start again.

The problems come with Norwich, they are 6 points from safety, how does that disadvantage transfer to a playoff? A one off away match wouldn’t be fair to the home team. But then Norwich could still stay up so you can’t disadvantage them too much.

Then which clubs are in the European playoffs? Burnley in 10th are only 4 points behind us in 7th, what about Everton only 6 points behind in 12th. 6 points is enough for Norwich to get in the relegation playoff so surely Everton should be in the European playoffs? Do all Europe playoff clubs get a chance of both Champions League and Europa?

To me a playoff would be too complicated and in the case of the European Playoffs would include that many clubs that you might as well finish the season!

As the same cause is threatening everyone equally, just award draws for the rest of the season, and start again in August.

I agree it would be complicated and difficult to get right. Remember talking to a Polish lad about how there playoffs work and it was mad. But I would much prefer this option to voiding the season. Sorry for not really answering your questions but I don't have any answers.

In cricket, if a match can't be finish due to factors outside of anyone's control, they use a formula to decide who wins, effectively based on how well the sides have done up til that point in the match. The teams are all happy with this cos it's what they signed up before the game started.

If you'd asked the teams at the beginning of the season: in the unlikely event that a killer virus means the season has to be suspended three quarters of the way through, and after every effort is made to complete the season, if it's really not possible to finish the season before August, what should be done? I bet ten times out of ten they would all have agreed to settling on the positions of the league at the time of the suspension. Can you imagine them agreeing to just forget the three quarters of the season that have been played and start it all afresh? (hypothetically speaking, obviously).

The stupid thing now is that certain teams have so much to gain or lose from different scenarios that they can't be involved in any kind of objective decision making. See eg Karen Brady.

think the season will be finished, be it august or september, and it will involve all european leagues, difficult to see different solution in different leagues as they all participate in internationals and club championships. The only certain is the uncertain, a once in a lifetime experience, this virus could last a long time as the western world is unable to fight it like China who quarantined millions for two months.

Surely we just finish the season whenever it’s safe to resume play and then make adjustments for next season dependent on how much time there is available.
This season’s fixtures should be completed as agreed before its commencement.
It’s the 2020/21 season where we’ve got flexibility and the opportunity to change the rules before it starts and with everyone in agreement.
For example, scrapping the cups and creating more space for league fixtures. Or reducing the amount of fixtures so everyone only plays each other once (and could begin around Xmas time). Defo bin off international breaks! Change the format of the European competitions to reduce number of fixtures etc.

Give every team with a game in hand 3pts. Declare the season over with final positions now.

Easy peasy.
