I believe you are correct as one of the Euro spots goes to FA cup winner which if scrapped should mean next available spot in league

An option mooted by Celtic is count all the games played and rank on points per game which in fact suits us as wed be 5th
 
Agreed, they have to try and complete the fixtures - the implications of not finishing the season are just too great. Just think of the TV companies and the money the likes of Sky, BT, BBC and the many overseas broadcasters have paid for the right to televise games. If the season is abandoned presumably they will demand a refund for the games they will miss. This money has already been paid to clubs who have then spent it on transfer fees, wages, etc. Then there’s the issues of promotion and relegation. The Mail’s suggestion is just not practical and would likely be contested by the clubs in the playoff positions in the championship and probably most of the clubs in the premier league.

League One would need a points per game average, some clubs currently have two games in hand.
 
Most likely, few would object to Liverpool getting the title now. But beyond that, my word....cue the lawsuits after telling Watford and the Sham that they are relegated, and telling Preston [and others] that they no longer have a chance of promotion via the playoffs. Cue Chanser starting a separate lawsuit because [technically] the Pigs could still make 6th or even 5th and snatch the final, newly assigned auto spot.

And if players contracts have expired in June/July then so be it, you play without them. The same goes for players who may be infected in a few months.

We aren't dying of the plague, just stop acting like wet flannels and put together a summer timetable to complete the season. 9 games ffs, they could be done and dusted in 5 weeks.

Harsh I know but we still don't know how the virus is going to run and for how long. No choice is going to be a fair one and I don't think playing out the outstanding matches is going to be more fair.

Some teams will have their players flattened out with the virus,
Some will have squads in quarantine or a significant portion of them.
Those players who have had the virus might take a good while to recover to match fitness.
Those in quarantine won't be able to train properly especially as a group working on tactics and team skills.
Some will be able to keep their general fitness levels ok especially if they haven't had the virus and have home gyms but that is no substitute for training as a group.
Many players will end up out of contract before outstanding fixtures are completed.

As much as anything else different teams will be at different stages of readiness at different times so one team might be raring to go whilst their opponent has half the squad in quarantine and the rest not fully match fit. This is a respiratory illness remember. Ok teams have key players out of action from time to time but this is a whole new level. Given the levels of money involved some teams might be encouraged to play players who are not fit and that is no good for their well being or anyone elses.

Yes that's exactly what it might be - What they cant do though is just go on current positions as Blades have a game in hand as well as some others so they either play THAT game behind closed doors or use the average points per game accrued so far to determine the league position. There are 4 teams who have played 28 matches US v Villa and Man City v Arsenal - so fairness would say lets play those 2 matches ONLY behind closed doors as currently Villa would be relegated but if they beat us they would be safe but if we beat them we would be 5th ! and a possible Champions league place if the ban on City is upheld

The solution is simple but the EPL will not go with it.

3. Once these games are completed declare the season over. Award the title, Champions and Europa League places and relegate the bottom three.

This will result in the need for only 1 fixture to be completed Aston Villa v Sheffield United.

Villa to see if they can avoid relegation with Narwich and Bournemouth and the Blades to see if they can pip Newton Green to a Champions League place.

As far as the Championship and League 1 are concerned declare 37 and 35 game seasons respectively. No play offs mean the top three are promoted and bottom three are relegated. Only 1 team would seem to have a case for playing their game in hand to avoid relegation and that is Tranmere but they would need to win by a cricket score.

In league two a 37 game season with Cheltenham having to play their game in hand to see if they could pip Exeter for promotion.

In short potentially as little as three games behind closed doors to sort out all the leagues at a declared cut off point of games played.

As this benefits the Blades at the expense of Man U there is no way the EPL will agree to this preferring a buggers muddle to logic and the thought of that pesky Sheffield United lowering the tone of the Champions League. Remember Piggy Richards is at the EPL.

Equally so , there is currently no cure, so statistically many players will never be able to play again and so this season can never be completed fairly and maybe encouraged to play whilst still contagious. As 70% of the season is completed award 0-0 for every game and finish the season now. We can then prepare for a muted version if possible for August and maybe a European campaign , that then becomes a new start for everyone equally.

The teams relegated would never agree and take legal action

Sadly for a few players it will be career ending. It damages the lungs and it isn't known yet what the long term prospects are for the individual. These guys are athletes and small margins in health are the difference in being played/signed or not. One reason for me suggesting no European competition is the guys get a season to recover more without the stress of extra matches. Ok there is squad rotation but that basically means when do you effectively play your second team? Not a good advertisement for the credibility of any competition.

Neither do I like the idea of no relegation and just letting WBA and Leeds come up, I was banking on a shit play off side coming up to take one of next seasons relegation places.
 
If they hand Liverpool the title and allow 2 teams from championship up, next season could be a month longer and realistically the Euros will be postponed so the schedule will be busy to say the least.

We’ve got to finish this season regardless of when it is, extend players contracts to be end of the season rather than a date. Not like we’ll miss any games because we’re away on holiday is it?

From a personal point of view, I don’t want our best season in decades to be a blob in the history books, plus if they take points off Wednesday and no relegation, where’s the punishment there to stop them cheating again?

With all of these solutions there will be losers and the potential for court cases. The season needs to finish and I’ve no doubt it will eventually.

Unless of course coronavirus wipes out the majority of the population, but it that’s the case I don’t think anyone will care about this season.

Experts are saying the peak epidemic will be in14 weeks,if that’s the case there’s no chance of football at all until the start of next season
so pausing it and starting a new season but with the current tables does’nt seem like a bad idea
 
Bloke on sky sports saying leeds west Brom up and no relegation then 4 down next year and 2 up...no mention whatsoever of promotion relegation in league one and two and the presenters never quizzed him on this...does football not exist outside the top two leagues to these cunts or is that a daft question

Sure Ive seen someone suggest it somewhere of having the prospect of keeping the points tally now and start a new season with a full 38 game fixture list.
 
Matches taking place up and down the country in multiple sports including football today.
Could have been a lot of games played behind closed doors today at the least.
Given we're not far from the end of the season seems odd to have just chucked a set of games away now.
 
I wonder how many clubs in the lower leagues are going to come out of the other side of this.
