‘Nigel Adkins deserves credit for keeping that team that Clough left him in League One, and he was up against it from the start with a squad of mediocre journeyman and professional piss takers , very little money to spend and little room for manouvere in the transfer market,’

That makes no logical sense. You say he deserved credit for keeping the side together but then immediately follow it by saying the side he kept together was full of wankers and he had no money to buy new players. So what exactly does he deserve credit for?

Sorry if it is lost in translation. He deserves the credit for the keeping that team of players from getting us relegated. Because of what contracts that squad was on, he had no choice but to keep the nucleus of the squad together.

Cheers, makes sense now. But I disagree. I don’t think that was a relegation squad, he didn’t really use the players properly and apparently wasn’t given much money in the JTW because the board had totally lost faith in him. I’m not saying he was a bad manager or that it wasn’t an extremely difficult situation but he didn’t do a very good job and, based on his record, should have done better.

And another one following on from the last one. If Jose Baxter had kept his head down, worked hard and not failed a drug test he would still be here now, finally fulfilling his potential playing in the Duffy role.

Technical ability was there (Premier League standard is debatable though). Unfortunately for him, he has shit for brains.

I don't think he had a squad that should've been at risk of relegation but I do think he had a squad that finished about where it would've been expected to on paper. Sharp did carry it somewhat by being the best striker in the division. And I also think that Adkins suffered a lot from how many terrible signings Clough had brought in (was it something like 26 players he signed?) that he couldn't shift. Taking nothing away from Wilder, but he came in at the right time that he could make the kind of wholesale changes that Adkins never got a chance at. On the other hand, Adkins brought in Hammond and Woolford, so maybe it's for the best that he never made many transfers.

The only thing Adkins deserves any credit for was bringing Sharp back.

He made McEverley captain, signed the likes of Hammond, Woolford and Sammon and oversaw the most depressing season in my lifetime in which I’d become numb to our results.

For what happened next though, it’s fair to say, it was worth it...

Nah, he said he deserved credit for keeping them in the division with that side (I believe).

It's just that, from time to time I guff at the match, safe in the knowledge that because I'm generally the only female on our row, no one will ever suspect it's me.
Feel better for getting that off me chest.

I liked it when we were crap.

When you are crap, it doesn't matter if you get worse as you are still crap.

When you get good, everyone keeps telling you that it will not last and you will be crap again.

Then you feel bad about not being good anymore.

I know it’s you. ;)

The first two saves, I probably agree - but the third one, flinging out his arm to save what looked like a tap in, was exceptional
3 chances and he was still juggling like a one armed clown, took Mcgoldrick to sort it out.

(I'm kidding I thought that was the moment he got picked for England.)

There's no answer to that. I suspect strongly there maybe though. Excuse me but by guff do you mean trump.

That's the one..... Trump, guff, fart, bottom burp, little Tommy squeaker, brown thunder, exhume the dinner ghost etc

It hit Vrancic’s arm between the first and second so the really impressive third one, and McGoldrick’s clearance, were virtually pointless as it would have been VAR’d anyway.
Just had a look at that and not sure, glad they cleared it anyway.

As delighted as I am with the way this season has gone, we have been fortunate to take advantage of the mundane overall standard of the league.

There's a samey muchness covering a dozen teams, though there are no obviously weak ones this year, and four of the habitual top six are very mediocre indeed by their own standards. This has also led everyone to believe that Liverpool, though good, are better than they are..

As a result of all this we've been able to propel ourselves to the gates of Europe with a clear method which is, at least, different from the bulk-filler of the league which in all honesty we aspired to become a part of.

So Wednesdayite claims that we've been lucky are a little bit true, though that's more of a case of a blind pig finding a truffle by accident now and again.

1. Egan is the first player I would look to upgrade in the summer.

2. It bothers me sometimes how often Wilder uses the phrase "football club" in his interviews.

Agree on both.

I don't think we've seen the worst of Egan's bloopers yet.

If Wilder wasn't a great manager, he'd get pelters for his interviews. He's a bit David Brent at times.

Egan has cost us a couple of goals for sure. He has also saved us about 10-15 more with outstanding blocks and last ditches etc. There are reasons we have conceded the least goals from outside the box, and he is one of them.

As for our Chris and his awful habit of calling our football club a football club, think attention to detail. It really helps with the things that really matter, such as events on the pitch.
