Tony's ready for a forum break but doesn't have the discipline to stop by himself. It's a cry for help πŸ˜„
😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴 More a case of despairing at the anti Blades on here. Too obvious.

If only there was an admin team who would do that...

Oh...
You'd be great as The Speaker on The House of Commons. " Oh, please Mr Corbyn don't say naughty things to Mr Johnson", " Mr Johnson, you're going to the naughty step", "

As someone who has been on the forum since 2013, I thought you might have been aware of our (admittedly lax) forum rules.

However, you seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that these don't apply to you.

I'm happy to discuss this via PM if you'd like a reminder?

You'd be much better ruling against the anti Blades/supporters comments than my objectivity. This is not a snowflake Forum but a Forum for football fans. Banter's always been a part of it. Too many giving it out, me included, but not able to accept it, me not included.

Got myself a coffee and a spare half an hour. I look forward to reading the remainder of what I expect will be quite a brief exchange.

For what it's worth I watched a stream at home. Not much to be heard from the Blades at this one in my opinion. It's been MUCH better at the other aways I've been to/watched this season. Credit though to the Thames Valley tifosi for giving it a go.

Reading's crowd
Unpopular opinion....

The Madejski is everything a modern football ground should be. Accessible, good facilities, good food kiosks and kids activities outside, plenty of leg room, every seat a good view no matter how short/tall, good accoustics.

Not sorry

Ps. Remembered tonight why I don't like Reading.
I left the Wetherspoons to get the shuttle bus at 6.50pm and only made it in for kick off. There were big queues for the buses and traffic was slow. It nearly locked off in the queue before the game untill the police intervened. Handbags really.

In a haapy way, I was slightly disappointed that McGoldrick's first goal of the season happened in the least exciting way - an early goal at the opposite end to the Blades fans. I had dreamt it would be a last minute winner in front of the Kop which would have raised the roof. It was still a happy moment though!

First league goal, 89th minute winner on Sunday.

That's a drawback! Also the reason I walked it there and back from Reading centre, can't stand queuing or sitting in traffic when I could be on my way.

Here's a thought, just because somebody has a different opinion to you it doesn't make them a Sheffield Wednesday fan.

Fuck me.
I'd rather not. Just suspicious of the ones that slag the Blades and support NON STOP.

fair play to all that went , heard our fans plenty on screen

Reading fans close ups were hillarious , like they had rounded up 15 year old chavs /chavettes from outside Spar just before kick off

also f##king drums - cant stand teams/fans that have some idiot banging the drum trying to make a 'atmosphere' - i suppose atleast this crappy champ team didnt have some hideous fat troll-like -creature jumping about with his shirt off also !

It was good at the start and in extra time. I’d say vocally it was a bit subdued from the equaliser and through the 2nd half – though given we seemed to get progressively worse as the half wore on, understandable. Every person that came though should be given a pat on the back simply because they had to endure a trip to Reading FC.
Agree, it was very subdued for large parts of the game. Not helped by our performance, or the fact we were sandwiched between 2 stands of vocal Reading fans...what a mixed bunch - half of them with their incessant drum-beating like Palace Ultras, the other half old-school "You're shit, aaagh!" after every goalkick.

Tony, PeterN is a Blade, as I've pointed out before. He can just be a bit like this sonetimes, as can we all, even when United are good.

When did this place get so precious and angry? More to the point, why?

Good support, quiet support. Doesn't really matter we're in the quarter finals. Any reason to get angry and personal, it's all just opinion?

Blades fans are generally a broad church., from fundamentalists to the agnostics and curious. In my 50 years of following they have generally been very accepting, tolerant and understanding and that was replicated on this forum, which is why I joined. Indeed, opposition fans who behaved were accepted and some stick around, like JonnyRed(WCFC) and HammerInPeace, whilst those that wanted to troll, shenanigans was declared and members could go to town on them before the ban came.

The rules here are pretty simple. In a nutshell play the post not the poster or the expanded version, don't get personal and if you don't like something posted report it. Maybe a sign of the times, debate is out and entrenched, infallible is in.

Chill out Blades. And a thought, given our situation and their situation why wouldn't you welcome any Rusties on here? They must be mad or desperate to even think about coming on here at the moment.

The stadium, maybe. Its location, however, is godawful: plonked in the middle of an industrial/commercial zone "with easy access to the A34 and M4" aka absolutely fucking miles from Reading itself.

As for the fans - Reading's were pretty good and the constant drum (piped through the tannoys?) made it difficult for our fans to get any songs going.

Back on topic, as someone who was watching the Facebook stream I have to admit that the main noise I heard was from the home fans.

That's no criticism of our support or allegation that the travelling Blades weren't singing though. Having been a few times, Reading always seems to be one of those places where it's difficult to carry much atmosphere unless you're right at the back as it just gets lost. And the positioning of the microphones/cameras would also affect how it came across on the stream.

I think it's fucking awful. The view we had was shit (admittedly near the front).

It's soulless. No character. Is it functional? Maybe, but who cares about functional? The toilets are better than the Kop (not saying much), but still massive queues. Not sure the food kiosks/bars were any different to any other TBH. I don't think the acoustics were particularly good, I just think they're unique in having both sides near the away end make loads of noise (and fair play, they did that well last night, but that drum is fucking awful!). If all their fans were at the far end I think you'd struggle the hear them.

The worst thing is the whole out of town/retail park shenanigans. The areas around grounds (particularly pubs and food outlets) help define the match day experience. What defines the Madejski? The Travelodge on the M4 eastbound? Also, if you need to go back into Reading, the transport links are terrible.

I remember playing Sheffield FC in a preseason friendly at the Don Valley. It was shit. The Madejski is Don Valley without the running track and TBH, the area surrounding Don Valley was better equipped to cater for occasional influxes of people than than the area around the Madejski is!

A weird thing about these bowls is that the design of them starts to look outdated quite quickly (probably because of all the others that you visit that are brand new), whereas older stadiums can (if upgraded correctly) improve with age. This is particularly true when every club is falling over themselves to sell up and ship out to a bowl and classic older grounds are becoming rarer. Being one of the first bowl type designs, the Madejski already looks older than it is.

It's everything Bramall Lane isn't (remote, inaccessible, nowhere near the centre, nowhere near streets filled with pubs/restaurants/cafes/chippies/bookies, etc). There's no mad bastards on approaching streets promising Jesus will save you, deafening you with "THREE POUND FIFTY YOUR MATCH PROGRAM", or playing godawful bag pipes. There might have been if the ground was in the middle of the town (or still at Elm Park).

It's a godawful place that I'm not in any particular hurry to ever revisit. My turn to express an unpopular opinion: Millwall have a better ground, and I honestly think it's a better matchday experience.

If we moved from Bramall Lane to a bowl by the side of the M1, I'd probably never set foot inside a football ground again.

This kind of stuff is what can drag this wonderful place down for a while to the levels of most other football forums when you mosey for a nosey... I always sidestep it all , not worth getting involved in as I feel pretty much all the other regular great posters and contributors do the same as well. It's not my place to do anything like that even if I felt any compunction to..S24SU welcomed me in November 2015 and its felt like 'home' ever since. :)

Don't get too comfortable, Crab Construction are currently building the forum a 'bad joke isolation unit'.

It was quiet. It's not very often, as away fans, we get "your support is fucking shit" sung at us (especially by a fanbase who still do the "yourrrrr shitttttt ahhhhhhhhhhh" thing!), but we got that throughout the second half last night.

Not really sure why it was quiet but it was undeniably so (apart from the "Sheffield United" back and forth before half time and it was fun to sing "you've seen United now fuck off home" in the final few minutes to those that had been baiting us). A few people were trying to make noise, but songs seemed to peter out quite quickly and not catch on. Bit of a weird experience really, as we tend to make decent noise everywhere we go.

It was bloody freezing too. I was next to the Reading fans on the side stand and there was a lot of insults thrown back and forth. If this had of been a Saturday 3pm kick off the atmosphere would have been better and we'd have sold more tickets.
