Chris does seem to be actively involved in any and all issues to with players and playing. While I’m sure the mundane stuff is doing nicely in the hands of his mate Bettis.
I have got involved in most of the threads about Wilder and his present and future place at the club.
It strikes me that things like fitness, injuries, medical etc all get the Wider purview, as part of his holistic approach to the club.
It’s surely no coincidence that we have had so few serious long term injuries to first team personnel this season. Note how many times our high levels of physical fitness get a mention, yet we show few signs of tailing off now the season is on the run to the finish. I’m equally certain that his staff feel comfortable approaching him about any topic, or player who might give cause for concern. That’s one of the keys to good management.
Of course this observation tempts fate, and we could all collapse in a heap anytime now, but somehow, I think not.
Wilder will take a keen interest in Didsy for example, but because of his involvement, at every level, he’s happy to trust those in physio and physical conditioning, as they have been so instrumental in giving Wilder the tools to do what he does best.
I recall the upset when Mourhino got involved with the club doctor at Chelsea, I think? No such histrionics at the Lane, where every department seems like a smooth cog in a well oiled machine. Wilder seems to know instinctively that everyone at the club has the same purpose as him. To provide a choice of top class talent to put on a starting shirt for the boss every game we play.
He knows if and when he needs to put a word in, while giving their expertise, the necessary levels of trust without interfering overmuch
His relationship with Bettis also works well, acting as a bridge between first team matters, the chairman, owner and the board. A gentle hand on the tiller, knowing that, the whole is pulling together now, and for his future vision for the club.
