Henderson Least Accurate Keeper (Top 6 Excluded)

Yep I saw this. You’d have thought this would have been included in the OP for balance.

For balance? about his kicking accuracy I should have included save percentages....... ok. I didnt see the other tweet, just post stuff I see thats interesting.

Surely the only statistics that matter for a keeper are the goals against and clean sheets. How many goals are scored from moves initiated by the goalie? Jordan Pickford is a good passer but seems to drop a major bollock every other week. Only a complete tool would pick him over Hendo.

Hi Gareth

If you didn’t see the other Tweet fair enough, they popped up on my timeline more or less together hence my comment. If you had seen it I would assume the title would have been ’Henderson Least Accurate Keeper but the best shot stopper’ eh?

The two most direct teams in the league, United and Burnley have the smallest GK pass accuracy. Not exactly a shock

It's a no nonsense approach from CWAK, is my take on it. We are less likely to concede if ball is played long, since defenders are in position then, compared to Basham or whoever losing the ball just outside the box. (WH at home springs to mind, when Fleck got missed pass from GK outside of box).

Watching the FA Cup game between Arsenal and Leeds I was impressed by the Leeds keepers long pass accuracy.

Was expecting to have to say that this sort of analysis is meaningless without factoring pass length into the equation, but they did, so there is that

There's a lot of overly defensive people in this thread.

His long kicking is poor by premier league standards as is shown by the stats. It has nothing to do with our tactics, and if anything we have a striker that has a very good aerial dual winning percentage in McBurnie.

The eye test tells us what the stats do, he often kicks the ball out of play when under no pressure. It doesn't make him a bad keeper, but it is something to improve.

I remember Kasper Schmeichel's distribution really catching my eye when we played Leicester at home. Really impressive, not just short stuff either. Takes after his old man.

It is an issue. I appreciate that we may choose to go long from the keeper but that’s probably because CWAK realise that he’s likely to drop us in trouble by trying to play creatively by passing it out. The other issue is that it makes it easier for the opposition. If they know that’s how we play they can pack the midfield and contest the aerial balls. Teams that play from the back draw opponents on to them and open up space to play into. I do think we create pressure on ourselves because we give away possession easily this way and that may cost us when teams are pressing. All that said, he’s a great keeper but it’s something he needs to work on.

There are stats and then there are damn lies. He's the best English keeper out there bar none.

We must keep boosting this idea to keep his value and reputation down and make the loan extension more likely. Next season improves distribution and decision making on coming off line. Manu relegated, Blades champions league. Job done.⚔

Saw it reported that he said he won’t go back to ManU until he is guaranteed to start ahead of DeGea. If true, that’s great news for us.

He needs to improve his distribution but let’s have some balance and perspective (yes, I know. This is a forum.)
Hands up everyone who would prefer Ryan of BHA than Hendo.

I think it’s not just about Hendo playing out from the back. The whole team is not great at playing through a high press against sides that know how to press properly. If we had a keeper with better distribution he’d still be playing it long against that type of teams.

Ive noticed it many times. yes hes a good shot stopper but equally his passing loses us possession a lot when he often kicks it out for a throw or directly to the opposition. I would rather we played it into midfield than tried lumping it to the strikers so often, it gets a little 1 dimensional at times. With Sanders height and composure in midfield we may look for that option a little bit more now.

In regards to his save/concede ratio lets also not forget that our defence is the main reason we concede so few goals as well.

Hendo is a good keeper and im goad we have him, but the stats dont lie, his distribution is frustrating at times.

It's a pity Jamal Blackman isn't on that list, because he'd definitely be bottom. I was wondering how he's getting on - because some folks on here wanted to fight me when I said I didn't rate him. He's on loan at Bristol Rovers currently. Super! He's doing really well isn't he? :D

i don't understand why us and Leicester are even included if this excludes the top 6

It's the 'big6' not the top 6. This is from the old assumption that the lesser teams wouldn't pick up any points against the big6, so effectively were chasing all their points in a 14 team mini-league.

It is obviously not the current top 6, as potentially all those historic stats might have to be changed every week.

Op says top 6 and that was what I was responding to.

It's all bollocks anyway as it's out of context. The Arsenal keeper should have great pass completion rates as he spends 5 minutes every game making 5 yards passes to and from his centre halves.

For long passes I'm not sure that these stats are even measuring the keeper. If the keeper kicks the ball, it's all about who can win a 50/50 challenge

The OP include the tweet from the 'Other14' which is the group we are talking about.

There is no 'context' as any stats are only a help in understanding the game. No one is saying there are any hard and fast rules here, so do't get your knickers in too much of a twist.

He was decent keeper with poor distribution, I remember also posting it at the time and getting pelters.... He's recovering from a broken leg I think?

So he’s not Ronaldhino....who’s gives a fk.. ....he’s a top keeper..end of ..

It’s generally speaking not been an issue, but it’s more visibly an issue when we’re playing a side that we’re struggling to hold onto the ball against. The importantly thing though is he’s conceding possession further up the pitch rather than around his own penalty area. While that’s the extent of his distribution issues he more than makes up for it with the rest of his game.
