If Blackwell were to go who would we have next

O’Driscoll? he is a good manager but would the change in playing style be too much for our squad we already have seen what happened when Robson tried to turn us into a ‘passing side’

Barnsley s manager Mark Robins bubble as now broken but he did look the biz at Rother ham

How about Blackpool’s manager Ian Holloway who got together a cheap squad that has consistently punched above its weight and he has had previous success

If we wanted a blade how about port vale Mickey Adams unbeaten in south Yorkshire this season and also appears to spot bargains and play decent football

Other blades are Andy Scot at Brentford & Keith Curle who was with NW at Palace

Russell Slade was in charge before NW an he has done well on limited resources

Another outside bet could be Lee Clarke at Huddersfield

But please god not Megson not Southall and not Jewell

The problem with most (and I mean nearly all) managers is that the decent ones have short periods of success, but are normally just about adequate. The exceptions are the ones who are genuinely very good managers (Ferguson Snr, Wenger, Hodgson, Moyes [EDIT:] and Redknapp), and the ones who are adequate without any periods of success at all but who keep getting work anyway. I'd put Blackwell in the successful now and again category, but the problem that I have with most of the 'lets get rid of the manger' crowd is that it is actually quite hard to think of an alternative who can work within the budgets and still bring some success. Now that we seem to have found 'passing football' is possible with our squad maybe it isn't sucha bad call after all...

I wouldn't take any of the names other than O'Drisscoll from that lot, well infact i would probably take Holloway but i heard/read an interview with him where he said he will never leave a club in the way he left Plymouth for Leicester which makes me think he'd never come to us.

I think Duncan makes a good point but a poor start to next season and KB's position will be untenable, no question about it.

Phil Brown and Steve Parkin for me.
or Tony Mowbray and Gary Speed.

O'Driscoll, too expensive and probably wouldn't join us.

Robins, see above

Holloway, see above

Mickey Adams- Why??? What has he done?

Keith Curle hasn't had a managers job yet and is a bizarre choice, again it's probably based purely on the fact 'he's a blade'

Andy Scott- Has done an alright job but nothing spectacular at Brentford, the fact he used to play for us is again completely irrelevant

Slade- Are you having a laugh?

Lee Clarke- See robins and o'driscoll

Sorry but United fans are always clamouring for the head of KB yet the managers they would have are unrealistic or not good enough.

If KB were to leave I think Keith Hill would be a good replacement.

O'Driscoll would jump at the chance of joining us - a club 2 to 3 times the size of his current one.

Robins too expensive? Eh? Why? And he's not exactly pulled up any tress with the Dingles.

Lee Clarke. Came across as a right thick tw@t when in the studio for Newcastle v Blades match.

Agree with you on Adams - he is hopeless.

I laugh when I hear the names mentioned. If we can't afford to pay for players (and we can't) why and how does anyone expect us to get rid of Blackwell, pay him off and then recruit a new manager the calibre of Mowbray or the like?

For me, assuming Blackwell went (and as he failed in delivering the play offs I believe it is time), it needs to start with the Chairman being honest and telling everyone we are in the shit and its going to be a long hard slog back. None of this 5 years time shit because thats all it is. Then I would take a manager like Paul Ince. No cost required and someone who has the ability to get good players in without lashing cash.

Back to basics for me, there will be no money and there will be no big names. We are going to have to get used to it.
