So whose covering for McGoldrick on that bench?

Nobody is covering for McGoldrick, he isn’t in the team.

I know what you’re really asking though and the answer is....you’ll have to ask Wilder. It could quite easily be a tactical decision, nobody on here will know

.... I'll ask again. You've pointed the obvious out. Now why wouldnt wilder put a similar type of player on the bench, such as Freeman who can play number 10 role.

I'd say this is as good as saying Luke Freeman might possibly be off. 7 million pounds and hadn't made the bench in the last two games. It's been said we need to move some out before bringing in new players, I feel Freeman is part of that, right or wrongly.

Freeman might be injured? Wilder might have made the tactical decision that we need cover elsewhere? And there’s also the fact that you’re saying this like we haven’t got 2 other strikers on the bench

Edit: and you do realise that Freeman and McGoldrick play in different positions, don’t you?

Might be, but also might not be..

Just like he might be off, but also might not be..

I'm talking about a creative player, not a striker. The bench doesn't contain any creativity. Freeman would add that to the options off the bench.. its weird that hes not there for me.

What’s your sources telling you?

We have forward players on the bench.
McBurnie dropped deeper when Didsy went off last week
We're away from home
Ravel hasn't come onto the bench either
Right and left Wingbacks, Centre half and defensive midfielder all on the bench.

None of the above suggests that Luke Freeman is either injured or on his way, but he could be either of those things....

What it does suggest is that Wilder wants lots of cover for the defence, defensive midfield and wing backs, but also has two very capable forward players that can come in and McBurnie could drop deeper if needed (like he did last week)

Not even on the bench today nor was he v West Ham. Is he off or injured?

Wilder declared a fully fit squad last week and this (granted Didzy has picked up a knock) so something else going on.

I was told by chance in November he wasn't happy, maybe he isn't?

We’re rocking up to play a longer direct system today.
Not a lot of legs up top fitness wise so will be surrendering a lot of possession and hoping to catch them short with Moose on the break.

I don’t see a game winner or game changer on the bench either. If we concede I don’t see us getting anything today, without Didsy we are very one dimensional. Set pieces will be crucial for us, we need to make the most of them.

also feel Besic has been very unlucky not to get a start. Lunny has looked shattered of late.

I'd say LJBlade is right and Baldock has taken a knock. After that the subs do make sense.
Verrips -GK
Jags - only CB
Besic- if we need to tighten up in midfield.
Osborn- the utility cover
Freeman - as said above in case George has to come off.
Sharp- only out and out striker
Robinson- this last spot is probably where the decision was made. Use Robinson like at man city and hope to catch them on the break or Freeman and hope we have enough of the ball that he gets it up field. Given its arsenal away he has probably made the right call. Wouldn't read too much Into it.

If we’re playing more direct then we’d be better off going with Lundstram than Besic as Lundstram has the mentality needed to get forward and help the forwards out. Besic is more defensive minded

It might also be as simple as Wilder rotating things to keep everyone involved

Very true, but in a game where you need to keep possession better when you have it Besic offers a bit more. Lunny may have been better suited with his running Coming on in the second half.
Plus I think if we’d have kept it tight and had them creating nothing up to 70mins then I would have seen us getting at them from then and possibly sneaking it as the home pressure began to tell.

See nothing else but an Arsenal win now sadly, we need a great start to the second to reset it. But worry without Didsy we have very little creativity

He's done here before he's even started.

What a fucking waste.

Wilder wanted to use Osborn over him today. Still an usual choice when it would be good to have an attacking midfielder on the bench especially with Didsy out.

With today's omission from the matchday squad, it looks like Luke Freeman is off. Hope this doesn't come back to bite us on the Bob Harris, should Fleck move on in this window. Anyroad, in Wilder we trust. Another southern CAM heads back down south.

He’s at the game with the match day squad.

It might just be a case of Besic doing better in training, and nobody is dislodging Fleck, simples.

If it is due to an imminent move, then it will be a massive shame. We don't get to see enough flair players at United, never have.
