Would you pay £6m for a 34, (in a couple of weeks) year old striker.....no, neither would I.

If we got £1m for him I would be gobsmacked!

Either way I don't think he will go anywhere permanently, loan if anything.

I'm not a football club, so no I wouldnt pay anything for him. Just as a comparison how much do you think derby are paying for Rooney who is a year older?

You pay for proven quality (higuain for example)

He might be 34 soon, but you buy sharp, you're guaranteed goals in the championship. Not even debatable.

They didn't pay a transfer fee for him.

£2M would be about right, he’s 34 now and there’s no guarantee he will be the same player he was last season.

For a player guaranteed to score 15 at least? Think about it, Waghorn went for 7

When he was 28 with 3 or 4 good years at least left in him.

Billy is 34 next month.....£6m for a striker who has got a year tops left at Championship level...…..granted he will score goals beyond that at lower league level if he chooses to go on but Derby would get zero return on that investment, unless by some miracle Derby go on a mega run and manage to win the play-offs...….not beyond the realms of possibility but still, £6m would be a massive gamble for them.

If anything it will be a loan. If permanent I really can't see much over £1.25m absolutely tops.

Christiano Ronaldo is 35 next month... 😉

But and it's a big but that 6 million pound investment gets you to the premier league, the money spent would be a drop in the ocean compared.

Do the local press desperately want this move to happen for some reason? We’ve had Wilder repeatedly reiterate the position, and now we’ve got headlines like these that give the impression someone high up at the club is trying to push the move, only to discover when you open the article that it’s...Darren Bent?!

I have leapt to the defence of the Star a fair bit in the past, but wtf? Are we going to get an exclusive tomorrow where Kevin Phillips offers his view?

I'm surprised you're surprised.

All I will say is if Madine went for 6m then Billy is more than worth 6m, I'd hate to see him go but sentiment cannot rule here Derby may have not paid a transfer for Rooney. What I will say is the money the are paying him and inducements will come to at least 5m in his pocket so he's not exactly free, isn't there some deal with the sponsors or summat paying for it so FPP rules not breached?

And if your Auntie had a dick she'd be your Uncle....

I wonder who exactly is urging Billy to consider the move, as the article states? His agent maybe, Chris Wilder unlikely), or maybe an ex Blades player like Kevin Gage who writes for the Star, but no it's Darren Bent! So in essence there's nothing to see here, like many headlines from newspapers its somewhat misleading. I also thought Bent was quite derogatory to Billy when he says that Billy has done well in the lower leagues but this season hasn't looked as lethal in the Premier League as he had in League One. Anyone would think Billy had spent his entire career at Fleetwood or similar. Did Darren Bent not watch the Championship last season?! Adrian Durham was equally rude when he said Billy is League One; well he wasn't last season, most if not all teams in the Championship would love Billy on loan I'm sure.

For those that have watched Billy this season, he's looked decent in his cameo's but its difficult to be lethal from the bench!

I heard Fulham today - from a Fulham supporter. I told him I was the only fat lad from Sheffield he’s likely to see in west London.

I wonder what Andy Mutch thinks.
