Outgoing? John Lundstram

an unsubstantiated rumour and people cant wait to attack him, he has been a revelation, deserves an improved contract and I am sure is a key part of Wilders planning. All the sums players get these days in the premier league are obscene, no one deserves 20k a week never mind anything else, but this is the stupid world we live in. I reckon there are other premier teams who wouldn't think twice about paying him that much.
Lets just hope he signs a new deal which will of course be within our budget plans

If it’s true then it’s bye bye. Great resurgence and fair play to him. In the words of our leader to Duffy ‘If you have a better offer then good luck’

Been average last 5 games and after Friday night, if his agent thinks he’s worth £60k then 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Just to add - he’s not even appearing on the bogus twitter transfer rumours. If he does hold out, he’s back in the Championship.

Don’t believe he would be so stupid as to ask for that sort of money
More likely his agent, attempting to leverage the fact that his client could earn something in that region from other clubs (£60k pw is ~£12M over 4 years; the sort of figure that some clubs would consider good value for a premier league player). Good luck to him, as we're not going to pay him close to that much.

I'm still conflicted about Lunndstram. He's been good this season, but I still think he's the weakest of our three midfielders by a distance.

It'd be a risk from his perspective, he's out of contract in the summer, and if we tell him to bollox, will another PL team else have him and pay him the 60k he wants?

50/50. Not sure he walks into any other side in this league.

I know that some people love a bit of gossip and drama, like a load of old women, but f**k me, seriously?

Does anyone on this thread really think that John Lundstram is asking for 60k+ a week?? Seriously?

Will he want a rise?, yes, we all do, the lad went from bit part player to being an ever present starter in this premier league campaign, scored our first premier league home goal, became our first player this season (correct me if wrong) to score two in a single game.

Yes he has looked tired in the last few games, he put a trademark Lundstram tackle in on Friday, but not enough of them in recent game, yes he needs a rest for a game, maybe two, and then see how he is with recharged batteries.

But all this "Lunny is asking for 60k a week" bollocks, deserves to be dropped in the same bin as "Billy is off to the pigs" and "Wilder is seriously tempted by Everton", or other such shit.

Cracking player this season. Deserves a new contract

He has had a good start to this season but in the last few games his standards seem to have dropped, now that might just be down to the contract negotiations or the amount of games played recently.
He was shocking on Friday I think he gave the ball away 5 times in succession resulting in a few words from Wilder.

Think you could argue that for the last 3 or 4 McGoldrick, Egan and Stevens have also been below their usual standards. This has coincidentally been our busiest period and away to the top 2. I think we need to cut them a bit of slack, while trying to do our utmost to get them all back to form. For me, Lundstram is still the best option at RCM when at 100%. Till he’s back near that though, Besic has done enough recently to come in for a bit.

Anybody actually believe this shit ...as if he asking for £60k a week ...it’s complete and utter bollox ...a non story

Absolute bollocks.

if he’s asked for that he would have been dropped and already in his way out of the club.
Wilder wouldn’t wear it. Fact.

It will be interesting to see how hard CW pushes for Lundstram to stay. IMO Utd can and need better in that position. Whilst he's useful cover for CM and RCM, I certainly wouldn't break the bank in trying to persuade him to stay.

If he had asked for that then he would already be dropped and told to find another club.

So it's bollocks imo.

I have been Lunnys biggest fan but he was awful on Friday and his performances seem to have dipped as news about contract negotiations surfaced, it often happens!

Either way I hope it gets sorted soon, we don't need any disruption in the dressing room at the moment.

If he is holding out for a huge unrealistic salary I can only see it ending one way and he will be out as fast as Duffy was.

If the rumours about Tameze are true and with Besic hardly putting a foot wrong I wouldn't push my luck if I was him!

I dont think hes asked for 60k...but he would easily get it elsewhere and heres how.

Assuming he was on a long contract and another premiership side wanted to sign him how much would we demand in todays market...remembering hes English and had a lot of positive publicity...10m minimum I would think? 60k a week is 3.1m pa so on a free 3 years of his.wages covers a fee that a side would have had to pay for him if he was under contract

If he thinks he can get 60k elsewhere then let him try!

Unless he starts playing like he was earlier in the season no PL club would want him.

The problem is not just Lunny. His is the first contract up for renegotiation since we established ourselves in the top 10. But he is clearly not on a level to importance to the team as any of the back 5, Fleck Norwood. So assuming that none of those are on £60k or a thing like that it would create a lot of ill feeling and Unrest. It is reported we have the lowest wage bill in the PL by some margin and no doubt this needs to be looked at but for the present we can’t give Lunny a silly increase. I think his agent is trying it on. Maybe he has same one as Duffy. They are both scousers and used to share cars over from Liverpool.

I'm sure all sorts of figures are banded about and tactics employed during contract negotiations so it would be unfair to solely refer to the £60k/week amount even if it had been mentioned.

A footballer's career is a relatively short one so I don't blame anyone for chasing the $$$ if they're that way inclined.

If Lundstram and his representatives feel that he can realise that amount then good luck to them. However, I very much doubt he'd get anything like that at Utd and I'm struggling to think of many other Prem clubs where he'd (i) get into their midfield and (ii) would be offered that much.

I obviously don't have any insider knowledge but I have a feeling the differences will be resolved and he'll sign (which I'm not too fussed about as I feel Utd need better in that position in order to improve even further).

Cracking player this season. Deserves a new contract

Agree...but what is a fair contract?

Lets assume he’s currently on £10K a week and the going rate for an average young PL player is £70K a week.
Lets assume the going rate for an average Championship player is £10K a week, average league 1 player £4K a week and league 2 player £2K a week.

So the question is how would you assess Lundstrum?

Last season he wasn‘t even Championship standard....so probably deserved £7K a week.
He’s really throws a spanner in the works because for 2 months of the season he’s shown himself to be average PL standard arguably deserving £60K a week.
The big issue with Lunny though is that he‘s only delivered the top performances for 2 months and in the last 2 months his form has dipped somewhat.

We don’t even know if Lunny is a top player or whether he was a 2 month wonder....is Lunny good enough to have a long spell at PL level?

I would offer him a realistic amount....probably £15 to £20K with loads of performance related bonuses built in.
‘It depends what our alternative options are....suspect Lunny could get more money going elsewhere but he risks his career stalling then returning to league 1.
He could choose to chase the money but needs to be mindful of a similiar choice facing Jordan Slew and look how his career collapsed.

Whatever our average wage is, stick him in that bracket. Take the average of Basham, Freeman, Robinson, Stevens and Baldock and give him that

Definitely wont be on 10k a week now, hes not had a new contract since he joined us in league 1 so the jump is already huge
