Reactions last night

I was struck by the reactions of both sets of players last night after the game. Wilder, Fleck and McBurnie all came out and admitted that we were below par, especially in the first half. Whereas Rice and Moyes seemed to think that they had played well. I personally thought West Ham were poor going forward, only being able to punt long hopeful balls in the direction of no-one in particular or hit the deck whenever they actually got to the ball in front of our players. I actually thought Rice was going to cry during his "Kevin the teenager" post match interview. He was obviously annoyed about the disallowed goal - presumably because it was the only time he did anything of note during the match - but he even admitted that the ball hit his hand. As for Moyes, he just insisted that he thought it was a good goal, presumably it being ruled out is fake news. He clearly belongs in the Allardyce/Warnock school of refusing to take any responsibility for his teams poor showing. I would be seriously worried if I were a Shammer and my managers plan for the season was to try shithouse nil nils. It's not surprising Wilder has signed a new contract whilst this clown will struggle to stay in a job until Easter.

Second rule. Don't walk out in a huff if the opposition score in the last minute. How far had fans gone before VAR had over ruled the goal?

Considering where we are in the table, where they are and how tough we are they can see how they would be happy with how they did. We deserved the win though.

Since our relegation in 2007 West Ham have spent 11 of the past 12 seasons in the Premier league. Millions upon millions of £'s has been given to that club just on that fact alone.

We've had a completely different 12 seasons.

So much talk nowadays about money rules football.

Roch. I thought they played well for around half an hour in the first half, movement, passing and with pace, they controlled the midfield and looked dangerous until they got in front of goal, I thought our first half performance was the worst at home this season, just didn't look anything like our usual confident selves, even when we have lost we have played well, second half better but I still thought we were not on our usual game, big, big three points last night

I found the interviews with Rice and Moyes a bit bizarre. Rice saying he never considered the contact with his arm and almost bursting into tears. Did he not know about the rule change? Did he not know that all goals are checked by VAR? Where's he been for the last 6 months? I said at the time, I don't understand how a player can know what he's done and celebrate the goal like that without even thinking it might be ruled out - I think players are still doing the "pretend I didn't do anything wrong and they won't notice" that they've always done with refs - hello, they have cameras on you - I don't get it.
Moyes too, it's as if he doesn't know about the rule change. I can fully understand them saying they don't agree with the new rules, I don't either, but that's not what they were saying. Moyes kept repeating that it was a good goal. I really can't understand what he's on about.

I think at one point he suggested that it was only when discussing it with our players during the pause, and the fact they’d said even if not deliberate if the ball touched his hand it’ll be overturned, that it sank in. Is it possible Pellegrini just didn’t bother explaining the rule change?

I completely sympathise with those thinking the rule is stupid. But not knowing about it is bizarre.

Tbf, since 2010, the majority of the money has gone in Gold & Sullivan's pockets.
Our 'net spend' on players is surprisingly low.

I thought Rice came across quite well, to be honest, if a little over-emotional. He did mention that it was correct by the letter of the law at one stage, I'm sure.

I liked Rice using the full range of adjectives at his disposal. He said that the West Ham players were livid and fuming. It could only have been better if he’d said they were mad with rage.

We’re better than them. We were below par, they were above par, we still deserved to win.
