EC came to Anderlecht from FC Malines. He is unspectacular but solid and got his first cap for the Red devils last year, when our major defenders (Vertongen, Alderweireld, Vermaelen) were injured. I can imagine Van Winkle will be the one who’s put him forward. But there’s nothing wrong with saying he’s a good player come and scout him. Then it’s down to scouting team to inform Chris whether it’s a yes or a no.

Ive never seen him play or even heard of him before linked to us. But going into a foreign market is normally where you try and find value for money as the players are deemed cheaper.

10m buys you some good championship players so if it’s correct he has to come in and perform. With him competing with JoC he has to be exceptional to even be able to push him.

I believe it came out in the High Court proceedings that one point of contention between the parties was that a planned expansion of our European scouting network was scrapped against Abdullah’s wishes. That’s an area that I remember he said he wanted to develop when James Shield had that big interview with him after we left a League 1. We are potentially seeing the first test of this – Verrips was always a very cheap low risk punt, but throwing an amount at a player that would have been a club record a year ago is a different world for us.
