Ignoring the wind up thread further down the forum do people think billy should stay here and play a part or get first team football elsewhere lower down the leagues
Personally id love him to stay and help us stay up and be part of another successful season under wilder and ultimately if like him to become part of the coaching staff but the guy deserves to make up his own mind

Let's help him with a poll

Selfish Blade in me says stay as 4th / 5th choice as everyone loves him in the club.

If I was Sharp I’d probably go, loads more games to play and goals to score. He’s not a premiership player but he’s still a very good player and goal scorer for the right team

Stay. You keep people like Billy Sharp at the club, no matter what the cost. If he's happy to continue having a bit-part role in the first 11 then we absolutely need him here even if it's just an influence in the dressing room.

Get him going with his coaching badges & his first student can be Didzy. Double shooting lessons for the rest of the season!

Similarly to Wilder I’d want him to stay, unless he wants to leave. He’s pretty much earned the right to do what he wants if you ask me.

We can’t guarantee him football, if Celtic can and the interest is real I’d be really surprised if he’s turned the opportunity down.

I'd say stay from both our perspectives. I'm one of those who think he will have a limited role but a role nonetheless. No reason he can't score big goals for us in the future. From his perspective he's on a good wage, presumably settled and obviously loved by many.

Keep him if he wants to stay, Jags is more of a bit part player than Billy and is older and I haven't seen a poll for him yet. These players are good to have around the dressing room I'm sure.

At the same time if he wants to move and play games then we shouldn't stand in his way. Just make sure he goes somewhere that ensures he never plays against us again as he's nailed on to score if he does.

I've voted "Dunno" because I don't know. I don't know what his circumstances are and whether he's been told by Wilder that he's got an increasing chance of starting games or whether he's been told by Wilder that his chances are limited. If it's the latter, then he'd be stupid not to go, because he can probably get himself a fairly decent big money move and carry on playing first team football for someone else. Or, he could have a crack at a foreign market, like China, where he'll get paid a shitload of money that will see him set up for life, if he isn't already set up for life.

In terms of what I'd like to see, I'd like to see him get some regular starts in the first team because I think he would score goals more regularly than most of our "strikers". I do appreciate he's not going to go on forever at his age, but he still looks in good shape and I think he makes a great contribution when he comes on to the pitch. That header v Man City was just superb - it was cruel luck it didn't go in - a fluke almost - but the way he got himself into position and launched it towards the bottom corner with his head - that's the sign of a bloke who instinctively knows how to score goals.

If I'd seen Billy regularly at this level I might have a better idea of whether he is actually capable of cutting it in the Prem or not now. But I honestly don't know. I don't think any of us know - because the lad hasn't been given that chance yet. I've nothing but praise for Wilder for everything he's done for our club - but I do think he's wrong to keep leaving Billy out - especially when we are missing so many easy chances to score. Maybe he'll give him a run of games soon?

“Come in Billy lad, take the weight off. Glad you’ve popped in was gonna have a word anyhoot. Listen. You know about all the 52 clubs interested in you this January, well I’ve had a thought. If I pedal this line to the media and anyone who asks about it that I’m leaving it up to you, then I don’t have to try and save face later about getting rid. You dig me” ?

“But ......”

“No buts Billy lad. You’re a club legend. Egan told me so, and I can’t be seen to be forcing a club legend out the door. Not good PR. My stock is high. Why rock da boat. No it’s decided. You’ll continue to play 5th choice and, well, whisper this quietly, if I can’t offload Leon this window then that might change an all. Your missus likes shopping on match days, dunt she ?”

“Kin ell gaffer .......”

“Thanks for popping in Billy lad. Glad we got that straight. The next time I hear a knock knock, Lennon and Bielsa will get to know about it. Have a nice day Billy lad”

“Thanks gaffer”.

We should ask the Clash?

Aye I'd agree with this. I'd love him to stay, I think he's still got a role to play (and he's looked decent when he's come on), great time to be a Blade and all that.

But if he's got the chance late in his career to play in Europe and in front of 60,000 every other week, I couldn't fault him for taking it. With how he plays and the chances they make he'd score tonnes and make himself a hero up there. I think I almost wish it for him.

From the clubs point of view I think he deserves more minutes, especially over Robinson.

But I put dunno because if he wants to start games, he should be allowed to move on without any hassle. He's earned it

To me and I've said this before, Billy has to be part of the long term future of the club in terms of coaching / management. We have loads of teams he can be involved with U16's upward and a bit like Morgs used to be, involved on a match day. The same applies to Jags. It's a great opportunity to have a Blades legend who bleeds red and white continuing his career with us. It's also a great opportunity to create a continuity backroom team that can take over when CW is tempted elsewhere or retires. Until then he can offer what he is now and play as long as possible.

Stay until the end of the season. He’ll get some game time, might bag a couple of goals. Then go to a championship club in the summer and help them get promoted.

It always amazes Bert that people think because somebody is a good club servant and scores a lot of goals that they can become a successful coach or manager.
He does seem to have a desire to coach and I think he’s done quite a bit with kids. I’d have no objection to the club helping him to complete his badges. If he shows a real aptitude and he’d be an asset then it would be OK to give him a job, if there is one. If he wants to be a manager, he should do his badges, maybe work for a season or two as a coach and then go and manage a lower league side, learn the job.

He wouldn't need to cover anything up.

Worked for Baldock!

No they can't but:

If Jags and Sharpe want to stay and get involved encorage them, build that bootroom. Only Wilder will know if it is working or will work? Trust him.

Someones got to take over after Wilder retires with his two European cups.

Fagan and Paisley won more than Shankley and its unberlievable that no club has ever followed that model - madness, even Liverpool themselves fucked up for 30 years moving away from it.
