No they can't but:

If Jags and Sharpe want to stay and get involved encorage them, build that bootroom. Only Wilder will know if it is working or will work? Trust him.

Someones got to take over after Wilder retires with his two European cups.

Fagan and Paisley won more than Shankley and its unberlievable that no club has ever followed that model - madness, even Liverpool themselves fucked up for 30 years moving away from it.
Alternatively, they wouldn't have got very far with Ian Rush in the Boot room

Fagan and Paisley didn’t play under Shankly though. So what exactly is the model you refer to? If we were copying Liverpool of the seventies Knill would succeed Wilder and then someone like Prestridge would succeed Knill.

and Man U wouldn't with Bobby Charlton.

Its down to the management team to drive it but without trying we'd never know. Just ammazed that no club has ever tried to copy it.

The model is to carry on from within.

Who the supersedes the manager each time will be down to who the manager has in place but if ex players want to go into coaching/management, are taking their badges, love the club and don’t take the first offer to move on that comes their way I feel we should look at it.

As I’ve said previously, I’m gob smacked no club has copied the Liverpool boot room model and even Liverpool have suffered for 30 years by moving away from it.

Just feel its an opportunity we’ve never had before, surely worth looking at.

My two penneth, Billy should stay I've followed his career and his time a BDTBL this time has been great he has been shipped out twice before and never really given a chance. When United go to grounds like Man Utd, Arsenal and the like just remember without Billy you'd still be going to Peterbro', personally I'd like to see him end up as a coach say teaching upcoming forwards.

Plenty of clubs have tried to promote from within though. It rarely works. So that suggests to me that what happened at Liverpool isn’t a ‘model’, it was a unique set of circumstances that would be almost impossible to emulate.

It’s worth looking at what continental clubs do, particularly the German, Spanish and Dutch clubs, who do try to utilise the experience and knowledge of former players, not only as coaches but as administrators, executives etc. Ajax are a good example of this.

As much stick as Chelsea got they sent Lampard out to learn his trade and circumstances have meant that he's back there pretty sharpish despite underachieving at Derby. Terry will end up there one day when it goes tits up for Frank. Gerrard will end up at Liverpool but not until Klopp's gone and they are desperate to keep the fanbase onside. Solksjaer is back at Man Utd more out of desperation than anything else. Arteta at Arsenal is another desperate attempt to halt a slide.

I'm with you on the coaching/other role side of things. He doesn't have to be a manager but he can still be around the club. It's either that or spend a lot of time in media roles, which I think he's well spoken and bright enough for, but it's a bit like admitting defeat if he does that.

The be all and end all though is that he's not done as a player yet, when he is he'll tell us and if he goes elsewhere he will do so with 100% support from 99.9% of Blades.

I maybe wrong but who are these 'plenty of clubs'?

Can't think of any.

Sharp's influence is 'huge' - Wilder

Sheffield United
Some more meat on the bone of the Billy Sharp situation via the Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder:
"He has an important part to play - and has played an important part with the pressure he has put on the strikers," said Wilder.
"Young strikers as well. How good is it for the likes of Callum Robinson, Lys (Mousset) and Oli (McBurnie) to have Billy to learn from?
"From my point of view, the example he has set, and is setting, and the influence he has on those young players is huge."
Didn't think he would want him to leave!

The question seems almost silly when we played him for half an hour against Liverpool. We didn't do that out of sentimentality, we did it because that's our squad and he's a part of it.

You only need to look at how quickly we've gone from three keepers down to one, or look over to Villa and see how quickly injuries can stack up, to know that we need a squad. No doubt, if we stay at this level and keep signing players, an aging striker like Billy will move further down the pecking order, but right now it's a total non-starter for me. Maybe if we sign someone solid we can talk about it.

WILDER: SHARP FUTURE IN HIS HANDS

Sheffield United
boss Chris Wilder will allow Billy Sharp to make his own decision about whether or not he leaves the club this month.
A handful of Championship sides have enquired about the availability of the Blades captain, who has started only one Premier League game this season.
“I spoke to him about three weeks ago about it, knowing what would come up in January,” said Wilder. “And rightly so.
“If I was in the Championship and needed someone to give us a boost in January and score us some goals between now and the end of the season and saw that Billy Sharp wasn’t playing at Sheffield United, then I would be asking the question.
“Always the decision is with Billy. Obviously from an individual point of view, Billy is disappointed he’s not playing. The decision is with him and if he comes to me and says he needs to be playing then I will respect that.”

I don’t think it’s my job to do your thinking for you and I don’t really care enough about the topic to have an argument about it.

the role that sharp is needed for was seen in the first game away at Bournemouth - so haven’t we known all season what the answer to the poll should be, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him play at some point Friday night - I’m biased, I’d start him and mcgoldrick then switch it at half time when he’s ran his knackers off..

My opinion when I saw the team last Sunday was that he would be starting on Friday. I can't see another reason for leaving him out.

I can’t either - blotted his copybook with Southampton and put himself down the pecking order (got a bollocking too) but we can do no worse, and they know each other inside out as forwards go, if it’s not working we change it at half time, nowt to lose have we..

Thought exactly the same. It surprised me, but then I thought Friday would be a good game to start him in. Though I thought the same for Newcastle...

Why?

Sharp is needed here and he is still getting time on the pitch even if it as a sub.

He made an impact coming on against City and was unlucky not to score.

Also, as Wilder says he is a big influence in the dressing room.

Take it you’re implying “why” as to starting sharp ?

We can’t finish the chances that are getting created, sharps a born finisher, we could be 2 up by half time if he gets on the end of things, plus didsy has a good understanding with billy. Might just help him cause he needs it.. run his knackers off first 45.

Switch to mousse at half time, switch didsy for mcburnie at 60 when he tires..

Any good as an answer ?

No...

Got sent off didn’t he ?
Ah. Yes he did. Totally forgot about that.
To be fair I tried my best to forget the Southampton match after 5 o'clock so my brain had really done me a favour.

Thanks for bringing it back up, mate :)

Wasn’t intended at a dig at sharp, we’d been crying out for him to get a chance and he did really well then a poor challenge on half way line and he was straight red, wilder did make a few comments and he was out for three games, mousse stepped up and the rest was history..

No probs bro !

Unlike some players Billy is not a petulant child he knew the score at season start, if he goes he goes. would much prefer him to stay Billy is a club man not a 1 man band led by his family and stupid favver.
