He’s been fairly complimentary when he’s needed to be.

But Liverpool have been so much better than us tonight, not sure what you expect him to say

This. Liverpool deserve the verbal fellatio they were getting.

We've had so much praise from all bar a couple of pundits this season. It's been almost uncomfortable.

Carragher celebrates every time Liverpool score. Doesn't stop Sky employing him. But Phil Thompson in that bracket too.

It must be something about Liverpool pundits.

It was a complete Liverpool wankfest tonight with awesome Liverpool stats getting thrown out every few minutes. I can accept this as they are quality but not sure about the why don’t Sheffield United press talk after 15 minutes. Your a footballer you should know it would have been 4 or 5 tonight if we after them that early

Jim Beglin really didn't want us to do well either, sounded like a bit of a ego-ridden tit.

McManaman is biased but tonight Liverpool were miles better than us. He called it how it was. We love it when all these pundits talk about how well we are doing and get enraged when they criticise us. Tonight we looked a nervy promoted side who struggled to even stay in the game albeit against the best side in the league. Not sure why we can be mad at the pundits when Liverpool had more passes than any other team has ever had in the Premier League. They salivated about Liverpool as they looked a different level to us.

I think my bugbear is that, McManaman shouldn’t even have the gig in the first place. It can’t be hard to find a neutral co-commentator. I have no issue with anyone saying how good Liverpool were tonight, but when you clearly support the side you’re commenting on, you naturally view the game through that lens. It’s the whole unconscious bias thing. The tone of his commentary was always skewed to however the phase of game was impacting Liverpool. It’s frustrating for fans of the other team.

It's only the same with Sky when they have Neville doing the Manure games and Carragher doing the Liverpool games. Luckily I've not had to hear either being bias towards their teams against us - yet.

As others have said it's not that hard to get someone who's neutral to both teams, however we'd still be tarred with the 'direct & physical' from the lazy twat that they've got in for the night.

Watched with a Liverpool mate and even he was raging about the shit commentary and puerile meaningless stats they were rolling out.
I particularly liked where McManaman agreed with the commentator before he’d even spoken. That sort of mind reading is priceless

Never mind that, where's your report man??!!!

I've loads to comment on and await yours and my journal record. Look at all those meaningless, random threads which need a proper home, i.e. your match report.

I can cope with getting dicked by Liverpool but having this tuppenny dunce cackling in my ear incessantly on is getting on my wick.

I had to switch over to NBC only for Jim Beglin to be equally as annoying - "Sheffield United will be very worried here, they wanted to play with the big boys, well here you go. This is what you wanted and you're nowhere near"

Fuck off Jim !

I actually thought McManaman was both informed and complimentary about Utd last night, as were Ferdinand and Lord Brown. Owen was (again) clueless, simply echoed others' comments and was only comfortable talking about Liverpool

Biased commentators and pundits is one of my biggest bugbears. I cannot understand why someone with an affiliation to one of the competing teams is assigned to games. I once read an article either by or about Richie Benaud who said he always strived to come across as impartial, even when Australia were playing. If only certain others would following that lead.
