Well i've been through most of it with the Blades but this time is worse than ever.

Is it just me ?.... am i wrong in assuming a lot of long time Blades feel the same ?

No, you're not wrong, but you knew that anyway didn't you?

It's not worse than ever in my life time, never mind you older buggers :)

It just feels worse at the moment because of the few years we've had recently and the elevated expectations.

Losing on Boxing Day and relegation to the fourth were much worse.

However they were one off games and no way was I as bored as now.

Our time under Heath was worse but that was expected as he was a manager I didn’t want [why did they do it again with Robbo] as he had failed so miserably at Burnley and a dog turd could have done a better job.

Now it’s just boring so that makes it feel worse than Heath's time.

I get what you're trying to say, but for me I don't think my expectations of a bit of fight and entertainment are particularly elevated. I don't even think expectations of the play-offs are elevated.

A statement of leadership from KMc wouldn't go amiss whilst we're at it.

I've been supporting about 20 years and I wouldn't say it's the worst it's been, but i would say i am definitely the most bored i have been in that time by a long way. I've never wanted a season to end...ever, but i can't wait for this one to be over, and really hope changes are made then.

It seems worse because it is now and communication and media are more advanced.but get Billy back and Ched firing them in and the world will seem a lot better place [ oh and the pigs down].

Yeah, I see one big change that has to happen prior to either of those becoming a reality.

Thick,wi' some best butter on and a bit of lime marmalade.

Oh,I'm sorry...I thought we were talking about toast.

I'll get me coat...

It seems worse to me as well. But moe than anything its the complete apathy amongst the fans.
I pretty sure we may even end up in a relegation fight next season if something isnt done in time for next year.

I don't think it is as bad as it has been by any means. The summer after the relegation to the fourth division was the low point. The knowledge that we were three promotions away from the big time as well as not knowing what was actually going to happen in the coming season, there seemed to be a real danger of a complete meltdown. The fact that the season turned out to be brilliant lessens the misery of that summer in the memory.

I do think though that a lot of Blades fans of my generation (I'm in my early fifties) and we make up a large proportion of the crowd, now realise that we are not likely to win anything in our lifetimes and are questioning what the hell we are doing with our lives in terms of the time and money we put into supporting the Blades, we are less likely to give the club any benefit of the doubt.

There are two aspects of this to me. On the one hand I still enjoy going to matches home or away with friends and having a few beers, it's my time if you like and undoubtedly the day is better if we win and play well, I don't think I will stop going until I physically can't make it. But on other hand the the intense connection with the club and the mood swings that used to happen dependent upon results are largely gone and the trouble with this is that it is only a small step from there to cynicism and general apathy. So I have to tell myself, chin up, enjoy the football where you can, yell at the buggers when they are crap and don't let 90 minutes of football ruin a good day out.

Paulus - Excellent post mate. Couldn't agree more.

I'm in my mid 40s and been watching this shower since I was 5 years old and what have we won? The County Cup, Yorkshire and Humberside Cup and 4th division. We couldn't even win The Watney cup when it was ours for the taking!!

Let's face it we are not going to win anything ever. I myself prefer away games as it is a good day out - usally spoilt, admittedly, between 3 and 5 or 7.45 and 9.30 - but I, like Paulus am not going to let McCabe and Blamewell ruin my days out.

Like probably 85 clubs in England, we support our team because we got snared young and we are here for life. No-one ever became a Unitedite for the flowing football, (we haven't had any since before Woody hung up his boots) the glory and the trophies. Its all about the small battles, beating the pigs, decent cup runs every few years, the odd promotion here and there. We want better for our club, but for me United is like a child. They drive you nuts and often disappoint you, but then there are lots of moments of sheer pride and delight. I dream of their success, but real sustained, life changing success is for the few, not the many. Despite all of that disappointment, pride, pain and joy, you can't do anything but love them to bits...

it clearly isn't the worst in terms of league position but I've never been as bored and disaffected

It's just you. :)

The first game I remember was our relegation to Div3 in 1988. Been going ever since. So on that grounding:-

If, next year, we get relegated (which is possible). And if, the season after, we're actually struggling to compete in League 1...

...THEN it'll be the worst ever in my experience. Quite a way to go yet!

Selling around 2,000 season tickets so far when you've got 19,000 currently says it all.

It's the 3rd of April. This season hasn't finished yet, so by that reckoning the next one hasn't started, and therefore season tickets for 10/11 will still be on sale unless I'm much mistaken, and I'm not. If you were running a shop and only took ten quid in the first ten minutes of opening you'd not shut for the rest of the day on that basis, would you?

I don't think we will sell as many season tickets for next season as we did for this one, which in part will be down to the economic climate and part due to the disaffection of some. But to despair about how many we've sold this early in the year is extremely pessimistic to say the least.

It's Sheffield United we are talking about after all. The good times are few, the truly bad times are few. We get the inbetween times. No, it's not brilliant at the moment, but it's not Heath/Peters/relegation from Division Three yet, is it?

I'm not dispairing about the figure, I'm hopeful.
A massive downturn will help bring about change.

Do you know this for certain? Or is it mere speculation based on nothing more scientific than a wild-assed guess?
I think that fewer season ticket holders might make McCabe think about the situation, but I don't know this for sure, and I suspect neither do you, unless you are McCabe's confidante.

And you're not.

For me The Blades are a team that have always done things the hard way, but there was always passion and desire, even when times were difficult. Unfortunately KB has drained the enthusiasm out of the crowd with his arrogance and primitive style of play.

I don't mind not challenging for promotion for the next few seasons, if we have someone (not KB) in who can at least inspire what quality we have left in the squad to play football. With the expected cuts in the employment budget, the likelihood is that any new players will be of lesser quality than our current playing staff. So I think it is essential that we have a good motivator as our next manager.

I cannot see much difference between the football that Robson produced and the drivel that Blackwell is serving up. I understand he's done well with results % wise, but I cannot remember being this bored whilst sat at BDTBL. The place is like a morgue.

Post from Willie Carlin, yesterday I think. Figure was up to the Scunny match, something like 1,700.
I imagine they've been deluged with applications since then.

A massive downturn will result in an even lower wage bill regardless of who the manager is.

I was in the ticket office yesterday and was told that season ticket sales are slightly ahead of where they were at the same point last year.

No, you said a downturn would help bring about change. I asked how you knew this for certain. You haven't answered this yet. And I mean knowing for certain, not speculation.

I really wish people would stop putting this down to our 'expectations'. It is simply shit football

I agree with you in one sense, but in the other expectations have been raised by Mccabe quite a lot, he is very good with his patter, a charmer some of the financial circle call him. They always say money talks and bullshit walks......

Money talks when you use it wisely, but problems come when you bullshit people too much, in the end if you conduct yourself in a certain manner, investors walk away in their masses.

A little tidbit, Investors from abroad are wanting in on footy clubs, but too many chairman aren't being too honest either, especially the lower league ones.

its not just you...feeling totally disaffected, disappointed, let down..apathy is here...
season ticket will not be renewed...
a change of manager could cause a re-think but I think most people will just buy their season tickets again, yet cant be bothered to protest against KB because they know nowt will happen...

;) thar better not say too much !

It's based on a radical theory that if no-one goes, the club will consider why this is.
