Hard as it is to look past the stupid offside rule (it isn't VAR to be fair, it's the rule) and the complete and utter incompetency of the referee to apply the laws of the game, every Blades fan needs to take a moment to reflect on what we just witnessed. Our "pub team" - mainly built on misfits and freebies with a lower league rough n' tough manager - just played the champions of England on their own patch and, at times, dominated the game, deserved at least a point and we saw one of the all-time great Blades performances from a midfielder who we signed for free from Coventry City. On a free. From Coventry City. Not a massive one for "Look how far we've come" but tonight I am going to make an exception because we have done something that, even three years ago when we beat Northampton in the last minute to hit the summit of League 1, was absolutely unthinkable. Our proud away record may have come to an end tonight but I have never been prouder of a Sheffield United team. This is the best SUFC team I have ever seen, maybe the best post-war team that Bramall Lane or even Sheffield has ever seen. It's easy to feel downhearted tonight given the way we were screwed out of the result by incompetent officials and incompetent law makers but I refuse. This football club is going places and I am confident that if the board backs the manager properly and allows him to keep improving things the way that he wants to, we are going to play European football in the 2020s. Maybe even win the League Cup or the FA Cup.
Up the f***ing brilliant Blades!
