Charlie Webster on Chris Wilder

She overlooked or disregarded the details of what was far from a black and white case. She wanted him to be as guilty as possible.

Nothing was going to get in the way of her 15 minutes of fame. And quite the spectacular little crusade it was. Hope it was worth it for her. Because she outed herself in a big way.

How she now has the cheek to talk about the club on any platform is extremely distasteful, and quite embarrassing for her. That would still be the case even if she had anything worthwhile to say.

Then made herself look look like a complete fool once everyone found out she likes convicted rapists when it suits her career.

You mean the Tyson tweet that she apologised for and says she regretted posting? Remarkable that within a debate where so many were eager to accept that people make forgivable mistakes that there’s an inability to accept that she made a genuine mistake.

She apologised for it, so what? That doesn't change how she went about the Ched case. All that tweet did was just undo all the moral grandstanding she had been doing on national TV.

Why didn't she resign when we signed convicted sex offender and woman beater Marlon King in late 2013?

What should be remembered is that Ched Evans was responsible for his own downfall, he put himself in that position he could have just stayed home but no made a pigs ear of his career. She gave her opinions when we took him back and resigned form a post IMS she's entitled to do so, let her jump om the CW bandwagon they're all doing it.

In August we were as popular as a fart in a spacesuit everyone outside from Blades said we were down, no point kicking off we've rammed them words down people's gobs and proved them wrong. Now you'll find everyone wants to be our new best friend, and we are media darlings ATM if not VAR darlings lol.

Surprising really as you would argue King was a much higher profile player with mutiple convictions.

“Woman criticises football club - Once sent foolish tweet”.

The near religious judgementalism that crops up whenever Webster is mentioned is more predictable that the sun coming up in the morning. Apostasy! Judas!

Jehova’s Witnesses treat heretics with more forgiveness than this. I wonder if they too trawl Twitter feeds for evidence of previous ethical inconsistency? They’ve clearly lots to learn from us.

Nice to see a touch of misogyny in the thread too. Always adds to the flavour of a chat involving rape and abuse.

It's no wonder you dislike her if you believe all the complete shit in this post.

So, several men on this thread whose posting history shows they have obvious issues with women—and particularly with women who (horror!) dare to involve themselves in football—don’t like Charlie Webster. Well, there’s a fucking surprise. 🤮🤮🤮

Go on name names and show the proof.

Can't play the arguments so try to play the posters instead.

I have zero problems with her, in fact I wish damn hard she would give me a problem.

Moaning all season about not getting good publicity, now we’re moaning about the good publicity coming from the wrong person.

Some people live in a very weird world if they get riled up about what Charlie Webster has to say about the Blades.

God help us if Bean comes out of the woodwork any time soon. Probably won’t be called a ‘slag’ though.

There’s only one person who damaged our club with inappropriate behaviour. And it wasn’t Charlie Webster. Never mind though , it’s brave to call her a “slag” on social media? Really?

Careful now. You don’t want to be seen to be ducking the issues and playing the posters.

This is becoming ancient history.
A) Evans wasn't very good.
B) He made, to be charitable, a big moral (if not legal)mistake.
C) He's financially more secure than probably most of us on here.
D) His girlfriend stood by him.
E) Charlie Webster is a Blade journalist who has made the odd misjudgement.
F) Charlie isn't the devil incarnate.

Let's leave it now.

Difference is she was clearly using the situation for her own gain. That is where I think the line was crossed from being a fan to not being a fan in my view.

Then made herself look look like a complete fool once everyone found out she likes convicted rapists when it suits her career.
Well said.

Well he never used a rape case to sell himself.

They both damaged the club. Ched because he started the shitstorm by sleeping around and her for joining in the media circus while it suited her to do so.

Both are history in my view.

I fail to see how she used it to sell herself?

She spoke out against a Blades player who was found guilty of a criminal offence (at the time of her speaking out).

All the Cheddites hate her but apart from that there’s nothing wrong with what she did.

Other than looking a massive hypocrite for fawning over one of the most well know convicted rapists in the world and completely ignoring us signing repeat offender Marlon King (someone who most of us fans didn't want to sign).

Like I say the Ched case was just to suit her own career and to hell with Sheffield United.

I have no feelings either way on this matter, but tv appearances come with a fee? Articles you write come with a fee? The more exposure you get yourself, the more money will come in? The more instagram followers you get, the more companies want you to pose with their shit, for payment?
I imagine that's what people mean when she sells herself, or calling her a (media) slag etc.

She said she’d resign from the charitable community trust if the club welcomed Evans back. Her reasons for this were very clear. At this point Evans had not shown any remorse for his actions or contrition that he’d done anything wrong. We had our fans signing that he “shags who he wants” and even worse twitter comments of “he rapes who he wants”.
The club ignored her ultimatum as well as the concerns of other Patrons, sponsors and MPs who also vocalised them to the media (but they’re blokes so we’ll ignore them), and she followed through on her word.
She didn’t want to represent the club in the community if that’s what it stood for, iand why should she, in what was a voluntary role?
Its good to remember at this point that there was no good reason for the club to resign Evans or even let him train with us. We owed him nothing and his unprofessional behaviour had cost us promotion, yet we had him back opening up the club to all the media criticism. The men that made those decisions and own the consequences aren’t criticised for their actions which directly caused them.
The person that resigned from her non paid position of a patron of the community trust, was called slag, whore and received rape and death threats and now years later is called similar things because she dares to continue talk about the current situations at her club.
Oh but she once made a ill-advised tweet about Mike Tyson. One which she regretted and apologised for but she’s fair game and just out for herself.
Therefore it should be fine for men to ignore her actions, thoughts and opinions and discuss her as a purely sexual object. Calling her slag, suggesting she’s “selling herself” or being a ”media whore” as she’s clearly just doing it for herself and her image.
As I mentioned a few weeks/months ago on the Lawro thread, when purely incidentally a female with an opinion on something to do with football was being reduced to being discussed as a sexual object. There’s some real knuckle dragging cuntery on display on certain threads.

I don’t think anyone has called her that name with the word ‘media’ in front of it though have they?

She’s a journalist, she wrote/spoke about something topical at the time. Close to her as it was about her football club and sexual deviance.

I don’t get the excessive hatred towards her.

I’d imagine she felt similarly about King to most other fans. Maybe she offered to write about but it wasn’t newsworthy enough? Who knows?

Better to just assume it was all for her own benefit though and getting all wound up about it.

That's how I read it anyways. Like others have said, if she really was such a spokeswoman for all of these things, she was very quiet when King was signed. Suggests that either she doesn't follow United closely, or, jumped on the Evan's stuff to make some cash.

I can’t recall fans chanting anything about King shagging who he wants or glorifying his behaviour, which was one of the major concerns she raised.
Out of interest was she in that role when King was signed?

I think quite a lot of people are missing out on the fact that the club's community foundation invited her to be a patron because of her profile on which they wanted to capitalise, rather than some self-aggrandising self promotion on her part.

And if anyone has particular views on all women and football, they're more than welcome to share them with me directly. I find this an interesting parallel to the racism thread...

Or saw it as a good opportunity to raise the profile of an issue that she felt strongly about. Much easier to assume sinister motives though.

Didn't King go about punching a woman too as well as groping her? Quite close what Webster is involved in. You'd think she'd at least tweet or something (I don't know if she did or not, but I'm sure someone would have provided he evidence if she had).

I just think people jump on the two faced nature of it tbh.

I just wish people would leave it alone. If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say it.
