The day that we start to think a game is won before it even starts is the day we start to falter. In other words no, foot on the gas all the way, if we get beaten so be it but we must make teams really work to put one over us & not make it easy by fielding a weaker team.

One of the toughest games of the season coming up after watching them stuff Man Utd today. New Manager bounce again.

It's daft given our position but it is a big game. Not because there's pressure on it right now but because, even as good as we are, the following fixtures are insane. A trip to Liverpool and Man City twice mixed in with Arsenal away and Wham. Taking a point or two from those five games would be a decent return and keeping the Newcastle game in mind we could realistically come away with 0 points without doing much wrong. A win against Watford means we could go through that worst case scenario and still not have any pressure on our standings.

Not like I'll be worried whatever the result. It would set us up very nicely for the second half of the season though.

Watford winning might just have done us a favour and help stampout any potential complacency.

We know we will have to play well to get the 4 points on BD, whereas maybe there might have been a touch of 'turn up and we get 3 points' attitude from some of the players if Watford had been royally stuffed today.

United turn up and be professional on BD, we will win imo, and all 3 points in the Premier League are huge. No matter when in the season they come.

If we win, we're safe imho. No way we fail to win 3 games until the end of the season to hit the required 40 points.

Will still be a tough game though, and we need to go about it like we do every other match. Total commitment and professionalism.

The overwhelming majority of ‘must win’ games are nothing of the kind. We lost or drew two or three of them last season [remember the embarrassing knee-jerks and foot-stamps from the granite-skulls?] and still won promotion comfortably.

it’s a silly fans’ fallacy concocted and repeated endlessly by silly fans.

Brighton apparently were fantastic against Palace in the game immediately before they played us.

It’s all on the day. Always was; always will be.

Blades 7 Ipswich 0.
A week passes.
Crystal Palace 5 Blades 1.

Another fans’ fallacy, I’m afraid.

Yes - to give Wilder more leverage for his January demands and as others have said due to the tougher run of fixtures coming up.

1-0 scrappy win, winner comes off Didsy’s arse. Labelled an agricultural victory and I’d give a massive 🖕 and wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Not to forget that ALL teams have an off-day against us, so we'll be fine.

In all seriousness though. Watford for me are still in a false position. I think they're better than both Villa and Norwich. We can't be complacent against them.

Get the 3 points then we have two free-hits to some extent. 31 points by New Year would be truly magnificent. Then navigate through the turbulent month of January picking up whatever we can before we get back to a run of games where we can look to take some points again:

Palace (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Brighton (H)
Villa (A)
Norwich (H)
Newcastle (A)

Take a point against Watford. They're in a false position and Pearson is the sort of hard-nosed porker who'll relish coming to the Lane.
The table doesn't show it but reckon one of the toughest games of the season on the horizon.

Pearson won’t be playing. He can’t score. He can’t stop any goals. The firmness of his nose and his relish are immaterial. When the whistle blows his players will give no thought whatsoever to his Pig connections. Neither will ours. They’ll be too busy dealing with the immediacy of a dynamic game of football. Another silly fans’ fallacy.

We play all the other teams twice, Matt. So do the said other teams. We’ll finish where we deserve over the full season. It will be far higher than any of us thought and feared. This is no fluke. We won’t be “found out”. There’s no secret about to be discovered. No bubble about to burst. Astonishing though it may seem, we have a very fine team, well equipped for the Premiership and a top class management team. We’ll be playing 17 of this lot again next season. Bollocks to the other as yet unknown 3 who prove not good enough. For what it’s worth I think one of them might well be Bournemouth. Ultimately football teams, like water, find their level.
