Charlie Webster on Chris Wilder

To be fair to Charlie Webster, she's a campaigner for womans aid and was groomed and abused by her coach when she was a teenager. Whatever your thoughts about Ched Evans, you've got to at least admit she must have had a bit of a conflict of interest consdeiring at that point, CE was still a convicted rapist.

The hatred sent her way by some of our fans is embarrassing

Agree.....some may say she saw an opportunity to further her career at the expense of negativity towards her club.
However Paul Heaton is of was a massive Blade and didn’t need his career advancing but he still publicly spoke out against the club he loves.
Everyone has different emotions/ experiences/ opinions about the Ched case so it’s probably best not to judge other people’s viewpoints.

She had no conflict of interest when she was fawning all over woman beater and rapist Mike Tyson, it is OK when it suits her agenda it would seem.

As far as I can recall Heaton didn't court any publicity over the Ched case. He was asked about it on Breakfast TV (could be wrong) and replied that Ched should be allowed to resume his career, but he said it might be best for all concerned if it wasn't at the Lane (paraphrasing).

Bit different to Webster, whose gushing Tyson Tweet exposed her hypocricy, and who said nothing when we signed Marlon King

Regardless of her history and some peoples opinion of her personally, it's another story putting us in the spotlight for all the right reasons.
We have got the potential to be the story of the season, and also introduce some honesty into the game.

“Woman criticises football club - Once sent foolish tweet”.

The near religious judgementalism that crops up whenever Webster is mentioned is more predictable that the sun coming up in the morning. Apostasy! Judas!

Jehova’s Witnesses treat heretics with more forgiveness than this. I wonder if they too trawl Twitter feeds for evidence of previous ethical inconsistency? They’ve clearly lots to learn from us.

Nice to see a touch of misogyny in the thread too. Always adds to the flavour of a chat involving rape and abuse.

Did Heaton say anything about Marlon King? Didn’t he resign as a patron over Evans?

The club should have steered clear of Evans with a massive bargepole, am I not a fan?

No, that makes you a "slag" amongst other delightful things mentioned on this thread.

I didn't see anyone accusing Adrian Durham of immoral attitudes to sleeping around when he said misguided things about us, but women are fair game apparently.

She had every right to voice her feelings and dissasociate herself with the club. Considering her personal experience I would have expected nothing less. However she showed a startling lack of intelligence by showboating herself all over the media about it, without first checking her own twitter history.

I also didn't see anything from her when Evans' was ultimately acquitted. She could have maintained her postiton that the club should not have re-employed him whilst his conviction still stood, but simply acknowledged that the justice system that she had so much faith in the first time around, had now re-assessed the evidence and found it unsafe.

For that reason I haven't got a lot of respect for her.

I’ve told you, I think it’s because we were in league one and no one gave a shit. it also didn’t have the media profile of Evans trial while the club was dragged through the mud and then still brought him back. Was Ennis linked with the club when we signed King, was she asked, was Heaton? I’d suggest not.
However you were clearly insinuating something else, yet you don’t seem to want to clarify. Will you now do so, or were you being a twat?

Er... unfortunately we were in league one when we signed King and still in sodding league one when we offered Evans the chance to train. You're right that King didn't have the media profile as I have previously stated, then questioned why this was. Why wasn't she asked about King, and why wasn't Heaton et al?

Ennis was linked with the club, in fact Marlon King scored a goal right underneath the stand named after her with the crowd cheering:

No I insinuate nothing, merely question why King got such better treatment from our patrons. Perhaps you are insinuating that the patrons didn't particularly care about anything except negative publicity which is why they spoke out?

(* to be clear that doesn't apply to Webster who has been through hell. No hatred is acceptable, however it doesn't mean she is beyond all criticism.)

Heaton did choose to make the headlines https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-30087979

Again he said nothing when we signed Marlon King.

For me, I'd like all the former patrons who resigned over this to keep a low profile, as they have done right until we are now 5th in the Premiership.

Are you suggesting that Webster has just not commented on United since then? Because that is pretty demonstrably wrong. And every time she has done in the last 5 years, she’s inevitably attracted abuse. Just because this particular comment piece is somewhere very visible doesn’t mean she’s somehow hid away.

That there is insufficient evidence to prove guilt, does not necessarily mean somebody is innocent.

I'm not saying that Ched is innocent, or guilty. But the events of that night were not great & there is a lot of doubt in my mind as to whether he was innocent, or guilty. For that reason I don't like to definitively declare him as either.

Just that, on the facts that are known, he acted poorly & let a lot of people down.
If people were being tried in the court of moral righteousness, rather than a court of law, there wouldn‘t be many people walking the streets.

Not sure what point you're making, or how it relates to the point I made?

All this brings back the ridiculous “Jessica Ennis” stand. You would have thought with McCabe being a businessman he would have looked for sponsorship, but no, he preferred to bask in the reflected glory of someone who had little interest in the club. One of many things he did that backfired on us, the daft old coot.

His morals may stink (and I don’t understand why his fiance stayed with him), but he had his conviction overturned, correctly in my view. That case should never have gone to court. It said more about the political aspirations of the police and CPS than it did of him.

Can't give this enough likes.

Agreed. Like I say, she isn't a fan. No fan would kick the club so much when its at its lowest like that.

Like I say, she isn't a fan.

Well despite your view, she clearly is. She’s also probably not going to stop being a fan, so fellow fans should probably get used to that, rather than revisit old arguments with a Bigger Blade mentality every time she dares to comment. There are plenty of fans on here, including myself, that shared her view on this particular issue at the time – and didn’t shy away from being vocal about it – and have never had anybody question whether they’re a fan or not.

Why can’t people just accept it was a difficult situation at the time for fans, the club, and people associated with the club, and put it behind us, rather than cling to some sort of bizarre loyalty for a player that gave us almost one good complete season out of the five seasons the club paid him for?

Difference is she was clearly using the situation for her own gain. That is where I think the line was crossed from being a fan to not being a fan in my view.

Then made herself look look like a complete fool once everyone found out she likes convicted rapists when it suits her career.
