Blackie on RS and he doesn't get it does he?

You don't make Billy run the channels, you play him in the fucking box, O'Driscoll has proved this.
 

There are a lot of hypocrites on this forum.

When Sharp was first loaned to Doncaster nobody batted an eyelid and most people were glad to see the back of him. I distinctly remember him being criticised week after week with comments such as "he tries too hard" and "he just can't cut it in the Championship, League 1 was his level". People were saying that it hadn't worked out for him at Bramall Lane and we should move him on as quickly as possible.

But now he is scoring regularly for Doncaster it has suddenly become all Blackwell's fault even though most people would have done the same. Pathetic.

People have such short memories.

I was disappointed when we first loaned him out because I thought that we hadn't got the best out of him. I thought that if we would have persevered with him he would have eventually come good and started scoring more goals.

We're kind of in a similar position now with Ched Evans.
 
Hindsight is a great thing. In hindsight, we can see that Blackwell has no fucking clue how to play to a strikers strengths and instead has them chasing down channels and defending on the edge of our own box when we lose the ball.

You'd have to say on reflection that Sharp did look like a league 1 striker with us because we weren't allowing him to play his natural game. If we'd have tried it out we may have found out we had the divisions leading striker on our books.
 
Billy was here for months BEFORE Blackwell came, and did nowt. The problem was the lad was playing second fiddle to Beattie, and we played to Beatties strengths not his.

I suspect that Billy likes being the big fish in the small pool, and the weight of expectation, his own as well as anyone elses, seemed to do for his confidence...

Don't think you could be further from the truth mate. Billy's very much the local lad done good, top Blade and as proud as could be whenever he pulled the shirt on. Any manager with an ounce of nous will get goals from him, any team with a midfield that can pass the ball will, alas we've had neither for a very long time so as nice as it would have been for us, and for him to have been banging the goals in for the Blades, it simply isn't to be.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up, I'm sure he'll have a lot more success than we do in throughout his career.

The major change is that he's now demonstrated he can score prolifically at Championship level. It would be a huge indictment of Blacko and SUFC generally if he were not given another opportunity to do it in a Blades shirt.

It's not too late.
 
Surely what the manager is there for is to get the very best out of the players that they have. Blackie has proven over and over again that he is incapable of doing so, Sharp is the most prominent example of this.
I know Im not the only person who thought that Sharp would go to donny and start banging them in as they as well as scunny have decent managers who know how to play their players to the best of their abilities!!
I do want Sharp to come back to the lane and be given another chance but not if he is going to be used 'incorrectly'.

Its not hypocritical, there is no point having Billy at United if Blackwell is in charge. Although there was quite a lot of comment at the time, mostly positive from what I recall. A lot of United fans seemed happy he was going to get the chance to play and get some confidence back, and yes then it might generate some interest in him. I don't think United fans are against Billy, they just don't think he will make it with us while Blackwell is around.
I'm still not convinced he can become a United legend but you can't say that he can score goals at this level. If nothing else his loan has proven that much and if by the skin of our teeth we make the playoffs, Billy should be included in the squad.

cant believe some of the bullshit in this thread

i remember billy scoring the winner at barnsley and blackwell saying he rated him in the £4m class

as for the talk of him being forced to run the channels and not playing to his strengths ,utter utter bullshit

speak to a donny fan and they will tell you he runs the channels all day long for them

some of you really need to get your head out of your rear end and instead of just slaggin the manager off for any reason you can think of get behind the team and if you cant do that then youre not a blade

Can't believe I'm reading this. You hate Blackwell? Fantastic.

Fair play re supporting the team but it is very very difficult when you consider the ineptitude managing it.
 
A man who sits near Bert in Block B told Bert that he spoke to Billy in a pub in Dronfield last weekend. He asked him when he was coming back and the reply was "Never while he is in charge"
 
Last time someone I knew talked to Billy (just after Christmas) he was waiting to see if there were changes in the summer before deciding what he was going to do. He still desperately wants to make it at the Lane but knows he has no chance with KB.
 
O'Driscoll would cost over £1 Million in compensation, plus what we have to pay Blackie off.

Not much left for the playing budget, would the masses except that?
Also O'Driscoll has no record at a club where relative success if demanded.

That doesn't mean I'm against it but you need to be know what it is you are asking for and what it will mean.
£2 Million out of the window before he has even taken a training session.
 
It would be a price worth paying Bob. In any event, business reality dictates that the figures would be far less than you fear.
 

I think the problem we have to overcome is that someone like SOD will play to a player’s strengths whilst Blackie plays a system.

Cotts struggled with our 'system' as did Yeates yesterday and does Billy.

Just different systems of management but when the idea of football is to score goals and we have the division's potentially top scorer on our books do you change your system? I would but when you have had years of success like Blackie has had [including times with Warrnock] why would you?

I can see both sides and it is difficult for Blackie. It is a decision the club [McC] needs to make but given his appointments of Turry and Robbo don't hold your breath too long.
