I thought he worked hard, menaced Geordie players and got himself in positions where he would usually bury one. He was pressed when he had the ball as most of our players were and that’s why we didn’t score. Newcastle copied wednesdays tactics from the last derby match at BL. Frustrating and annoying game and they time wasted and faked injury pretty much like Norwich. On to the next one and I’d be happy to see Billy on the pitch
 
2 goals from 20 million Quid man McBurnie ..no goals at all from McGoldrick , who apart from 15 last season has never really set the World on fire at any Club ..yet apparently its time to stick the boot into a man whose goalscoring exploits are largely responsible for SUFC being back n the Premier League .... club legend Billy Sharp .. legend being something those 2 will never be ...wow !
Personally , I bet my bollocks if Billy had started every game this season ..he'd have more than 2 goals
 
The Newcastle game was a very difficult one for our strikers up against a packed and well organised defence , not made any easier by our lack of creativity in midfield . In the circumstances , I thought both Billy and McBurnie did themselves justice .

I doubt very much that Moose and McG would have been any more successful , although I would have liked to have seen the latter in the no. 10 role in place of Lundstram who , apart from a couple of nice passes was largely ineffective .
 
To keep with the ill informed theme I just share something a Premier League fan of any other team might/has/will write on social media at any given moment: Sheffield's best player is Sharpe and just seen they've still got Leon Clark!

Sharp hardly put a foot wrong,held the ball up well and was not the worst performer on the night by a long shot.
A couple of those first half chances go in and scapegoats get a night off.

The genuine lack of understanding of what you state in your post leaves me nothing short of embarrassed at some, not all, of our so called support network.

Criticism, especially that which is constructive, has foundation and which has been qualified by informed (or uninformed dependent on your own personal perspective) opinion, and has the clubs best interest at heart, however ill advised is something I’ll always have time for.

Those that prefer to be angry, and spout bile over the internet ........?

Yet if Sharp scrambles in a tap in none of those fucking idiots say a thing. That's the most embarrassing part.

I said the self same thing to my son, people expecting him to come in and get 3 are delusional he will score again but, he knows the craic knew he wouldn't be a regular 1st choice.

Also despite not much game time Sharp still has grabbed a goal this season. Meanwhile Didsy for all his good work hasn’t got one.

FYI I am aware Didsy got shafted on his goal at Spurs though. :)

I think we have a lot of supporters who aren’t that into football, just United.
By that, I mean they’re not interested in watching other teams or listening to the general discussions around football, tactics, formations etc. So they don’t have anything to benchmark us against. They turn up, after drinking a gallon, expect us to beat anyone who isn’t Man City or Liverpool and get pissed off when we don’t. Then go off, drink another gallon and moan about someone missing a shot, because in their world other teams don’t miss shots.
And the next day they fucking moan on about us when they can barely remember the game and say shit like ‘That Lundstram shouldn’t be playing the Duffy role’ and ‘we have no Plan B’ (when we’ve changed formations three times during a game but they haven’t noticed).

Agreed. The number who write off players trying to learn and fit into a new system after a handful of games should be staggering, but isn’t.

Although only a couple of weeks ago I called Fred a ‘comedy player’ which was a bit harsh as I know full well foreign players can take up to a season to settle in. We all need a slap now and again.
 
Think Billy is bright enough to know as he heads towards 34 his days in the premier league are getting less likely.
Depends how much he wants to play. He'd be superb for a championship side chasing promotion . He can if he's happy here settle for cameos and the possibility of the odd match winner. Whichever way he goes I'll be cheering him on.
 
I’m of the opinion he will want to play football.

If Wilder gets a new CF in Jan, he will go (maybe loan).

Spot on pal, some of the nonesense you hear at games is ridiculous. I believe there are levels of understanding the game and some people have a good understanding, they know most of what's going on in front of them. Then there are others who just have no clue but in their head they think they understand. I play Sunday league and I remember one my managers telling me that he can tell that I watch a lot of live football because of the understanding of the game I had. The point he was getting at was that a lot of people watch MOTD and think that's how a whole game goes. Highlights don't show all the other stuff, bad passes etc. Something we'll have to live with I suppose.
 
Maybe Sharp and McGoldrick need some time on the pitch together. Both managed to score quite a few in the Championship last season. Very different players, with different, but complimentary skill sets?
Sharp is still a good finisher, and Didsy is still a thoughtful reader of the game, who provides others with opportunities.
Sharp has usually come on late in the game, when Didsy is going off for a breather, having run his bits off.

I love Sharp and always will, but he lacks a particular attribute that you need to separate and gain an advantage on a premier league defender. They're usually at least a 7/10 in each area of defending. Our style of play works best when we are able to pin their defence back another 5-10 yards to normal to create separation and space for our midfield to play in - something Norwoods passes exploit with opened passing lanes and Fleck's ability to take people out of the game dribbling and playing quick combinations. Mousse works best at this as defenders aren't able to get as tight to them as they can to Sharp who doesn't have the threat of going in behind and therefore we lack fluidity and the ability to pull a defence apart as defenders are able to close the gaps much easier and therefore not allow us the space to play looking slower..but hey Maupay was his replacement and we missed out on him there but thats fine CW AN will have another up their sleeve no doubt.

He has a role to play and I'd have him on the bench until he's 45 as what he's got you can't teach and you don't lose. He's capable of putting one in when were going to need him most and thats not the case for every player we've got...
