In the last couple of games (which we did brilliantly to draw) we've tired badly towards the end. I can only see this getting worse as the season goes on. The forwards are normally both subbed off. Whilst I see the logic in leaving two upfront, as we had the McBurnie chance late on, I wonder if it would be better to sub on Freeman for a striker instead? If we throw some fresh legs into midfield we might do a better job of stopping the opposition attacking. Although, that would potentially result in the ball not sticking upfront.

None of our forwards seem particularity capable of lasting 90 minutes which is restricting Wilder's ability to sub tired players off.

For instance, Lundstram was shattered and gave the ball away badly several times before he came off. In a perfect world he should have been substituted earlier, but if Wilder only has one sub to play with I can see why he'd be reluctant to do so.

In a roundabout way what (I think) I'm trying to say is that we desperately need to get our strikers fitter and able to last 90 minutes to allow us to bring fresh legs on in defence and midfield to help us see games out.

The covering needed against quality midfielders and quick strikers is the reason... never doubt our fitness levels!

We have looked tired in the last two games after 70mins, mainly the wing backs and Lundstram who have to cover a lot of ground in our system. Getting Mousset up to full fitness will help as he has the pace to make teams play deeper which in turn takes some pressure off the midfield. Not sure who could replace Baldock and Stevens to give them a rest they have been that good so far.

Not sure that’s possible.

Wilder‘s tactics put massive stress on strikers... they are forced to work incredibly hard closing down defenders and coming back into defense.
At other clubs they’d be able to easily play 90 minutes....under the Wilder tactics they do incredibly well to last 70 minutes.
I think having our strikers performing extra duties is one of the secrets of our success.

I don't really see why we should be tiring. We hardly ever play twice in a week this season!
I can see with my own eyes how the intensity of the matches are compared with last year but surely normally having a full week to recover for the next game is enough? We seemed to play twice as many games last year and kept it going.

The intensity is a whole new level in the Premier League and mental tiredness is as difficult as physical tiredness. Mistakes get punished and every player has to constantly be on it. Our team doesn't exactly contain a raft of natural athletes.

I think it's likely we'll have a difficult second half of the season in the same way we did after promotion to the Championship. We're playing against teams of athletes every week and players are now more likely to be on international duty. It will take us some time to adjust.

Wolves are a cracking team, they made us run about more than any other team.

true99blade has explained it for you

Wolves kept the ball and passed it very well.

They had us running around in circles all over the pitch.

That's much more tiring than keeping the ball and passing it.

Don't forget we're playing against massive spenders with some top players. Wolves have paid up over £165 million in the last 2 seasons compared to our £35 million. We have to run about more to negate their class.

Teams at this level pass too well for us to press so high for a full game. That and we have to be a bit more respectful and defend deeper. It's not any lack of fitness, it's the quality of the opposition.

I think I'll leave it to Wilder to decide. He seems to be doing ok so far.

I think you're confusing different things here mate.

First of all, it's natural for all players, of all teams, to tire towards the end of a match. Especially at the kind of pace we normally play at. I do not see any evidence of tiredness affecting our results in recent games, including today. Indeed, probably the most intense, fastest paced, game we've played all season was last week versus Man U. And we didn't concede 3 goals in 7 minutes because we were "tired" - and neither did we score the equaliser because they were "tired". That's just football.

I thought most of the players made very poor decisions today from the first whistle to the last. The passing was poor throughout and at key moments the wrong ball was played. Zero to do with "tiredness" in my opinion. We were well under par today and the fact we came away with something just underlines what a good team we are.

I don't know what level of fitness you are proposing when you say that we desperately need to get our strikers fitter so they can last 90 minute? They are fit and they can last 90 minutes. But they will play under-par from time to time and today was a day when many of them were not quite at it.
