Bash and Billy League appearances

If Billy doesn’t play against Wolves and presuming Bash does, Bash will equal Billy’s total league appearances for us with 224.

I can remember seeing Bash play central midfield for us once early doors after we signed him. He was reckless in the tackle and constantly gave the ball away like it was a hot potato. I was convinced that he was going to be a huge donkey.

How wrong was I. Love the guy.

I've always described him to mates as a key player for us that no one else would ever be interested in signing, but we'd be devastated if he left. A solid 7/10 performer. Never the best player on the pitch, never the worst, just a consistent solid player.

I was worried about him making the step up in the summer, but watching the pre season training videos Basham and Didsy were running rings around the younger lads. Their fitness levels are unreal.

I used to describe him as a ‘nothing’ player in that he rarely had any impact on a game. From the start of Wilders reign he went from useful off the bench to first name on the team sheet. It felt like he was more like a consistent 8 in the second half of last season.

He was never one I had a go at because you could always see he was giving it his all but I never saw us getting out of League One without replacing him. I always saw him as having the typical utility player problem of not really being good enough in any given position. We've more or less crafted a role he's perfect for and now you wonder where you'd find such a strong all-rounder to fit in our system.
