Roy's View From... View From The Neutrals

But with these Fererro Roche Mr Roy, you're really spoiling us!

Particularly enjoyed this one:

“Man Utd making the Blades look like Real Madrid.”

“I think it is more Sheff Utd making Man Utd look like Southend”

Then there was the Villa fan with:

“I’m stunned by Sheffield’s start to the season tbh, I didn’t think they were anything special at all last year, but Wilder has done a cracking job.”

Not special? They were favorites to go up and over 2 legs we put 7 past them!

You can tell we're really making an impression because the number of fans actually calling us Sheffield United rather than just Sheffield has risen dramatically since the last neutral view from.

Still a few stragglers but when we turn liverpool over at Anfield we'll get the whole nation addressing us in the proper manner :)

“Chris Wilder is one of the best managers ever, fam he got my hometown promoted with some dead wood players”

Wants to look at himself. Why are you supporting Liverpool rather than your self declared home town club you fucking nonce basket?
I didn't know he'd taken Montego bay into the Jamaica super league.

I can only presume the Villa fan (and i've seen a few comments like his) didn't go to either of the Villa Blades games because for 170 mins we absolutely pummelled them. The first half at home was as good a footballing lesson as I've seen.

I thought I'd never see us play a better half of football than Villa at home last season.

Then Sunday happened...

Lazy thinking this second season syndrome, though it does have some legs and has happened with a fair few clubs in the past.

However, they don't have this squad of players, this manager....and a lot in their second season get complacent and buy a fuckton of foreign mercenaries.

Spot on that. The biggest problem teams make in their second season is replacing too many players in the summer. When you bring in 5-6 replacements you're starting from zero, as they don't know the system, their team mates etc. All it takes is a few early bad results and heads drop, confidence goes and relegation beckons.

Other than his first season, Wilder has never made wholesale changes every season and we've reaped the benefits.

He won't splash the cash unless he feels a player really does bring something to us.

Mousset has surely got to be one of his greatest signings, and Wilder has one hell of a list to choose from.

It is a myth. Look at Burnley, Watford, Wolves and Bournemouth and in earlier years Swansea, Stoke and West Brom. The only side I can think of who had a great first season then dropped are Reading under Coppell. People talk about Hull but they finished 4th bottom. We might finish 4th bottom and next season struggle but that would be expected. If we finish top half, nothing backs up the idea we would struggle the season after.

I think Ipswich might have done it when they were last in the premier League.

Might be wrong, but I think they got into Europe in their first season, then got relegated in their second season.

All Premiership Clubs other than Southampton who didn't seem to care

Brilliant cheers Roy enjoyed that!

Thought Billy had a bit of a cold never realised he'd fuckin died

I like how the Bournemouth fans are trying to get some credit for moose and what's that wolves fan on about? We didn't create many chances in first half? We had 5 shots on target in the first 25 minutes!

Bournemouth fan clutching at straws there. Moose was mostly injured and when fit still barely got any game time down there.

They were signing strikers that were in the pecking order ahead of him.

Fine work once again Roy .

I don't want to put the curse of the commentator on you but I have the distinct impression that you're starting to get the hang of this . :)

Cheers Panchero!

What a time to be a Blade............

A lot saying we're one season wonders, when will they ever learn ?

Agree with this. Very lazy.

For every promoted team that suffers with "second season syndrome" like Hull, Huddersfield and Ipswich for example, there's probably a number of examples of promoted teams going from strength to strength, e.g. Burnley, Stoke, Leicester, Southampton, West Ham and Bournemouth just recently.

The odds, I would guess, suggest that United - should they maintain this and finish top half - would do the same again the following year. And, considering what we all know about Wilder and the way he continually improves us, we'd probably do better. If I were a betting man, I'd expect us to finish higher in 20/21 than we do in 19/20. Wilder is the key behind all of it.

Wow Roy - quite a volume there.

So our secret is finally out. Cold wet Sunday in November, we’re the only game on TV and we perform like that.

It’s like a really hot woman moving in next door - you take her on country walks to nice quiet pubs and fuck like rabbits for 6 months. Then you take her to the work Christmas do, she performs a few gymnastic moves on the dance floor and everybody wants her.

You’re very proud, but a little bit apprehensive that things will never be quite the same.

Brilliant, thanks! You must have made some of those up, surely.

"Is it too late to start and support Sheffield United?"

No. Never too late!

Some very complementary and humourous comments regards our match on the Sunderland main forum

If you have the patience, Click link to see 14 pages of the matchday thread regards our match with Man Utd.

One comment that made me laugh was something like

”I’m watching a team in red and white stripes, play great football in a packed noisy stadium and keep dreaming its Sunderland playing“
The next comment is something like “Sheffield United are light years ahead of us”
There’s another one that says “and to think we were in for Chris Wilder when he was at Northampton but our fans said he‘s no good and didn’t want him”
Followed by “Look what we missed out on....Wilder must be the best manager in the game”.

Some real gallows humour on that forum especially with their team struggling so badly in league 1.
When they’ve had 6 consecutive years in league 1 (like us) then I’ll start feeling sorry for them.

BEST VIEW FROM EVER Roy - thank you. It really fills up my senses that, to see fans of traditional top 6 sides saying this is how they want their own teams to play... I'm speechless.

“I’m stunned by Sheffield’s start to the season tbh, I didn’t think they were anything special at all last year, but Wilder has done a cracking job.”

Rich coming from a Villa fan. he really can't have seen us last season. In 170 out of the 180 minutes we played against Villa we played our best football of the entire season!

You can add to all these neutral fans expressions of shock and surprise the views of the majority of Blades fans. I can forgive the neutrals as they have not had the advantage of watching us week in week out since Wilder took over, but Blades fans have no such excuse - shame on you pessimists; you should know better. One of the worst is Deadbat, whose ability to sum up a football match leaves me stunned with admiration. Me - I'm just an optimistic Blade whose watched more than enough football at BDTBL over so many years now I think I've developed an objective sense of how good or bad we are relative to standards prevailing in whatever League we compete in.
Happy as I've ever been right now - will be even happier if CW signs another Moose in January though....

This thread is shit I recommend the football pundit par excellence Danny Mills if you need a scientific analysis and if you need any more clarification try Garth Crooks all ‘played’ at the highest level.

You can't trust anything Crooks says. He is from a long line of halfwits. His parents can't even spell "Gareth"

Ipswich finished 5th in 2001 and qualified for the UEFA cup, which may well be the highest ever finish since football began*. It went so well for them, that they were relegated the following season!

* In 1992.

Looks like we are nearly every fan in the country favourite or second team. Bonkers.
