Terrible opening post. But I can see why Chris Wilder will be overlooked for the very top jobs. He has enjoyed a lot of success in his managerial career, but most of it has come lower down the pyramid.

He's had a great start to life in the Prem, but that's all it has been - a great start. He hasn't had any experience with big transfer budgets & foreign markets, he only has limited experience in managing foreign players & managing highly paid big egos, etc.. if he keeps this up, before long, a tier 2 side (in terms of size) will come knocking for him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Leicester come in for him if Rodgers gets a bigger job for instance. If Wilder proves himself at that level, then he may enter the equation. But he won't jump from us to the top 6 without a stepping stone in between, unless he turns us into that stepping stone by consistently over achieving with us for 2-3 seasons (6-10th place finishes with a small, but growing, budget, whilst playing attractive football).

We all love & rate Wilder, but it's too early to confidently be saying he's ready for Champions League level stuff.

For Tottenham presumably? Tongue in cheek I think. But it is a good point that they have completely overlooked him. Long may it continue.

I think we're the culprits for suggesting him for all these teams and for some bizarre reason we seem to get annoyed that he's overlooked.

We're also like this with our players for their respective nations when they dont get a call up.....desperate for Egan/ Fleck/ O'connell to start or be called up yet desperate for them to return injury free.

I appreciate we want the best for our players/ staff members....butI'd rather us go under that radar like we are.

A lot of good English Managers that have come up through the leagues will be over looked, in favour of there more illustrious counter parts in Europe, I think a lot as to do with Premier league snobbery, and a fixed ideal that English Managers do things in a British way which is the old dinosaur ways of football management.

which is utter tosh, a few have tarnished the many and as we know football cliché is still very much in vouge within football, Personally long may it continue as Chris and Alan will be over looked as Spanish, German, and Italian's get the jobs and of course the special one and a few from South America!

While we can keep hold of one of the brightest stars to ever shine in terms of football management in this country, we will reap the benefits, not some other club, A when English managers fall back into Vouge as they realise sacking hiring and then sacking again don't work, it will be the Eddie Howe's that will be looked at as they will be in the category of long term Premier manager, and at some point some big wig will look at it and say, you know what that Chris Wilder as done it at every level and Always improved an got better and better, maybe he is worth a punt, by that time hopefully we will be in a place where who ever takes over will be able to keep us in the fine fettle we are currently and I think will be in for some time.

Me too...although I don’t think we’re under the radar anymore. Maybe in the sense that people are fully expecting us to drop down the table at some point, but we’re definitely a known quantity now.

And neither was Eddie Howe... take your blades specs off for a second... and let's realise that Eddie Howe is more proven so far in his career, he has done League two to PL in 5 years, and kept them in the PL for the past 3 seasons, probably going on 4... very credible record indeed... yes CWAK have an equally amazing track record up until now in the lower leagues at various teams... but they have not established a PL side YET. They have also not managed with a large budget or the excessive media scrunity that being at one of the 'top 6 teams' brings.

However confident we are that this is not a purple patch for us and CWAK, the PL will continue to believe that it is for now, and long may it continue... I want at least an FA Cup and CL qualification before he leaves!

Said it before I will repeat it!! All these posts about him being pinched , why would he go anywhere he will be getting well paid and has plenty to achieve with us.
Ok ' we will never be as big as the man utd's of this world but CWAK are doing a great job and will try to take us as far as they can on a much smaller budget than the so called super six.
Great challenge to beat the odds and take us into champions league. Not now of course but what a challenge that is.

Bournemouth were a Soviet backed financial powerhouse throughout that rise through the divisions. That made the job a tad easier.

Also don't forget Howe's more than unsuccessful stint with Burnley.

Foreign managers like Hassenhutl, Gracia, Sanchez Flores, Sarri, De Boer, Silva, Puel etc. All failed, some multiple times, however what differentiates them from domestic managers is the fallacy that they're all innovators, tactical genii and seen as something far more intelligent that what we can produce on these shores.

Fact is they're no better at all.

Christ, the highest profile of them all was bringing this 'Sarriball'. We endured a season of it and still no fucker could work out what it actually was.

I think ‘soviet backed powerhouse’ is a bit of hyperbole, I’m not convinced Putin told Maxim Demin to buy a house on Sandbanks, then take over Bournemouth so as to destabilise our economy. ‘Backed by a wealthy Russian’ would have sufficed.
Of course, Howe also managed Bournemouth when they were skint and did a pretty good job but what is the job spec for a top six side? I’d suggest part of it is the ability to spend money. So I don’t really get this idea that a manager is somehow inferior if they can’t manage a team on a shoe-string budget. It’s a different job. That’s why Man City went for Pep and not Warnock.

oh definitely an easier task, no denying that the budget he was provided has been a huge help... still... on paper he has done it consistently for 8 years+ now, and has generally been able to demonstrate his ability to spend a large budget wisely and receive good transfer funds in return too, ideal for a team like tottenham really.

No dissing on CWAK here... but they haven't yet proven their acumen with a large transfer budget at their disposal... so far this season £40m spent and 1 starter comes to mind!

You could look at it and say he's outperforming expectations with a largely championship/league 1 squad.

The players he bought were to strengthen the squad and he's done that. The two strikers brought in have still contributed, even if it's small amounts. They'll come good eventually and have years on their side.

Maybe When we stick 5 past Newton Heath on Sunday, the vultures will be out for Ole - Wilder is now on their radar so a £30m a season 5 year contract might tempt him. As blades we know we are a bit Yoyo so for what he's done for us i wouldn't begrudge him being in charge of a club that can give him a £500m budget. HRH will then go for Poch.... Maybe.

Agreed he has outperformed expectations, no one can argue against that... but if you are tottenham et al looking for a top manager, you want someone who has proven they can spend a large budget previously, CWAK havent quite done that yet, but of course why would they have done, it is their debut PL season

I also believe our summer acquisitions will come good... but so far they have not... let's see this time next year!

If we were to finish ahead of Bournemouth, you'd have to assume Wilder would leap-frog Howe in the manager hierarchy.

Yes, Howe has done a wonderful job, but Bournemouth's progress since there first season hasn't been phenomenal.

Wouldn't read too much into Howe's time at Burnley, most managers have the odd blip on their CV, shouldn't invalidate their other achievements.

Also, as BushBlade says, Howe pre-dates Bournemouth's owner, and miraculously saved them when they were in financial dire straits.

The funny thing is Mourinho is the biggest dinosaur of the lot. His style of play hasn't been relevant to modern day football in the premier league for at least over 5 years.

I can only speak about German coaches as that is where my experience is. I would say they are defensive first and pragmatic after. Nothing really revolutionary. They are hot on fitness, food, physiology etc, again, nothing revolutionary. Many modern British coaches are all those things. It was Klinsmann copying Ferguson's fast transitioning football that led to the post 2006 German success. Klinsmann managed to get all Bundesliga teams to follow this approach, no mean feat. I don't think that could happen in England to be honest.
I spoke to a coach/manager of a second div team here who had looked at SUFC's games in the Premier League. He said. "its amazing, they attack with nine players, then 10 seconds later they are defending with 10. They keep it up for 90 mins. I don't know how they do it". He thought it would be hard for any team to follow our lead as we are now so good at it, other teams will always be playing catch up and unlikely to risk it. Just as the Blades reputation for hoof continues, so does the kick and run perception of British coaches. I suspect many coaches from all over are looking at us and how we play. I will be interested in seeing how much recognition CWAK get when it is inevitably copied. The first coach with a foreign name will be credited with it, you watch. On another note, personally I will be interested in seeing how Mourinho sets up against us.
