Don’t know why but it reminds me of the time we were playing Man Utd away in 1990 after winning promotion. We were losing 2-0 when a dickhead shouted ‘Bassett out’. Reply was ‘Fuck off cunt, who do you want, McEwan?’. I think what I’m trying to say that this is the best side I’ve ever seen at the Lane. Cherish every moment, remember where we were with Adkins. We’ve just gone toe to toe with the Champions League finalists and should have won. Fifth in the Premier League, FIFTH. I know I’m rambling but I don’t give a fuck. I fucking love the Blades.

John Harris produced a great team from lower league average players, as has CW.
The football back then (because of the pitches?) was a bit more up and at 'em, with good skill and a lot of physicality.
Modern football may have lost a bit of the physicality but the speed, athleticism, first touch and ball control of CW's team is streets ahead.
I did see (and loved) Woodward, Currie et al, and though they were good and exciting times, the modern lot are (imo) a different class

Weds had a great side that year (hate to admit it). They finished 3rd and as Bruce says would've won the league if we hadn't beat them home & away but this is a different level to then. 5th in the best league in the world.

what You have to remember is that years ago all the good sides we had and played against, were from the same pool of players, these players we have, are playing against arguably the best players in the world.

I don't think they're saying the 96/97 side is better, just that that's the next most comparable side.

For what it's worth I agree with you. As good as that side was, they were still playing vs Championship (then Div 1) teams. We're playing vs all 4 of the European finalists from last season and have taken 5 points off them so far and could've had more.

This team is by far and away superior in every aspect.
