Wilder won't take less than 1st right nowI'm not sure Wilder would take it.
He will take every game as it comes but I'm sure in the back of his mind he will be thinking higher than 17tb
Remember hull having an absolute stormer of a first half season and either going down or staying up by the skinof their teeth
Iām sure if you asked Wilder if he wanted to win the league he would say yes, although he would of course be realistic about it. His main focus is always who we play next though.Wilder won't take less than 1st right now
Heās allowed to be disappointed, so are the players, we should be appreciative of what theyāve done for us. Staying up means we get another Ā£100m and an extra year of parachute payments should we go down. Thatās vital in our current situation.Chris Wilder will be disappointed if we finish 17th.
I think weāll need reinforcements in January whatever happens. Some players will lose form. We saw that under Warnock, you see it happening to other teams.Man City away to Man City at home is horrendous (on paper, at least). I dont like to jinx anything, but a major strength for me is our settled side. But a couple of injuries here, the odd suspension there (bound to happen with the stupid yellows doled out) and weāre plugging gaps. Not to say the players coming in wont rise to it, but its a slight concern. If we did have any issues going into Jan, we can at least bring in reinforcements, but December is monumental; if we carry on as we are and with the fixtures we have, we could legitimately be around 30pts by the time we go to the Etihad.
If we stay up, then for me it would be even bigger than getting up. Not just in the achievement, but everything else; financially, commercially, recruitment wise and perhaps most importantly- retaining players/staff. It could set us up for a generation.
So to answer the question; yes, Id definitely take 17th, but am quietly growing in confidence that weāll do quite a bit better.
Youāre confusing the supporters with Wilder and the team. I donāt for one minute think theyāre targeting 17th. That doesnāt mean we shouldnāt be satisfied with it if thatās where we finish.I have never actually considered 17th slot since we were promoted.
If you're happy to settle for 17th before the season starts then you'll achieve 18th or 19th
Totally agree- I just meant if we HAD to lose anyone to injury, rather it be after Decembers games and at a time we could do something about it.I think weāll need reinforcements in January whatever happens. Some players will lose form. We saw that under Warnock, you see it happening to other teams.
Calm down, 24 points still needed and every game will be difficult in this league.
Millwall were top of the division in December 1995 and got relegated at the end of the season. We were high in the table in November 1980 (not sure if top 6)Makes me wonder....has anyone been relegated when being 6th in November.....?
Question for Silent possibly....
Don't think it's negative for fans to say they'd be happy with 17th. I do expect us to finish higher but wouldn't put any unnecessary pressure on the team.
Those saying you'd be disappointed if we finished 17th??? Get real, even with the start we've had the second half of the season could be mental.
I'd say with the team we have and the form we have I'm expecting big things but if we take a dip and finish 17th I'll still be proud as hell.
And that's nothing to do with negativity it's about as positive as you can get.
itās Bladey Inferiority Complex. Embarrassing.

How ya mean?

Actually I think there are benefits to finishing 10th rather than 17th.Iād rip your arm of as I think the second half of the season will be tougher than the first because sides will take us more seriously and weāll start to get injuries/suspensions/fatigue kicking in.
We could continue our form but thereās not much benefit in finishing 10th to finishing 17th so why not take the guarantee of safety if offered? Obviously, my hope is that we hit 40 points as soon as possible then we can start planning for next year early.
See #44.
We are not in sixth place by accident. Over a quarter of the season has passed. In typically spineless fashion we talk of injuries, suspension, difficult fixtures ahead, losing form as though those factors apply only to our club. Guess what. They are universal features and every club plays the other clubs twice.
Itās absurd Little Sheffielder thinking and itās an embarrassment. It really is time our fans got off their knees and declared some pride in our team rather than wallowing in the affectation of āhumilityā and cap-doffing every other team in sight. Remember how many invertebrates gave up on promotion every time we had a setback last season?
We have an excellent team and superb management. Letās celebrate them rather than seeing ghosts around every corner.
We will finish significantly higher than 17th. Bookmark it.
We could continue our form but thereās not much benefit in finishing 10th to finishing 17th
Thing is, I agree. I believe we will be significantly higher than 17th. On the flip side of that, if the worse did happen and we dropped buy managed to get 17th I wouldn't be disappointed in the team at all.
I'd have faith that we'd kick on the next season. The little Sheffielder thing I can't comment on I'm not sure if your right or not, my experience is that every club has similar trends in sometimes expecting the worst or at least a trace of hesitancy even during good times. I don't think it's just a Sheffield thing.
But going back to my original point, I do expect us to do better but I wouldn't consider 17th a massive disappointment.
Actually I think there are benefits to finishing 10th rather than 17th.
We get more money. Compared with other PL clubs, weāre not rich and we could do with it.
It will help with our recruitment. Better players might think twice about joining a club that finished 17th as they could be walking into another relegation fight. They wonāt if we finish 10th.
But if we end up 17th, Iāll still say āwell doneā.
A whole McBernie? Fuck it then. I want 10th and bollocks to relegation worries. Its about £20m actually.
Nowt to do with it Pinchy. Weāre punching above our weight as weāve always done with CWAK and what that means is weāre getting more out of our resources than others. However to pretend that these advantages of higher wage bills supporting deeper squad depth, and January spending power canāt have an negative affect on us compared to others is naive. We are not in sixth place by accident.
