Evening all,

Good point for the Blades at the weekend, and Roygbiv and I have an in-depth look at the entertaining draw with West Ham here, as Mousset's goal makes those Tevez masks look a little silly(er). We broke down the game in detail (06:16) then also talk about Declan Rice, Robert Snodgrass' latest blinder against us, the power of Roy's Colombia shirt, and Bramall Lane vs the Olympic Stadium (49:25).

Finally, some memories of games v Burnley, including Stan Ternent vs Neil Warnock, and a look ahead to the game itself (1:07:17).

Sound should be a lot better this week, I don't know what happened last week (i f*cked it up is what happened, apologies) - thanks for listening and UTB!

Is it this one? I own this one...might join you if it works against Burnley...unless they’d cancel each other out?! Or maybe mine has finite power to use when yours runs out.
Or maybe it’s bollox and we’re actually just a decent team who can get results without the influence of magical South American football shirts...not worth chancing it though - get it worn Roy.

Mine is a long sleeved version of that. Like you say we may just be a decent team but I can't take that chance

I’ll leave it then - nailed on defeat if someone’s wearing a short sleeve Colombia shirt.

Thanks gents.

Anyone else having trouble playing this after 32:48 though? Keeps cutting off for me.

Cracker this one boys. Beans Roygbiv but I’m not having the Robinson header chat, I really think any sort of slight diversion from the keepers hand would be enough to take it from his forehead to the, well, corner of his head, even McBurnie, Egan or O’Connell wouldn’t have put that away imo

Fair enough. I've just found a proper clip of the replay and watched it a few more times in slow motion. I guess what you can't really tell from that behind-the-goal angle is how much the deflection moves the ball laterally (as in, away from goal, rather than up/down) so yeah I've been a bit harsh there. The ball IS very close to Robinson's bonce when the deflection happens so absolutely no time to adjust at all. And if you're a semi-regular listener you'll know how much I like when strikers get in good positions even if they don't end up taking the chances ;)

I haven't heard from anyone else saying similar and it seems okay to me - are you listening on Apple by any chance? I've had this happen to me while listening to much more professional podcasts on occasion in the past...

All good now mate thanks. It kept happening when I went to soundcloud via the embedded link, but when I accessed via your soundcloud tag it worked fine....if any of that makes sense? 😳

Grest listen as always. Thanks

You really hate Robinson don’t you, Jesus Christ talk about a scapegoat.

Who, me? Really? I think he's done alright. I said on the pod before Arsenal that it's not long since he played a blinder at Chelsea and he also did pretty well against Liverpool. I was excited when we signed him and he's not quite lived up to expectation so far... but we've had 10 games.

To be honest, I think I'm more optimistic about him than most, at least from what I read on here.

Think that's harsh. I can't disagree with most of what they're saying.

And like Ben says above, they're much less scathing than most on here.

I have to be honest, excitement level in pre season to what he's showing now is a bit worrying as it's a vast difference.
It's a long season and a steep learning curve but what I can't get my head around with him is the sheer amount of pace he seems to have lost. He was absolutely rapid for Preston before his hamstring injury last season and it's a big worry for me that those yards of pace seem to have just disappeared. Aside from that he just doesn't impose himself or get involved in games, Saturday he was terrible for that.

I absolutely detest him. 5/10 I gave him last week for his season so far. Hatred.

I think singling him out for ‘not booting the ball away after being caught offside’ before we conceded is unnecessary criticism. We know he’s struggling but he’s being played out of position which you’ve mentioned on the pod before.

It felt like you were being uber critical and nit-picking at his performance.

Tbf you weren’t as bad as the fella next to me at West Ham, maybe I felt I had to leap to his defence after enduring 90 mins of someone blaming him for absolutely everything.

I think part of it is he’s being played out of position. We don’t really play with wingers so can’t play him in the same way Ireland do. As you say he’s not enough of a presence up front to make a defence scared. He’s better running towards goal than playing with his back to it but this seems to be the way we want him to play.

The comment about him not standing in front of the ball leading up to the goal I felt was unfair given what happened between that and the goal.

I did say we were nit-picking and being hypercritical at the time. Fair enough if you don't think it should have been said at all, I was kind of bringing it up as a hypothetical "what could have gone differently" really, and I found it an interesting angle to think about generally in terms of gamesmanship / game management in terms of stopping teams taking a quick freekick / getting an advantage from when the ref, well, plays advantage. It wasn't intended to be specifically about Robinson in a "can't believe he didn't stop us conceding that goal" way. Your mileage may vary on whether it actually was interesting :)

In fairness I did say that it's easy to sit there in hindsight and say he should have booted it away as it wasn't something I picked up on at the time. It was only after I saw the highlights that I thought about it. Then Deadbat mentioned it in his report and I thought it was worthy of discussion. I'm certainly not out to get at him. I think he's been a disappointment but it's very early to write him off.

Great pod as always cheers , if you ever want to pm me the best links you find for away matches I won't complain !

Think the Robbo's comments on the pods are fair , he has not been that great since Chelsea and has not had much impact in games
Also the point about giving the ball to their keeper which led to there goal is a very valid one in my eyes , all things to learn and as CW says it's about being savy to this league and little things can be the difference
, always remember Terry venables throwing the ball to the opposition for a quixk throw in which led to a goal and he got hammered for it ! (think he was Leeds manager at the time )

That’s fair enough. I think maybe because the discussion came not long after the header it felt more like a hatchet job. I agree we need to be a bit more streetwise and I think all our players could do with doing so and I think we are getting better at it.

I do think you and Roy have interesting view points and it’s good to hear things from a different perspective. I actually didn’t mean my initial post to be that cutting, maybe a winky emoji might have been an idea but then again I’m writing this when I really should be working so was typing on the sly.

Haha that's quite alright. To be honest I thought you'd replied to the wrong thread at first :D

Enjoyed as usual, thanks again.

On the subject of players who've played for us and Burnley, Jamie Hoyland stands out in my mind. That 4-2 win they had over us first season back down in Div 1 after relegation from the Prem in 94, they interviewed him after the game on tv and I remember clearly how annoyed I was when he said how glad he was they'd stuffed his old team.

He was fucking awful mate

I had him on my list along with Stephen Jordan but didn't get the time to bring either up. Jordan for obviously reasons.

Listened to the match overview, will listen to the rest ahead of the weekend.

Cant argue with much that was said and it’s interesting to hear the pass stats of the different phases of the game. We really were poor first 35 mins. I slightly worry at the number of slow starts this season. One game will see us out of sight by half time if we keep conceding possession early doors.

Robinson should have buried the header, not scapegoating, just saying what I saw.

It's weird cos last season we started most games like a house on fire. I remember in the pre Christmas games people questioning our fitness as we started games so well but ended up dropping points.

Possession is overrated IMO :D For all the ball they had in that first 25 minutes that I mentioned, they still only managed 2 shots - one from 25 yards, one which was basically sliced nowhere near the goal. I really think this is a strength of our team, that we can keep teams from getting chances even if they have tons of the ball.

The bigger issue (for me) is that we almost literally didn't get out of our half in that first 25 minutes, so we aren't going to score ourselves...

You may not have got to this yet but us and Burnley are averaging the 18th and 19th lowest possession in the Premier League so far this season... so no idea what kind of game we're in for Saturday.
