A message to everyone moaning about us missing chances...

Right. I’m gonna say it. I’m SO pissed of that Wilder brought on Wilson instead of sharp in the derby. I think that was a huge, glaring error in his judgement. As he came on, i was thinking ‘what the hell has he done that for?’ And after the game it proved correct. What a stupid decision. I thought better of him. I’m annoyed.

Oh wait.

That’s literally the only error he’s made in the 3 years of managing United. Grow up. Get a grip. He will get it right, he watches the same game as us. We don’t have a manager that doesn’t see the blindingly obvious and comes out in press conferences after the game blatantly lying through his teeth like a Tory politician. He knows the problems, he will be analysing how to fix them, and will get it right. We’re 7th in the prem and go into November unbeaten away. A result against spurs would see us go into DECEMBER UNBEATEN AWAY FROM HOME. Stop being so negative.

I think, I’m defence of the moaners, we’ve been conditioned by wilder himself to want more, to be better, to not make mistakes, to strive to be perfect. We should be celebrating that, not criticising where we are. Take a step back. We want more because of our manager’s attitude and standards, and we will get more, for the same reason.

The pros massively outweigh the cons. I’m not saying don’t criticise, I’m just saying when you do, try not to sound so much like a spoilt child.

I agree with most of what you say, but I think even Wilder would admit he has made other mistakes, as every manager in history has. One other that springs to mind is the home game against Bristol City when we were down to ten men. Wilder took off Basham for a more attacking player, Carruthers when it was 1-1 and we ended up losing the game. Wilder usually learns from his mistakes though and we became slightly less gung-ho after that game.

People were moaning about this yesterday as well. It was West Ham that missed the chances yesterday. They had more big chances and a higher xG.

People tend to see only their team's chances and ignore the opponent's.

I would just add that there is a difference between making a mistake and doing something that does not turn out to be a success. On the pitch there are 22 players, 3 officials, etc. The manager cannot control everything.

I think the main problem yesterday was that we started with two strikers who don’t seem likely to score at this level. I think that was a mistake by CW and I don’t expect us to start them together again any time soon.

The two in the first half yesterday were in a different time zone, so much too far away to fully deduce how bad they were. That said, Callum's looked easier to score.

Can't speak for everyone, but my frustration is borne of spending another decade of going " what if......" come May if the points they don't win us are the difference.

Has anyone really been particularly over the top in their 'moaning'?

This post almost insinuates that there has been widespread, disproportionate criticism of the team/individuals/Wilder and I don't really think I've seen that (save for a couple of the usual suspects, so what's new?).

Wilder himself said the first half wasn't good enough and specifically mentioned 2 great chances that we failed to score in the first half. Enda Stevens has given an interview where he says that the first half wasn't good enough/we need to do better.

Looks a lot to me like fans and players/management are on the same page really; we're doing well, the 1st half against West Ham wasn't great, the point away from home is decent, but we need to be more clinical.

There are definitely some people who are strangely negative and pessimistic even after all the success we've had under Wilder. I find myself getting annoyed with them but I find it's best to be charitable and assume they're passionate supporters who get disappointed when we're not doing well and/or have been conditioned by years of failure to expect the worst.

At the same time there are people who refuse to hear almost any criticism of the team and who can get a bit mean-spirited or witch-hunty about pursuing people they see as negative. I don't think it's "stifling debate" exactly but sometimes some of us (include myself in this) could do with relaxing a bit and realising that other people's opinions of the game or team shouldn't affect our enjoyment of watching them.

Re. subs., I can't recall a single home game under Wilder where a player has stunk the place out and the crowd were baying for him to be subbed. When we make a substitution, it's either tactical or fatigue. The players simply daren't drop their standards. Sometimes it won't work, but that's not Wilder's fault.

Exactly the Bristol City sub wasn't a mistake either, events just panned out differently.

There's no guarantee that we wouldn't have lost whatever changes he did or didn't make, and you can only make changes based on what's happening at the time not on what happens next.
