Second game I ever went to, aged 9, was Wendy at Lane on 5th April 1980. Sat in South Stand paying more attention to my match programme than the game and when McPhail scored, the bloke next to me smacked me in the side of the head as he got up to celebrate.

The game where unfortunately Terry Cuntwit equalised for them.

Stans at Townend don't think he had any scissors just clippers n a cut throat , but you got a toy soldier when you left so all was good .

When he’d finished your short back and sides he would always ask if you wanted some fertiliser on so that you’d come back next week. It was in a big jar next to the mirror and it was plastered on until your head set solid and had comb marks on your head like a ploughed field.
There were three of them cutting hair, Stan, the old man and the young un.

To my eternal shame my dad used to take me to get my hair cut by John Fantham.

Not footy violence related and don't know what's made me think of this today .Used to sit in blut as a kid in the 70 s and whenever the Kop used to sing I used to sing along whole heartedly .Anyway singing along as I was and crack round the back of my head from my dad ( RIP BEST MAN THATS EVER LIVED ) " don't ever sing that again " still no ldea what I had done but turns out we must have been playing wolves or Bolton and I I was happily singing
OH WANKY WANKY
WANKY WANKY WANKY WANKY WONDERERS
🤣

well this brings back painful memories. Again no hooligan related comments (although I do remember once being chased down Shoreham Street by what seemed like a Zulu-esque number of Newcastle fans!)

My first ‘hit’ at a football match was in fact by Clive Best, the West Ham striker. I was in my usual position of third crush barrier from the front of the kop behind the goal as we were playing the shammers. He let fly a rocket shot which happily missed the goal but sadly hit me full in the face. I literally saw stars and the shot completely flattened me as a 10year old child. As I lay on the kop steps coming round, my abiding memory is of one of a fellow, much older Blade looking down on me uttering the immortal words “..gerrup kid, tha’ll be reet”

I’d like to say that I have used those words as a metaphor for life but the truth is the tw*t could have at least offered to pick me up!

Leicester City at home. The Currie "kiss" game. Punched in the bollocks on the Bramall Lane, John St corner inside the ground. No segregation then. Leicester fan squeezing through the crowd just punched me. I was only 15 at the time
Also got kung-fu kicked by a Coventry fan as I walked to the ground.

I have been hit on many occasion at the lane but usually by my friends or should it be fiends? (given the time of year ...compredez)?

To my eternal shame my dad used to take me to get my hair cut by John Fantham.

I used to go all the time. Great fun, a bit of baiting and knowing they would always bite. Usually got my hair cut by Steve, the Polish one. I knew loads of Blades that used to go in there. Besides, Fantham was a top bloke.

Got my scarf and hat nicked by a hooligan outside the John Street players entrance after the Newcastle match in April 1st 1972. My dad got furious when he found out (he missed the incident as he had been collecting his car to park it on John Street while two older girls were looking after me) and stormed into a minibus to get my scarf back (it wasnt the same scarf as the one as I had but I was proud of my dad!)

That was the game my mate got knocked down kop steps. We got to top of kop, took a few strides down and a big arm appeared with a black glove on and connected with him. I managed to get out of way. He was massive with a crombie on and a beret. Geordie bastard.

Posers club. Genevieve was a lot cooler. Talking of which I was watching one of these shows on TV the other day where some vacuous blonde bimbo is attempting to sell someone a villa in Spain and the client was our very own Max Omar. 86 years old and looking as sprightly as ever and the cheeky devil still had a fit bird in tow. Proper legend.

Ah , good old Max , knew him well . Shades on Eccy Rd. was his first big venture and he brought some great groups there as well as playing brilliant soul and R and B records . ( Proper R and B that is , not the shit that masquerades under that name these days )

Genevieve was named after his daughter and the fit bird you refer to was probably his wife of some 40 years who Mrs . Joe bumped into in town about a year ago and remarked how amazing she looked .

Saw marty Caine there before she made it.

Never actually been hit by another fan but was hit by a drinks can thrown by Leeds fans when they took over the back of the kop sometime in the 1970s.

More recently, leaving the Tranmere ground, a group of kids (aged between about 6 and 14) walked behind me and another young chap, throwing stones at us. I was hit fairly harmlessly on the elbow but they drew blood from the back of the young chap's head. I think he may have been involved in verbals with them prior to tagging along with me, but I'll never know and don't really care

Do you mean this goal , this will bring back the memories ! Started it a McPhails goal for yer

Sheffield derby match at Lane before crowds were segregated. This bloke next to me in blue and white took objection when I jumped up and celebrated when we scored. Bastard! How was I to know he was a Quaker?

That's the one was sure we were going to beat them that day ,had to wait till the 2-0 at the lane which was the first time I had seen us beat them in a proper match ( guessing maybe we had in a county cup game )

Perhaps you should have recognized him from the porridge oats box
