There needs to be an injection of cash, it doesn't have to be massive but enough to get a couple of players in January.

The squad we have is poor and overpaid, wages vs position in the league. If that is all Speed is allowed to work with then relegation looms.

It all went wrong with the appointment of Robson, the pride of McCabe giving the loser carte blance to buy whoever in order to get back to the premiership after he felt cheated by our relegation.

I'm all for having a go but not at all cost. We are in the shit now how much deeper would it have been if we had lost the Tevez case and didn't have TWO wonderkids to sell. Admin perhaps?

Of course we need financial stability but the cost of relegation would outweigh the cost of a couple of players who would ensure our survival in this league.

Now is the time to spend a little money Mr. McCabe. It will be small in comparison to what you allowed Robson to squander. You have given much to this club but took much more away with that ludicrous appointment. Now it is time to give again.

Sadly, certain things need saying over and over again - specifically lack of leadership.
It's taken a while but it's good to see many posters now waking up.

They did not listen, they're not listening still.........
......perhaps they never wiiiilllllll......:dj:

Funnily enough I didn't have you in mind. You've been doomsaying long enough for me to worry when you're not...

:)

Spot on sir, especially this bit;

"I'm all for having a go but not at all cost. We are in the shit now how much deeper would it have been if we had lost the Tevez case and didn't have TWO wonderkids to sell. Admin perhaps?"

You do have to wonder how much shit we'd have put ourselves in without these unexpected windfalls. Credit McCabe for winning Tevez, but he did have an awful lot of mistakes to make up for.

Also;

"You have given much to this club but took much more away with that ludicrous appointment. Now it is time to give again."

For "given" you must have meant "lent".....:D

UTB

PS - I'll call you later in the week.

You do have to wonder how much shit we'd have put ourselves in without these unexpected windfalls.

That is scary. But no-one can argue McCabe didn't gamble on a return to the PL. He just backed the wrong horse*. Make no mistake we'll only get back there with sound long-term planning and good management. The days of buying success are gone unless we get a new benefactor.

And quite frankly I'm happy to be patient and watch the youngsters develop into the players who'll get us there. But then I'm wierd like that.

*donkey

Every Transfer Window since Robbo we have made money, and sometimes raked it in, I dont think we have much left to sell to rake it in again, but I expect a Profit this January.

And so will McCabe.

Speed must have been in on this

And Maryland !!

And why are you bothering about the Blades today, when these guys are playing

ravens%2001.jpg

9 Games available by Satellite in Europe and not one of them are the Ravens

with the current score it may be a good job you can't watch it!!

I don't expect a transfer revolution, but I'm concerned without the aquisition of an above average finisher we might well go down. A measure of how far we've fallen I know, but we desperately need Henderson to return.

Other than doing what we need to avoid relegation, I'm "happy" to wait too. Seeing us try 442 now and again would make me happier mind....:D

I feared for this kind of performance yesterday..... And boy did we get it.

Pathetic. absolutley pathetic.

I think this Jan will be the most important transfer window in many years.
cant see who we could buy with no money.i bet we wont bring anyone in who commands a fee.we r skint apparently

17-10 now. in reality they should still piss it. but i've got them in an accumulator and my money can jinx anything!

Brownie. I just sent you a sunshine band application form by PM!? ;)

It's interesting how one post will get messages of support, even from those who might not be expected to agree and I'd like to add mine.

I'm not suggesting you would, but now you've done it, there's no need to keep posting the same thing several times a day for the next few months, as other, less visionary posters do.

PS Morgs looks about 50, how about you ;-)

I have got to the stage after being a supporter for 64 years that after yesterday and the recent displays that I cannot even be bothered to post on the subject.
Very passionate views being expressed and imho it all stems from upstairs.
McCabe,s vision of being a premiership club looks light years away and probably will never happen.
Unless there are things he is not telling us but deep down I do not believe anything anymore about our Blades.
All very sad really but still deeply concerned for the clubs future.

Spot on

Some excellent points Brownie and sums up much of what I think too.

The squad and the players we have at the moment is the poorest collection we have had for some time. There is little to no flair. No pace. No class. No goalscorers. Just a collection of misfits, loanees (not good enogh for parent clubs) or players noone else wants.

If I go through the squad from top to bottom I struggle to come up with more than 3 or 4 players that I would keep moving forward. If fans had to divide the squad into get rid of as they are not good enough, ok for now and part of the future in three categories; be interested to see who went where. Unfortunately it is not as simple as that as noone would want our players. For what it is worth I would go with:

Get rid / Not good enough

Quinn
Nosworthy
Taylor
Kozluk
France
Calve
Cresswell
Evans
Ertl
Bogdanovic

Ok/will do for now (as in they are maybe are ok as squad players but probably need replacing soon too (on downward; Simonsen, Monty and Morgan or are not going to be here next summer as loanees such as Bartley or out of contract as in case with Henderson, Jordan and Wright)

Simonsen
Bartley
Jordan
Montgomery
Morgan
Henderson
Wright

Part of the future

Britton
Yeates
Williamson (if he ever gets fit)
Ward

.....and then the youngsters we have not seen enough of (Lowton/Slew/James/Chapel etc)

Brownie. Weren't you talking about patience and waiting for it to come good last week?

Welcome back to the club mate :)

Oh, PS I remember a few laughing when I said we were in deep, deep shit at the start of this season. I'll repeat for the sake of those who are mentally impared. If we are near the bottom 3 at Christmas we are absolutely and utterly doomed to relegation. This club is riddled with holes and problems that extend way beyond managers or players.

Stand up Mr McCabe and please close the door on your way out.

lol - got the game on here in Baltimore, looks like they are going to scrape through, the Ravens are definitely the Blades of the NFL..... fanatical fans, not much liked by anyone else, and a team that usually underachieves (hence the laboured efforts against the worst team in the league today!). Trouble is I don't much mind when the Ravens lose but it still hurts like hell when the Blades do, and yesterdays game (shown 'delayed live' over here yesterday on Fox Soccer Plus) was an absolute shocker.

We missed a good chance to have a clearout and start building a fresher, younger squad in the summer. We had a small squad, the loanees were sent back, and a few players were out of contract - perfect for starting new. Instead we gave new deals to players who were already past their peak and decided to base our first eleven on a lot of loans again.

Well, they are off into Overtime, blowing a 10 point lead.

I am on the Ravens Game Thread, I swear I can hear Gunshots

100% correct Bergen, a full clearout, including the whole management team of Blackwell, Ellis and Speed taken down to bare bones and start again. This should have happened at the final whistle on May 2nd, it would have given a time to get a manager in who could then choose his own players and backroom staff instead of which 2 of the 3 who were involved in last years poor season are still there including the one with no managerial experience. I am afraid it wasn't time for a novice when Speed was appointed

Well I can't comment on the game yesterday I was getting pissed at a wedding. I am prepared to be patient but I am getting worried by the decisions to stick with players who aren't performing. I know we are thin on the ground but Cressy has been poor all season even worse than Ched, and believe me I see potential in Ched but he has struggled to show much of it since the first few games of last season and maybe one or two this season, maybe. Nosworthy has been another, I know this has been an injury prone spot but he has made too many mistakes, there are others but everyone has said the names a few times now. I really want us to take a gamble now and blood some of those younger players, I prepared to be very patient and let Speed build his own team but the decision to not get rid of KB earlier to put this change into place is looking like it maybe a taxing one.

Since the start of these season I've always been of the mind that it will be a long hard season, I'm seeing nothing to suggest otherwise. One plus even if I get disappointed by watching the Blades, I get to watch my two teams of under 7's play on sunday mornings and no matter what they entertain.

UTB!

Most pertinent post on this thread from Kent.
We want our football club back. No more bullshit, no more David Brent bollocks about assets, revenue streams, sister clubs, overseas tie-ups.
Just a decent team, some players from our own ranks, some ability, some heart. Most of all some bloody heart.

I don't see how we can be compared to the Ravens when they have actually won something in the last 10 years....

Haha, agreed. Top post Brownie. Completely agree, even if I am a "clapper".

The tactics are one key problem as Cresswell is played on the wing - his least effective position. He should be in the middle - run his knackers off then get replaced by someone like Slew to finish them off.

On this point. having read various messageboards and reports of the game, I have a strange phenomenon to report: unanimity. well, amongst Blades fans and journalists at least. Everyone who expresses a view on this point is in 100% agreement.

Is there anyone on the planet save for Gary Speed who thinks that Richard Cresswell should be on the wing? His awfulness in that role is so glaringly obvious, and it happens match after match. (This is a manifestation of my major concern re Speed - he's doing the same things over and over again when they just aren't working. )

4-5-1/ 4-3-3 or whatever the hell it is we're doing has got to go. If we have to play Cresswell (and sadly, there's not much choice), put him up top. you lose nothing because his contribution in his current role is embarrassingly bad. Anyone who thinks we should stick with these formations would be well advised to look at the goals for column in the league table.

When I saw Cresswell last season, I didn't think he played fantastic, but his goal contribution was. I wondered though, what would happen if the goals dried up for him, as I didn't see a whole lot else.

With the current formation the midfield and widemen must chip in with goals, and Cresswell scored a good few from a wide position last season. For Stoke he got into double figures and played a big part in their promotion in that role. From the management's point of view I also think his aerial ability is a reason for playing him wide. While he struggles to win headers against big centre halves, he's got a better chance against usually smaller full backs, so he provides us with an outlet at times. With lack of height still being a problem for us Cresswell's got an important role to play at set pieces. His work rate and fitness is still pretty good and I think managers who like wide midfielders to track back a lot will be happy with Cresswell providing that.

However, the problem remains that his contribution isn't good enough when he doesn't score.

Seriously Bergen, of late, his contribution is next to zero when he doesn't score. I've been a convert to him because of his goals but right now, he's offering nothing in that role.

I played a bit devil's advocate with that post and may personally be even more harsh than you. I think we were foolish to extend his contract and posted a long time ago that I feared his goals would dry up like they did when he was at Stoke. I believe the above shows the management's reasoning though.
