Relevant stats provided for forward momentum of the team in attacking moves. (from club website).

I've awarded assists to Norwood ( Everton), Mousset (Chelsea), Freeman (Coventry), McBurnie ( Bournemouth). The club had only awarded 3 for some reason.

Hard to fathom I know. Sorry it's not posted as a table I intended, can't amend it on 'Preview'.

Make what you will of the stats if you have the patience to study them. I reckon it shows the flow of most of our attacks and where they break down.

It shows me that our top scorer from last season as well as captain has not played enough minutes (I accept that through stupidity he cost himself 270 of these though).

The midfield and the wing backs are not shooting enough (clearly part of the problem is they aren't getting into the right positions).

Midfield and wing back starters have one goal between them in 8 games.

That will have to improve if we are to stay up.

For all the talk about Baldock's end product compared to Enda's, he's got a better cross completion rate...

The selective nature of the stats completely undervalues our 3 centre backs who have clearly been the most effective part of the team.

As stated, the O.P. is about forward movement- our biggest problem area - getting balls and players within sight of goal. Creating assists and scoring goals.

Henderson's saves are not included either for the same reason.

What these stats don't show are details such as Robinson's header v Liverpool which goes down as an 'off target shot/effort'; off target could imply hitting the post, inches wide, or the woeful thing we did see. We also don't see that it was an unchallenged header, kudos for getting into that position though. Compare this to McBurnie's effort which was 'challenged' as it was a cross from the corner, was on target but was blocked in a crowded penalty area. Lies, damn lies and statistics, as they say.

Point taken WWF, but this mad rush of stats that we’ve seen develop over the last few years is often presented as a level of proof about all sorts of stuff in football and in my opinion it is almost always based on selective data sets and biased commentary. EG I would imagine (I don’t have the data) that a comparison between these stats for last season and the ones you give for this season would show a marked decline in the attacking contributions of Bash and JOC. Before you know it someone will be using it to conclude that our wide centre backs are underperforming or have not made the step up to the PL completely ignoring the clear tactical change that CWAK have placed on them, the changed structure of the midfield and the upgrade in the opposition. A bit of fun having a chat about this sort of stuff but all this stuff will never give you the whole story.

My opinion is that Margot Robbie should be on the end of my Hampton more regularly.

Stats don’t bear this out, sadly 😞.

Wouldn't be our biggest problem area if we were leaking goals though would it?

3 Key Passes in 83 minutes is notable, as is the goal.

He has come on when the team were going for goals though.

That's where Maidenhead is coming from I think.

Where I'm coming from is that every individual part of the performance is equally important.

It's pointless looking at one part without looking at the overall picture.

As others have said our centre backs play much further forward than most.

If we were dominating games then the full backs/wing backs would be getting forward a lot more.

As a comparison Stevens and Baldock v the rest of the Premier League full backs is meaningless as every team plays to a different pattern, with different levels of success.

The phrase comparing apples to oranges comes to mind.

Well said in some ways but a bit off-piste.

I would not compare wing backs with full backs at different clubs. I've no axe to grind with the wing backs. Do you think it's aimed at them?

I did compare all our players who play for us to each other- United players with United players, not apples with oranges! I think that's relevant as they are a team, all contributing in forward progression of the football. Some get plenty of playing time, some get little. Some are more effective than others.

I don't want to interpret it for posters though, that's up to them and you.

You can leave the stats alone Maidenhead, they are what they are.

You do something to pass time on a quiet International Break, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

So you don’t understand it either?....😀

I find a lot of data and stats posted on here very hard to read and understand, what the fuck is going on? Can we not revert to easy read data like this please?

I reckon the key is primarily involvement in each game, being there for oppirtunities and then productivity.i.e. results from a percentage of totalvshots, crosses etc.

Obviously goals and assists are the gold standard then Key Passes.

Stats are stats but they can often re-affirm impressions gained watching games live.

For example, the 17 key passes by Norwood should re-assure some doubters.

Baldock has improved his productivity.

Sharp plays quality key passes as well as scores goals.

Fleck's stats confirm his good start to the season.

L.Freeman has produced when given chance.

Probably works out better over a longer period.

Stats are fact based as far as possible.

Your fantasies are immeasurable and of no statistical significance.

😁😁😁😝

You are right but maybe a way of interpreting the stats is to show how they bear out the tactical changes and the evident caution.

Even within a more cautious set-up, in fact even more essential, is the need to be more effective when opportunities arise. Certain players can be more clinical than others.
