A point about Duffy (and our AM role)

McBurnie ? I don't really know. He doesn't win regularly in the air or on the ground against athletic Prem CBs. He doesn't hold the ball up too well with his back to goal. Most of that is down to his lightweight physique.
He doesn't run the channels with any pace , nor does he ride tackles like the Moose.
He's got a big bushy beard though.

I think he's in the "sniffer" mould as in Allan Clarke. Trouble is we need a Mick Jones for that to work. Mousse possibly?

In League One James Hanson helped us and in the Championship Gary Madine did the same. I don't think we anticipated that we'd be playing teams who parked the bus against us in the Premiership, but I think we hoped McBurnie would be able to offer a bit of the same. He lacks the presence and strength of the other two though.

I think Wilder will keep assessing if we can afford playing a number 10 in some games, and may even regret now that he didn't try it at Watford. We've got to remember that it would have meant taking off Lundstram, whose run and through ball set up Mousset for his goal against Everton. I think we hoped we could achieve something like that again, without sacrificing the solidity that the socalled flat three has given us.

When people are advocating a number 10/Duffy role behind two strikers with the reasoning that we may create more, I think nobody really disagrees. The relevant question is if we'd be able to cope defensively against opposition teams that offer far more than what we faced last season.

I think people also forget that Duffy could be inconsistent (typical old school flair player) and often made sloppy passes. How many times did we watch him and think ‘he’s not doing it today, get him off’ just before he did an amazing piece of skill and scored or created a goal. I remember posting a couple of times that he’d made me look daft. Do that against PL opponents, when all our players are in positions to support the attack and we’ll get caught and concede.

for me in a perfect world we would have duff man still here as he gave us great options and he would be our main creater - (i appreciate Freeman is here and has done ok so far - without actually playing his favoured Am role yet )

when Duff man killed the bounced he was actually playing upfront with Leon and we changed to a 4-4-2 and had Brooks on the wing ,
think CW could /possibly should look at wingers in the JTW as we dont really have any and could give us a different option for a spark

If we continue to play the flat 3 especially at home then we will never be hammered but we will be relegated.

Playing a flat midfield 3 has given us a decent start , it's a work in progress he did say pre -season they would tinker a bit with the style.It contributed hugely to getting us promotion.Work will be on going to become more productive in the last third.
We have created a good platform to build on
we have been competitive in every game let's see how we evolve from here ,CWAK I'm sure will want more goals but not at the expensive of conceding more.
Norwich now given themselves a hard job conceding too many goals,ok they have injuries but taking there promotion winning style to premiership was always going to be tough.
We have not lost confidence or beleaf after a decent start important to do that early doors.
Will be interesting how Norwich go from here.

There's a lot of dissing of the Tuftyball 3-4-1-2 system on this thread saying it won't work yet we haven't started a Premiership game with it this season.

Thats the formation that got us promoted that allows our centre and wing backs to get forward quicker and enables us to get down the channels of the opposition. The flat midfield three has served to bed us into the start of the season. Yet against Bournemouth, Palace, Leicester when we got back to 1-1 until the Barnes goal and Chelsea away when we pushed Freeman further forward second half we created more problems for the opposition defence when we went to 3-4-1-2.

Teams have already worked out how to play against the flat three. Watford yesterday changed their formation and got 8 men behind the ball pushing us out wide all the time hoping to capitalise on our mistakes which they nearly did. For the first time this season we had more of the possession against a team determined to stifle us yet inexplicably we didn't bring a number 10 on to get the ball forward quicker and created nothing.

We need to win our Home games. Yes there are problems with 3-4-1-2 if we let teams run at us but lets at least try it from the off we may surprise ourselves. It is the formation the majority of the players are most familiar and have been successful with.

Yep the roaming CAM in that formation is integral to maximising the overloads created against teams setting up defensively. Without it we get that performance at Watford. I don't think that necessarily has to be Duffy coming back, but it would be good to see if anyone else we have on our books is capable of playing this role. Luke Freeman has the reputation and the pedigree, why not him?

Pretty much this. I think people are way too ahead of themselves with our start. If we continue playing the way we are now we will not concede many but we certainly won't score many or win many games, and that will mean relegation.

Serious question because I don't know the answer, what is his role and what are his strengths?

He is a striker with a good track record of scoring a variety of different kinds of goals , given the opportunity .

So far with us , those opportunities have been almost nonexistent . The goal he did score was from no better than a half chance but his finishing header was superb .

Given the right service and the right strike partner , I have every confidence that he can play a big part in keeping us in the Premier League .

However , I am not at all confident that these changes will take place anytime soon and , as a result , we will not make the best use of him and he will continue to be unjustly criticised .

Mc Burnie reminds me of a centre forward we had in the 80s namely one Gareth Taylor , similarities were stature, not the biggest, slow United start, good in the air to balls coming across him.Got to trust in CW, he scored a good goal against Leicester had one disallowed mistakenly against Southampton Divers.
Got to give him a chance, probably will end up our leading striker!
Oh and what we need is for the bloody midfielder trio to start scoring, and one or two from the big lads at the back!

I reckon Robbo could be a decent winger , I don't think he's a striker.

Duffy wouldn't play if he was here.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Duffy and he was a huge part of our rise. I would have liked to see him get a chance at this level but he only has himself to blame really despite our preferred system at present.

He had no right to expect another year to be granted to him at his age with no PL experience. He will have been financially rewarded along the way.

His wife's social media comments and now his Dad's petty name calling of Wilder on FB aren't going to help matters really, and you'd hope Duffy would be peed off about. If he isn't then that suggests he's part of the problem.

It's a shame it's gone this way but I don't have much sympathy.
